Chapter 94 Nikki
No…. please God no.
“Did you honestly believe that I wouldn’t find out?” He walks past me, and I turn to spot him going into the study. His feet are bare and with the glass surrounding each step in his course, I run over and stop him from moving. My hand is on his chest and my eyes down casted on the floor where I can spot trails of blood.
“Bronson, please, the glass, you need to put something on your feet.”
Pushing my hands off him, I get thrown off balance, landing harshly on the glass covered flooring. I scream out when the glass cuts through the palms of my hand. For a moment, Bronson looks worried, he reaches out and lifts me up, expressing concern when his eyes travel my body and pulls my palms out to observe, but something ticks inside him, a bomb goes off in his mind and he quickly pulls away from me again.
“I want you out of here.”
“Bronson.”
“You lied Nikki. You lied to me about everything.”
“How did–"
“Anabe came and spoke to me. He told me everything, about you and your bandits planning on stealing from me, the plan to rob me. I should have known better than to trust you.” My heart sinks as his breaks in front of me.
Why didn’t I say anything to him before?
“Bronson, please listen to me.” He doesn’t. Instead he walks past me, bumping into my shoulder as he mumbles more incoherent curses. I follow him, not wanting it to end this way. “I know I lied, but you have to believe me that I have been trying to stop whatever they have planned.”
“Everything I’ve done for you. Everything we have been through. I was engaged before you came in here and ruined everything, my life was complete.”
“Bronson, please listen to me.”
He stops just shy of the stairs then whirls around and pins me with a death glare. A smile traces his lips as he titles his head up as if in deep in thought. “Let me guess. You’re sorry? You never meant to hurt me? I’m assuming you are about to tell me how you really are in love with me and how all of this is some kind of huge mistake?”
“Bronson….” He isn’t wrong. Those were the exact words I was readying myself to use. Watching his eyes glare over as he shakes his head only creates more anger and guilt echoing between the two of us. I am sorry, I didn’t want him hurt, and it is all I giant mistake. I just wish I had the words he needed to hear.
“What Nikki? What could you possibly say to me that will fix all of this?” Nothing. There is nothing I can say. I remain silent as he comes up to me, stopping just before my face. I feel his breathing, I can sense his dread and anger. “I let you in. I let you inside my home, inside my life, I fell in love with you, and the only thing you gave back to me, were lies.”
“Bronson, I’m not with them anymore. Rand and I–"
“No. No more lies.” He shouts, causing me to step back. A single tear falls from my cheek as I listen to him go on and on, hurting me with every word that leaves his mouth. “I gave you everything, I gave you my heart and your stomped on it. You were scheming all this time. You never cared for me. I let you in my home, when everyone around me told me what a bad idea it was. They were all right about you, Cassandra was right about you, and you know what?” He leans in close, close enough for me to touch. “You parents would be disappointed in the person you turned out to be.”
Bronson walks up the stairs and slams his bedroom door. My heart shatters as it beats faster and faster, my breathing coming in quick spurts as I collapse to the ground. I’ve never felt such pain in my life. I hurt Bronson, destroyed him, and every word he threw at me was the truth.
I’m sorry mom and dad.
Standing up, I take one more glance at the stairs, then turn and walk out of the penthouse, out of Bronson Fortworth’s life forever.
