Chapter 75 Bronson
I gaze over everyone’s confused faces as I pace back and forth. Never have I called a meeting so abruptly, never have I called a meeting with the entire staff at my whim, but I wanted to show them a different side of myself, the side of myself Bethany sees, no matter my constant negative tone towards her.
“I’m sure you are all wondering why I have summoned you so, but I needed each and everyone of you to hear what I have to say, and a simple email sent out wasn’t going to cut it.” I state then walk over towards the far window, the one Bethany’s desk faces. Everyone’s body turns towards where I am going and the few people in front of the window move quickly out of my way, most likely afraid I am going to throw one of them out of the damn thing.
“I look outside, and I only see a city worth taking, an area that is begging for our business, but I never stopped and thought about what I should be looking at.” I spot Bethany and Jonathan moving a little further towards the center of the room. “The people. I never thought about the people down there.”
“Sir, are you alright?” Jonathan asks.
“Yes Jonathan, and I’m sorry this sounds like I am getting ready to lay you all off, but I want you to know that is not what this is. “I spot a few people breathing in a relieved breath. “It’s quite the opposite actually. I know many of you look at me, and only see what my grandfather created, but I wanted to be more than that, I wanted to be someone you wouldn’t have to hide you family from, someone you would be proud to call your boss, your CEO.”
Jonathan’s eyes light up, and Bethany wipes at her stray tears. I cling the tie in my hand and look down at it, speaking the way Nikki has always told me I could. Like a human being. “So, I want everyone to take the rest of the week off with pay, and when you all come back after the holiday. You will be coming back to a boss that is going to begin to act like one.”
I don’t know exactly what suddenly came over me, could have been the gift given to me by Bethany, or Jonathan’s words from beforehand, but if I look deep down, I know exactly what it is. It’s Nikki. Always has been. The room erupts with laughter, joy and mostly confusion as everyone begins to make phone calls, grabs their items and leaves the office, heading right for their home or plans to meet up with their family.
Once the last person is out, Bethany, who helps put my new tie on, I leave the office, getting into the parked SUV with Rand waiting at the wheel. A knowing smile is placed on his lips and I swear the man can read minds. “Where to sir?”
“Tiffany’s.” The smile grows larger as Rand drives me down towards the most expensive jeweler store in New York. I run inside, grab the item they had on hold for me, and get back into the SUV, sitting back as Rand drives me home.
