Chapter 23 Getting Engaged

Seraphina's Perspective:

After getting Saki and Lucas settled, I couldn't wait to head to the hospital. Hope Hospital, one of the best around, was a place where a lot of talented folks aimed to work. When I first applied, I was super nervous, thinking there were too many top-notch people and I might not make the cut. Looks like all that worrying was for nothing! Hard work really does pay off!

I walked into the hospital and made my way to the HR department, just like they told me over the phone. But when I got there, I saw Silas standing at the door. He wasn't doing anything, just standing there, but man, his presence was hard to miss. His black tailored suit looked like a king's armor, giving off this cold, distant vibe mixed with a wild, wolf-like intensity.

What was he doing here? This couldn't be a coincidence. Was he here to settle the score from yesterday? The thought crossed my mind that maybe my acceptance was just a trap he set to lure me out. Without thinking too much, I turned to leave. As much as I wanted this job, staying alive was way more important.

I was walking so fast that I almost crashed into a cleaning cart in the corner. Luckily, someone grabbed me just in time, and I ended up in a broad, warm embrace. Before I could even process what was happening, the scent of freesia hit me. I knew right away it was Silas. Instinctively, I tried to push him away, but he held on tight, his strong arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer.

"Why are you running? Think I'd kill you?" Silas's voice came from above, laced with disdain and annoyance.

"Let go!" I struggled, my face turning red. I expected him to keep holding on, but to my surprise, he actually let go. Though, not without a parting shot—his hand pinched my waist, sending a shiver through me. I stepped back, glaring at his smirking face.

"What are you doing here? Were you waiting for me?" I asked, trying to sound accusatory.

"Yeah, I was waiting for you," Silas admitted quickly, catching me off guard. This arrogant Alpha actually admitted to waiting for me. It had to be premeditated. But he didn't have any other agenda.

I looked him up and down, mimicking his haughty demeanor. "Why? Did you fall for me or something?" I sneered, hoping to provoke him. To my surprise, he didn't get angry. Instead, he chuckled softly.

"You're right," he said, taking a step toward me. His response threw me off, and I stumbled back until I hit the wall. I wanted to run, but Silas trapped me between him and the wall.

"I did fall for you," he said, playing with a strand of my hair. His casual demeanor carried a lazy yet deadly charm. "That's why I came to ask you to be my fiancée. Will you?"

'He's crazy! Absolutely crazy!' I was shocked. It must have been my punch yesterday that knocked some sense out of him. I must have a death wish. I started looking around for an escape route.

Silas seemed to sense my intention and gently held my shoulder. His grip wasn't strong, but it still made me shiver. "I know this is sudden, but I really need your help. If you pretend to be my fiancée, not only will you get this job, but you'll also have access to many other privileges," he said in a tone softer than I'd ever heard from him.

I wasn't swayed by his words, but his last sentence made me reconsider. Finding Charles with my current status was difficult. If I became his Luna, it would be much easier. For Charles, I didn't care what I had to face or what I had to give up.

"Fine, I agree. But remember, this is just a mutually beneficial arrangement. Don't fall in love with me!" I said, pulling out my phone. "Give me your number so we can stay in touch."

"Don't worry, I'm not interested in women like you," Silas said, taking my phone and exchanging numbers with me.

"Really?" I sneered, glancing pointedly at his lower body. He remembered his previous lapses and looked a bit uncomfortable. But he quickly regained his composure and said, "Since we're now engaged, shouldn't you introduce me to your kids so I can get to know them?"

The mention of my kids made me instantly wary. I looked at him with suspicion and caution.
