Chapter 51 Bronson
Nikki and I walk into the building, and I give a small wave to Gary, the doorman as he greets me a personal hello while eyeing Nikki up and down. I give him a look of warning at which I receive a courteous nod and follow Nikki to the elevator breathing in a fresh breath of air once we get back into my penthouse.
“Sir, I’ll go through the entire floor and report back here.” I nod my head at Rand and watch as Nikki snickers at his authoritative action. Rand’s job is to keep me safe and with that comes the occasional checking of the entire floor before I can even rest my head.
“He’s particular.” She mutters, but I hear her it all the same.
“You could say that.”
“So, where did you find him, Afghanistan?” A chuckle leaves my body because even I don’t exactly know where Rand comes from.
“He was my grandfathers’ driver for years before he passed.” I state then begin slowly walking into the penthouse. I know Rand won’t find anything and I don’t necessarily like where this conversation is going.
“So, it was your grandfather’s company first?”
“Yes.”
“And then he passed it to you?”
“Yes.”
“Hmm….”
I turn to see her arms crossed at chest and her lips puckered out. Damn do I want to kiss this woman. Which brings me back to my duty. I need to tell her about Cassandra.
“What?”
“If you don’t want to talk about it Bronson, you don’t have to. Just tell me to shut the hell up.”
“Would you?” I ask and laugh when she shrugs then shakes her head. How this woman can get me to feel like shit about my past and my family, then move me to laugh, in one moment, is beyond me. “Listen, I wanted to speak to you about something and now that we are finally alone, it’s the perfect time.”
“Is this what you wanted to talk about back in the car?”
“Yes.”
“Is it about us?”
“Yes.”
“Bronson, listen, I know you don’t think I’m ready for anything serious with you, and maybe you’re right, but…. I still want to try.”
“Nikki, listen I–"
“No, Bronson please let me get this out. I’ve thought a lot about us and what that kiss could have led to and you were right to pull away. Maybe it was me trying to escape my past and use you as a pulley, but I know what I want now. I know what I can’t live without.”
“Nikki, you don’t understand.”
She steps up closer to me, placing her soft finger on my lips. If her smile is anything to go by, this is going to end badly. “I do understand Bronson. You didn’t want me hurt, but I won’t be. Not if you and I do this right. And I want to try Bronson because…. because I think I’ve fallen in love with you.”
Before I can move, her lips land softly on mine. I want to relish in the taste of her, in the soft way she moves and the smooth moans that leave her body but instead I pull back further and look into her eyes as her eyes narrow with confusion.
“Bronson what are you….”
“Bronson, honey where are you?” Nikki’s eyes widen and she pushes back from me just as Cassandra comes into view. I straighten up and blow out a deep breath then do what I should have done a long time ago.
“Bronson, what’s going on?”
The two look at each other and I make the introductions. “Cassandra, this is Nikki. Nikki, this is Cassandra, my fiancé.”
