Chapter 47 She Is My Fiancée
Seraphina's Perspective:
So, right after I dropped that bomb, the crowd went nuts, whispering and gossiping about April as she stormed off.
April's face was a mess of discomposure, totally busted for her plagiarism. She shot a look at Eden, who was turning all shades of red, and let out this icy laugh, "Seriously? Can't beat me fair and square, so you go for slander?"
I smirked at her, "Oh, we can check that real quick."
She yelled back, "Yeah, let's check! Fine, it's not my original work, but I was just quoting. At least I study the top docs' journals, unlike you! You just steal other people's work!
"This journal was published by some anonymous top doc! The author isn't Stella!"
The docs in the room started throwing shade at me.
One of them sneered, "Stealing someone else's work, that's a new low."
Another chimed in, "Right? I almost bought it."
Eden was fuming, "Stella, get off the stage! Stop making a fool of yourself!"
Then Edgar, who'd been quiet this whole time, finally spoke up, "I think we should let Stella finish. Maybe she's got more to say!"
He didn't show much emotion, but I knew he had my back.
With Edgar stepping in, the crowd hushed up.
I shot Edgar a grateful smile, grabbed the mic, and started, "In the world of medicine, treating psychological disorders mainly involves psychodynamic therapy, behavioral therapy, humanistic therapy, cognitive therapy, and pharmacotherapy.
"Psychodynamic therapy comes from psychoanalysis, invented by Viennese neurologist Oliver Spencer."
As I kept talking, the docs went from hostile to surprised, and then to straight-up impressed.
Meanwhile, April and her crew were looking more and more sour.
"To sum it up, I'll use these treatment methods, mix in some meds, and give positive emotional feedback through the right interventions to get the healing going."
When I finished, the room was dead silent.
The tension was thick until someone started clapping, and then the applause just blew up.
"Awesome! Really awesome!" Edgar beamed. "With a pro like Stella, my granddaughter's gonna get better! Stella! I'm counting on you to help my granddaughter!"
"Don't worry, Edgar, I'll do everything I can to get her back to health!" I promised.
"Good!" Edgar nodded firmly, "I trust you!"
"No matter how fancy you talk, it just shows you read that anonymous doc's journal too! It doesn't prove you wrote it. What makes you think you're better than me?" April, always so full of herself, just couldn't handle that I had outdone her.
She kept going, "You're just some regular doc with no status or connections. How could you possibly beat me?"
Seeing her still hung up on it, I smirked. Just as I was about to clap back, an unexpected voice cut through the tension. "Does one need status and connections to be a good doctor? What about those who bust their butts studying medicine day and night?"
Everyone turned to look at the door.
Silas stood there, taking in the whole scene.
After almost a month, Silas hadn't changed a bit.
I bit my lip.
April, seeing Silas, quickly fixed her makeup, dropping her aggressive act and turning all shy and bashful.
Another one falling for Silas. Classic.
I couldn't help but chuckle to myself.
Is every woman in the world into Silas or what?
"I didn't know Hope Hospital cared more about background than skills! Even the director and a bunch of docs ganging up on one small doc! Don't you all have better things to do?" Silas strolled in, his long legs making him look all elegant and noble.
The werewolves in the room dropped their heads, too scared to face the Alpha King.
"That's not it," Eden stammered, sweating bullets, "Silas, there's a misunderstanding."
"I only believe what I see, not your so-called misunderstandings." Silas shot Eden a look.
Just one look and Eden went pale, shaking like a leaf, unable to speak.
"Respected Silas, it's not what you think." Barry finally found the guts to speak, trembling, "We weren't targeting her.
"It's just that she pretended to be your fiancée and tricked us, and now she's claiming someone else's work as her own! We think she's got no integrity and isn't fit for big responsibilities, so we were a bit harsh on her."
He was the one who mistook me for Silas's fiancée, so how could it be pretending?
Besides, a contractual fiancée is still a fiancée, right? He just didn't get it.
I was about to explain when Silas suddenly looked at me and gave me a knowing smile.
I was floored.
"The woman you claim lacks integrity is my fiancée," Silas said calmly.
