Chapter 25 Uncovering the Truth

Seraphina's Perspective:

It had to be Lucas's voice, no doubt about it. Or could it be that there really were people in this world who look and sound exactly alike? Thinking this, I leaned closer to the phone to make sure.

Maybe I was too eager, because when Silas moved the phone away from his ear, I ended up kissing his cheek.

The driver in front, being very considerate, slowly raised the partition between the front and back seats. This made me even more embarrassed. I quickly pulled back, my cheeks burning as if they were on fire.

I lowered my head in embarrassment, pressing my lips together. The warmth from his cheek still lingered on my lips, making me feel even hotter.

Would this arrogant man, Silas, think I did it on purpose? I glanced at him cautiously. He calmly put down the phone, his expression as natural as if nothing had happened.

"Is your son's name Lucas?" he asked.

Seeing him so calm made me feel even more embarrassed. His demeanor made me feel like some innocent schoolgirl.

"Yes!" I tried to act normal, but I couldn't hide my awkwardness.

However, his question reminded me of the main point. If the person on the other end of the call was really Silas's son, then his voice was eerily similar to Lucas's.

"Forgive my boldness, but where is his father?" Silas asked, his gaze unintentionally falling on my lips.

"He's dead." I was so full of unanswered questions that I blurted out a lie.

"Dead?" Silas raised an eyebrow, looking a bit uncomfortable. "Sorry, I didn't mean to pry."

"It's fine. I just remembered I have something to take care of. I can't go see your son now. I need to go back!" Thinking about Lucas and Saki waiting at home, anxiety and worry wrapped around my heart like a spider's web, making it hard to breathe.

"That's not a problem, but we're almost at my house. Are you sure you don't want to take a quick look before heading back?" Silas seemed a bit displeased.

I replied, "No, besides my son, I also have a daughter. The nanny leaves at 7 PM, and I can't leave the two kids alone at home."

"Okay!" Silas nodded and told the driver to turn around.

"You're always welcome to bring your children to my house. I'm sure our kids will get along well," Silas said, giving me a distant yet gentlemanly smile.

His understanding put my mind at ease. Although he usually acted domineering and rude, when it came to the kids, he wasn't so bad.

Thinking about how he had lost control out of concern for his child a few times before, maybe he wasn't as terrible as I thought. At the very least, he was a somewhat competent father.

Lucas's Perspective:

When I heard Mom calling me, I panicked and hung up the phone. Scared, I immediately thought of Alex and quickly called him.

"It's over. Mom just called me. I think she found out about our plan!" As soon as the call connected, I blurted out in a panic. "If Mom finds out I tricked her, she'll definitely spank me! And worse, our matchmaking plan will fail!"

"Why would your mom—no, my mom—call you? Right now, you're me!" Compared to my panic, Alex was much calmer, even a bit exasperated.

Hearing this, I finally realized and laughed in relief. "You're right. I only made one sound. She'll just think it sounded similar. When she gets home and sees you, she won't suspect anything."

"Exactly, Lucas. Seeing how confident you were at the hotel, I thought you weren't scared at all," Alex teased me over the phone. "Looks like you're also afraid of getting spanked by your parents!"

"Spanked?" I repeated the word Alex used, and he suddenly went silent. I couldn't help but burst into laughter.

The elegant and refined Alex would never say something so crude. But now, facing an Alex who was just as crude as me, I felt really happy.

"You tease me, but aren't you also afraid of getting spanked by your dad? Let's not laugh at each other."

"However, I find Dad's silent treatment really scary. Your mom, on the other hand, is so gentle and kind. She's the most patient person with kids I've ever met," Alex said, his tone becoming more cheerful when he mentioned my mom.

"Of course." Hearing him praise my mom made me proud. "My mom is beautiful and gentle. She's more than a match for your dad. He should be thrilled."

"Yes, more than a match!" Alex agreed enthusiastically. "I think so too! If my new mom is your mom, both Dad and I would be very happy!"

His sincerity made me a bit embarrassed, so I awkwardly changed the subject. "By the way, how have you been these days?"

"Great! I really like Mom and Saki. They make me feel so at home! We even planned a trip to the amusement park together." Talking about my mom, Alex's voice was full of excitement and happiness.

"Don't get too excited. Given the situation, we should switch back as soon as possible. Besides, I've been away for so long, I miss home," Saying this, I felt like crying.

No matter how great it was here or how impressive Alex's dad was, I still missed being with my mom.

Hearing this, Alex was silent for a few seconds before slowly saying, "Okay, I'll do whatever you say."

I could hear the disappointment and reluctance in his voice, and I quickly tried to comfort him, "Don't be sad. Once I'm back, we'll work together to match up our parents. We'll be a happy family living together soon!"

"Which home are you going back to? Who are you matching up?" Cecilia's voice suddenly came from above, which made me startled.

Oh no! I was so focused on comforting Alex that I didn't notice when Cecilia arrived.

My heart pounded as I stiffly turned my head like a puppet. Cecilia was standing behind me, most of her body hidden in the shadows, her tear-streaked face glaring at me menacingly.
