Chapter 29 Nikki
San Francisco is beautiful.
My feet lead me as I look around the small streets of the busy city. New York is the city that never sleeps but I would say this city could easily rival it. I’ve been around the area known as China town and into the small shops meant specifically for tourist looking for a good deal on cotton tee’s and postcards that they can send to their loved ones.
I stop at one when I find something worth buying, something my mother would always bring Brody and I when her and dad returned form their week long trips out of the country, a snow globe.
I’m currently shaking my snow globe when my phone buzzes in my pants pocket. Grabbing it and seeing Mick’s name on the collar ID, I find a small alley way and duck inside answering quickly, hating that I sound out of breath.
“Mick.”
“Nikki, I thought I would call and see how things are going.”
“Good, we’re in San Francisco.”
“And our plan?” He asks dragging out the bored effect of him not caring about my location.
“Going good. Bronson didn’t want me with him today, but I should be with him on the next meeting. I did find some interesting things out about his business.”
“And that would be?”
“Only that it could be easily accessed. He holds meetings all over the country with various businesses. He’s trying to save their business and in doing so, leaving his vulnerable. I could easily get access of his laptop and phone.”
Mick thinks long and hard on my words and eventually peeps back up into the conversation. “I see. Good work Nikki. I need you to continue doing what you are doing, do not let yourself get distracted.” I stand here looking down at my snow globe as he continues speaking as I were his child. No one is around the alley, just the occasional rat finding its way around for lose pieces of trash.
“And Nikki.”
“Yes?”
“I was ale to get your brother a court date, meaning we can now break him out on bail. But in order for that to happen...”
“I need to finish my obligation, I know Mick.” I state grinding my teeth. I hate that he is using my brother as leverage. Hate it even more that he will no doubt brainwash Brody when he does get back out.
“The get it done and keep me informed.” The dial tones comes on before I can take my face from the phone. I stand there with a mix of emotions haunting my every blink then finally end the call.
I walk a few more blocks, attempting to get the gut wrenching feeling of betrayal out of my mind. When Bronson first offed this temporary life with him, I thought we was simply being arrogant, now that I am getting to know him better, I hate what the Bandit’s plan will soon be for him and his hard work.
