Chapter 52 The Harsh Mother and Daughter

Saki's POV:

"Yo, Lucas." I wanted to ask why that chick was giving me the stink eye, but when I turned around, Lucas had somehow snagged a pair of oversized sunglasses and slapped them on.

"Lucas, those shades are huge, man. They're practically eating your face." I chuckled.

Lucas put a finger to his lips and shot a sneaky glance at the door. "Shh. Just roll with it."

I had no clue what Lucas was scheming, but it felt like we were in some secret agent flick. Pretty rad.

"I had an appointment with your manager, so clear everyone else out!" The woman at the door stormed in, looking like she was ready to throw down.

I'd never seen anyone so scary before, and I instinctively took a step back.

"Do you know how crucial the ball is to me? You better not screw it up! And," she added, giving us a nasty look, "this isn't a shelter for the blind. How dare you let just anyone in here!"

The store clerk looked like they were about to pee their pants, not knowing how to kick us out, especially with Seraphina still in the changing room. They were in a real pickle.

"Who you calling blind?" Even though I was a bit freaked out, I found the guts to snap back when she called Lucas blind.

"Lucas ain't blind! He's got perfect vision!" I said, reaching to yank off Lucas's sunglasses. "Lucas, show her you're not blind."

But Lucas swatted my hand away and turned his back on me.

I was baffled. Why was he so dead set on wearing those shades, even when someone called him blind? Did he really dig those dark glasses that much?

"I don't care if you're blind or just plain dumb!" the woman sneered again, then barked at the clerk, "What are you standing around for? Get them out of here!"

"Exactly!" Another older woman crossed her arms and glared at the clerk. "Do you know how much cash we drop here every year? You can't afford to tick us off."

"Cecilia, Ophelia, I'm really sorry. This is our bad," the clerk said, bowing like they were about to kiss the floor. "But these kids are too young. If they run off and get lost, it'd be a disaster. Their mom's changing clothes and will be out soon.

"As soon as she's out, I'll have them leave, okay?"

"Are you kidding me?" Cecilia exploded, jabbing the clerk's chest with her long, manicured nails, her face twisted with rage. "What do I care if these brats get lost? If they don't scram now, you're definitely losing your job!"

The clerk just stood there, taking the abuse, head down.

I couldn't stand seeing the nice clerk get trashed because of us. After a quick think, I looked up at Cecilia and said, "Hey, could you chill out a bit? You look kinda familiar, like a celeb or something."

Cecilia's angry face softened a bit. She touched her cheek, clearly flattered. "You little charmer. But don't think I'll let you stay just 'cause you buttered me up."

"No, seriously!" I shook my head, giving her my best puppy-dog eyes. "You really look like a movie star!"

Cecilia looked even more pleased.

"Of course, my baby girl is a big deal," Ophelia chimed in, fixing Cecilia's hair. "She's the fiancée of the Alpha King. It's no wonder you think she looks like a star. But she is even more dazzling than a star!"

"So, since you think I look like a famous movie star, who do I look like?" Cecilia asked, looking down at me.

I glanced at Lucas and the clerk, then answered seriously, "Like Belle. You not only look like her recent character but also like her in real life."

The clerk was stunned for a moment, then burst out laughing but quickly covered her mouth, afraid of pissing off Cecilia, and cautiously watched her reaction.

Belle was the villain in a TV show I liked recently. Not only that, but her real-life reputation was trash, with a messy personal life. She was infamous, to say the least.

Apparently, Cecilia knew who she was, too. Her previously pleased expression immediately darkened.

Ophelia, clueless, was puzzled by Cecilia's sudden mood swing.

"You little brat!" Cecilia grabbed my arm viciously, her face twisted with rage like she wanted to eat me alive.

"How dare you compare me to that disgraceful person! Do you have a death wish?" She shouted.

"You're even worse than her, using your status to bully people!" I shouted back, trying to be brave despite my fear.

"You brat!" Cecilia was completely enraged by my words and raised her hand to hit me.

Lucas, who had been quiet, immediately stepped in front of me and took the slap for me.

From my angle, I could clearly see Lucas falling to the ground as if he had been hit before the slap even landed.

Lucas sat on the ground, covering his face, and started bawling loudly.
