Chapter 23 Nikki
A yelp leaves my mouth as I jump out of bed, my feet landing hard on the soft carpet. The book I was holding is now behind my back as Bronson smirks then comes further into the room.
I had been sitting on the cozy warm queen-sized bed located in my temporary room, indulged in one of my favorite romance books. I’ve never been one for romance but the current one I have held tightly against my back at the moment, is loaded with dirty deeds and naughty scenes.
Which is exactly why when Bronson’s massive fist knocked on my partially open door, I nearly fell out of my skin.
“Reading something interesting?” He asks smirking even brighter. Such a dick.
“Not really, just trying to not kill myself while I stare at the gray walls inside my dungeon.” This time his face falls from its small victorious smile.
“I never thought you would look at it like that.” He states sadly, his monotone voice lower than normal.
“Bronson relax, I was kidding. I guess you’ll come accustomed to my sarcastic sense of humor.” I laugh. The truth is it’s been amazing staying here today. A normal day for me is scoping out potential businesses to do my work in, today it felt nice to simply relax by a pool and read a good book beside a fireplace.
“So, I take it you had a good day?”
“I did, thank you.”
“Good, now get dressed.” My hands come forward bringing the book along with my shocked expression. Is he kicking me out?
“What?”
“I want to take you shopping. It’s something you need and something you deserve.”
“What the hell are you talking about, were you not here the other night when you offended me the first time? I don’t need you to take me shopping.”
“Why is there always a fight with you?” He asks but I don’t answer, simply cross my arms at my chest. Bronson blows out a heated breath then stands straight and gives me a genuine smile. “Nicole, I want to take you shopping because like it or not you will need clothing in order to stay here. I know you did not bring much and please believe me when I explain that I am not trying to offend you, I just want to make sure that you have everything you will need to succeed.”
I don’t know what it is about Bronson but hearing him speak to me this way, listening as he speaks in a softer volume than his usual brute strength hardheaded tone causes me to feel relief.
“Fine, but please do not get much, and I am not going to one of those disgusting pathetic boutiques where dresses cost more than cars.” I hear him chuckle and I pause, nearly falling to my feet as I watch a smile grace his face.
The man would be so much better looking if he would just smile more.
“Deal. Now, get your shoes, let’s go.”
“Now?” I ask as he turns and leaves the room.
“Now.” He turns back and gives me another sensual smile. “Unless you have more important material to read.”
For the first time in my life, I blush.
Three hours later we wind up in a shopping mall, something I don’t think Bronson has been in for a while. It took some negotiating on both parts to get here. He wanted something more private, something more secluded. I took that as something more expensive. I fought him tooth and nail and finally settled on a shopping mall that had both types of clothing we were looking for.
“Nicole, stop looking at the price tags.” Rolling my eyes, I grab the slacks I was currently looking at, the one’s that are way too expensive for such thin material and turn around glaring up at the sex god.
“You know, you could have waited in the car, right?” I smirk then walk past him. I was surprised when he was the one that followed me inside. I thought for sure Rand or another one of the security goons would have been the one to follow me around. I was both pleasantly surprised and horrified that Bronson would be the one to accompany me.
He mumbles something under his breath, and I turn once again blowing a deep breath. “What?”
“I said you are nothing like other women, are you?” I think long and hard about my answer and give him the same sarcasm from earlier. Walking over towards him, I lean up and whisper in his ear loving when I see goosebumps aligning his flesh.
“Honey, there are no other woman like me.” Smiling, I steady myself and walk over to the dressing room.
