Chapter 37 Bronson
A chuckle leaves me body and instead of speaking, I walk right out of the elevator behind her listening as she rambles on and on about getting the deal of a lifetime and how amazing she is without me. How I should bring her along to every one of my meetings. By the time we make it to the car, she’s still speaking, only now it’s to Rand and Landen as they drive us towards the diner reservations I had them make once the deal was set.
“So, I guess you should be giving me some kind of commission check then?” I turn towards her, enamored with her upbeat personality. I don’t know much about Nikki’s past, but her sarcastic spirit, her fun personality, drive her to be optimistic. Something others in her shoes, certainty wouldn’t be.
“Well, I suppose the dinner I’m taking you to at Dior isn’t much of a commission?”
“Dior?”
“It’s an elite restaurant, only open two days a week for a few hours. People pay top dollar to simply get in. Although the waiting list is over a year long, I was able to get us in for tonight.” I look from her to the front of the SUV feeling confident. It isn’t until I hear her laughing, do I turn and realize her humor is targeted at me.
“Are you kidding me? Have you not met me yet? Do I really look like the kind of person that wants to eat at some pompous place like that? Let me guess, their menu starts at about a hundred dollars a plate for a simple salad too small to actually get full from?”
My lips quirk up at being spoken to this way. It’s not often women can make me not only smile, but nearly fall over with laughter. Nicole’s fiery spirit gives me something to look forward to every hour of the day.
“Well, where exactly did you have in mind to celebrate your extraordinary selling skills?” This time it’s Nikki who turns towards me, a look of humor dancing around her soft features.
Christ, she’s beautiful.
“Let’s just go pick one.”
“Pardon?”
“Bronson it’s a beautiful city. Let’s walk around and once we find a place we like; we’ll stop and eat there.”
“Sir, that’s not something I can condone.” Rand speaks from the driver’s seat. I hear Nikki scoff, but I pay her no mind, keeping my eyes trained on Rand’s in the rearview mirror.
“It’s fine Rand, drop us off here, we’ll walk back.”
A large smile is present on Nikki’s face and I give her a nod in return. I don’t know what it is about this woman that is making me flip every decision, every instinct I have, but being around Nikki makes me feel alive, the same way I do when I have completed a great deal. She’s quickly beginning to become my new drug, my addiction, and that may not be a good thing.
My phone, placed in between Nikki and myself, begins ringing. I look down and notice Cassandra is calling me, the picture she placed on as her background is the Victoria’s secret cover, she did months back. I grab it instantly looking from it to Nikki’s face of shock and horror. Shit, she must have seen the picture and name.
What must she be thinking?
Is she angry that I have someone in my life?
Do I want her to be?
Without thinking, I silence my phone without answering, place it in my pocket and look out the window as Rand pulls over. Maybe going somewhere alone and secluded with Nikki, isn’t the best idea.
