Chapter 91 Nikki

It’s been three days since our amazing holiday. Three days of pure and relinquished bliss. Three days of holding onto a potentially dangerous secret. Bronson still does not know about Anabe, he doesn’t know about my role in coming here in the very beginning and I fear that once he finds out, we will be over.

I know I have no choice. He needs to know, and I have to get him to understand the severity in the situation, but I have no idea where to start. I’m being a coward, I know that, and given that Bronson is the thing I lose when this all blows up in my face, is the reason for my cowardly motives.

My decision today of telling Rand before Bronson is exactly that. Cowardly.

Bronson left for work over an hour ago, and although I still have until Monday before work begins for me, everything could go wrong between then and now. This is the moment I must take advantage of.

Only I have no idea how to do that.

I call Rand praying it does not go to voicemail and breath out a breath of relief when he answers with a gruff.

It’s early only seven in the morning but Bronson had given Rand and Landen time off since they have families, keeping Jim with us while we visited Clara in the hospital and volunteered at the soup kitchen. Bronson confessed that it was the first time his charity work felt like something more important. He was actually able to see the lives being changed right before him. I was both surprised and excited when he went and spoke with some of the ones that had potential for him to hire. I explained to him that everyone falls on rough times, even the Ivy league, degree chasing, stock market men.

As far as Clara went, she was doing well to be expected. I had gone with Bronson to visit her, but I left a little early understanding that he may have wanted some one on one time with his sister. She looked great despite the circumstances, just worn out, but the doctor explained that her illness was much more aggressive this time around. A fact that nearly had all the strong men around us in that tiny room brought to tears.

“Nikki?” Rand mumbles and I snap out of my stupor and answer the poor man.

“It’s time Rand. We need to come clean to Bronson.”

I can hear him bow out an irritated breath. “Nikki, listen, Bronson will find out, but if we spring it on the man–“

“Brody came and visited me on Christmas Eve, and then I had another visitor. It’s bad Rand.”
“Don’t say another word. Are you alone right now?” I knew I was, but his clear panic had me looking around the room Bronson vacated not an hour before.

“Yes.”

“I’m going to give you an address. Meet me there in an hour.” I nod my head but then shake it when it dawns on me that he cannot see me.

“Okay.” Rand rattles off the address and I write it down, too worked up to assume my memory would keep it. Never have I been worked up by someone like Anabe, and I know it’s because I no longer hold the cards in my hand. It’s obvious between Brody’s visit and Anabe’s, that Mick has something else planned. Something I’m not supposed to know about or be a part of.

Ten minutes later, I am walking out of the penthouse, my phone clutched tightly in my grip as it alerts me of my directions. I hop inside a cab and allow it to drive me to the address Rand gave me. I’m surprised when it stops and I see not only Rand standing outside an older home, but who I assume, is his wife.

Throwing a few bills at the driver, I step out and walk up the few steps to their home, extending my hand out when the woman smiles brightly at me. Rand’s wife is beautiful. Her dark red hair flows naturally as her deep green eyes light up as she pushes my hand away and comes in for a bear hug. I can hear Rand chuckling behind me, then watch as she steps into his embrace when she releases me from her hug.

Polar opposites really do attract it seems.

“Nikki, this is Molly. Molly, Nikki. She’s the one I spoke to you about.” He states as he turns and walks into the house. I don’t wait for an invitation before walking directly behind him noticing Molly doing the same.
