Chapter 62 Nikki

We talk for minutes more, only stopping when more and more people come into the isle. Eventually our conversation leads us to the line, where we check out our books giggling when the woman behind the counter winks at our choices. Afterwards, we head to the local café, not a block away from the library, and grab a seat with a coffee in one hand and our newest books in the other.
“So, where did you grow up?” Clara asks while she takes a sip from her mug. The coffee shop is one that is meant to have a cheesy theme. This one’s theme is futuristic and so far, they have missed the marker tremendously. Clara is currently sipping form a mug that has a Star Wars logo on it.
“Kind of everywhere. I moved around a lot as a kid, but my brother and I settled here in New York a little over a year ago.” It’s not exactly a lie, but the last thing I want to do is scare Clara away by proving just how messed up my past and present are. “What about you?”
“Right here. I grew up in New York but always loved visiting other states, other countries. My dream is to one day be able to travel to every speck of this planet.”
“Wow that’s–" I stop just in time to spot Landen walking over towards me with a scowl written across his person. His chest is heaving and his face red as if he has been running for hours straight. I stand, knowing damn well he is here to ruin everything I’ve accomplished in the last hour.
“Miss Myers, we have been looking everywhere for you. Please, come with me, now.”
I look back towards Clara, who is giving Landen a strange look, but then she turns to me and plants on a giant smile. “Wow, you’ve got high security clearance or something?”
“I guess so.” I state, then give Landen an evil eye. He shrugs and gives me a pitiful look. I know he cannot control what Bronson says or does, but I still plan on giving him a great deal of my mind before aiming the sucker at Bronson.
“Hate to eat and run like this, but apparently it looks as though I have been beckoned.” It’s a joke but it’s also true. Bronson says he understands my distrust for him, yet he pushes and pulls me each and every time he feels it necessary. I’m not going to allow him to make me his personal yoyo.
“It’s alright. I should get going as well. I have somewhere I have to be.” Clara extends her hand out and I shake it. We exchange numbers and I leave with a very relieved Landen, wondering if I have just made a new friend.
