Chapter 43 Ending Our Partnership
Seraphina's Perspective:
Rolling up to Silas's front door, I felt like a fish outta water staring at that fancy mansion.
After what felt like forever, I finally hit the doorbell. Not long after, a butler in a tailcoat showed up, looking all proper and stuff.
"Hey, I'm..." I started, but he cut me off.
"Stella, right? Here to see Silas?"
"Wait, you know my name?" I was kinda shocked.
"You're Silas's fiancée. Of course, I know you. Silas is home today. Come on in." He said, swinging open the massive door.
"Thanks." I mumbled, stepping into the castle-like estate.
The butler led me through a maze of landscapes, fountains, pools, gardens, and these two rows of fierce wolf statues. I couldn't help but think, dang, this place is huge; we walked forever and still weren't there.
Just when my legs were about to give out, we finally reached Silas's study.
I stood on the plush carpet and locked eyes with the man across from me.
"Hey, Silas." I greeted.
Silas was lounging in a fancy leather armchair, legs crossed, coffee in one hand, book in the other.
He looked up at my greeting, leaned back, and with a casual yet commanding vibe, flashed an official smile. "We meet again, Stella."
His high-and-mighty attitude made my gratitude take a nosedive.
"I said I'd come by to thank you in person, so here I am, thanking you for saving my kid!" I said, bowing deeply.
"This is the first time someone's thanked me empty-handed." Silas teased.
Oh crap. Embarrassment hit me like a truck.
I was so caught up in digging into that woman's background, I totally forgot to bring a gift.
"My cheap gift, you probably wouldn't like it anyway." I tried to play it cool, giving him an awkward smile.
"How do you know I wouldn't like it? After all..." Silas's eyes got all mischievous as he looked me up and down. "Our relationship isn't exactly ordinary."
His blatant stare made my cheeks burn.
Men, they were all the same. He had a lover, holding her tight in the car that day, and now he was flirting with me.
What did he take us women for?
Thinking of this, I couldn't help but get a bit ticked off.
"Silas, I think we need to redefine our relationship. Before, I didn't know you already had someone you liked, so I agreed to work with you." I said seriously, my expression cold. "But now that I know, I think our cooperation should end here!"
I wasn't about to fight another woman for a man, even if that man was the Alpha King everyone's drooling over.
Silas went quiet when I said that, giving me a look that made my stomach do flips.
Just as I was wondering if I'd messed up, Silas stood up and started walking towards me, his dominant vibe making me step back.
I could tell he was pissed.
Pissed about what? Did I just dump him and bruise his ego?
Made sense. As the Alpha King, he's used to everyone bowing down to him. One look from him could shut anyone up.
And here I was, just an ordinary werewolf, daring to reject him. Of course, his pride would take a hit.
Thinking of this, I looked up and gave an awkward smile. "Sorry if I hurt your feelings, but I meant well.
"I can see that lady suits you, and you like her a lot. I don't know which noble family she's from, but it wouldn't be good if she misunderstood our relationship.
"So to avoid any drama, let's just pretend nothing happened. With that lady, you don't need me as a fake fiancée, right?"
I thought my explanation would patch things up, but his face just got darker.
I could even feel the wolf inside him glaring at me, like it was ready to break free and tear me apart.
Even that didn't work? Should I say more?
"And..." Just as I started to speak, Silas bent down, his chiseled face almost touching mine.
My breath hitched, and I got super nervous.
"Are you dissatisfied with me?" Silas asked, his voice hoarse and sexy, reminding me of a rose bush hiding a venomous snake — beautiful yet dangerous.
I couldn't speak. My mouth opened and closed, but no words came out.
"Is that so?" He moved even closer.
"No." I stammered, trying to step back but lost my balance and twisted my ankle.
I yelped and fell backward.
Silas quickly grabbed my waist and pulled me back, making me fall into his arms.
My face was against his warm chest, and I could hear his heartbeat. Surrounded by the scent of freesia, my cheeks burned.
But for some reason, his embrace felt strangely familiar, though I couldn't recall where I'd felt it before.
Next second, Silas's teasing voice came through. "Enjoying the hug?"
I felt both embarrassed and angry, pushing him away forcefully. Realizing my loss of composure, I turned to leave in a panic, but then I heard the butler's voice from outside. "Cecilia, you're here."
