Chapter 16 The Alliance from the Kids
Alex's Perspective:
"We look so much alike; we can totally switch places when we need to. It'll help move things along. And you, you gotta be proactive with the treatment!" Lucas said, all excited.
"Got it!" I nodded, determined. "As long as we can become a family, I'll do whatever it takes!"
This was awesome! I could get a new mom, and I wouldn't have to be separated from them. I could feel the warmth and happiness of family every day.
"So, how about tomorrow? Bring your mom to your house and tell her your friend is sick and needs her help. Your mom is so kind. She'll definitely agree!" Lucas continued, "Otherwise, you'll have to wait a long time for your dad."
That made sense to me, so I nodded.
"OK. Tomorrow, we'll follow your plan!"
I couldn't contain my excitement at the thought of Seraphina becoming my new mom.
"Alright, but be careful not to blow our cover," Lucas warned.
"Don't worry! I won't mess it up!"
After I reassured Lucas several times, he finally hung up.
I was thrilled that I wouldn't have to leave. Filled with excitement, I turned to go back and watch TV with Saki, only to find her standing there with her hands on her hips, looking like she'd discovered a big secret.
"Lucas, you've been acting weird lately. Are you hiding something from me?"
Her question made me feel a bit guilty.
Lucas was so smart, so she must be smart, too. What if she found out and ruined our plan?
I got scared and lowered my head, avoiding her eyes.
"Are you?" Saki was even more convinced I was hiding something and got right in my face.
I couldn't take her intense gaze anymore and was about to tell her the truth when she angrily said, "Are you sneaking snacks behind my back while I'm asleep?"
"What?" I was stunned for a second, then let out a long sigh of relief.
Then I replied, "No." Seeing that all she could think about was food, I felt both amused and helpless. I pulled her toward the living room. "How could I eat snacks? Go watch TV, and I'll buy you ice cream tomorrow."
Saki said, "You better keep your word."
Luckily, she didn't think too much about it and was easily fooled.
"Yeah, I won't lie to you." I patted my chest, relieved.
She really scared me.
The Next Day
Lucas's Perspective:
After talking to Alex yesterday, my biggest worry was resolved. This morning, lying in the soft bed felt different.
I lazily stayed in bed, enjoying the comfort.
"Sweetie, time to get up." Silas knocked on the door and came in, kissing me on the forehead.
"Breakfast is ready. You won't grow tall if you skip breakfast," Silas said, lifting me out of bed.
"With a dad as tall as you, I'm sure I'll grow tall too." I hugged Silas's neck and nuzzled his cheek. "This bed is so comfy. I want to sleep a bit more. Dad, can you stay with me?"
I used to sleep with Mom and Saki, but then I decided I was a big boy and stopped. If Silas became my dad, I could ask him to sleep with me every day. Just imagining that made me feel happy and excited.
"Cecilia actually picked out this bed. I didn't expect you to like it so much." Silas seemed to enjoy my affection, radiating a fatherly glow, completely losing his Alpha king's sternness.
But hearing that Cecilia chose the bed made me lose interest in staying in bed.
"Well, I suddenly find it not so comfy." I pouted.
"What's wrong?" Silas laughed at my sudden change of mood and pinched my nose. "You were fine just a moment ago. Why the sudden change?"
"Dad." I looked at Silas, testing the waters. "Do you really like Cecilia? Will you forgive her?"
Alex and I just wanted to match Mom with Silas. If he really liked Cecilia, that would hurt Mom, and I couldn't let that happen!
I must protect Mom and not let her get hurt!
"Why do you ask?" Silas was surprised by my question and paused before saying, "Are you worried Cecilia will bully you again?"
"I'm not afraid of her with you around!" I looked at Silas pitifully. "I just don't like her."
I lowered my head, feeling wronged.
"I don't want her to be my mom. But if you really like her, I can tolerate it. But if you don't, can you find me a new mom, like..."
I was about to suggest to my mom when I saw Silas's serious expression and stopped.
I thought he was upset by what I said and didn't dare continue.
But then he smiled, patted my head, and said, "Alright, I will seriously consider your suggestion. Let me handle this. Let's go wash up and have breakfast first, OK?"
"OK." I nodded obediently, not daring to say more.
Silas carried me downstairs to wash up and then took me to the dining room for breakfast. He didn't say a word, seemingly deep in thought.
After breakfast, he let me play in the yard while he sat motionless on a bench under a tree.
After a long while, he seemed to make a big decision, pulled out his phone, and called Cecilia.
