Chapter 11 Principal Williams Made Call by Himself
Gavin drove the car and arrived at the old mansion in half an hour.
Master Henry Moore and his three sons and their wives were there already. As soon as they came into the house, Gloria James, the wife of the second son laughed complacently, 'the fourth son and his wife must have been extremely busy so that we must wait for them for so long."
'Gloria, sorry for being late. There was a traffic jam on the way." Nancy smiled pleasantly while responding. She must put it up today for the sake of Monica.
Monica looked Gloria up and down with a cold expression and even didn't say hello to her.
When Gloria kept eye contact with Monica, she felt even a bit intimidated for no reason. She was just a kid, for what should she be afraid of?
Then she sneered at her thinking, 'Is she the child who got lost many years ago? She did look after you, Nancy. However, this time you must run a DNA test in case you will get excited again for nothing."
Since her parent's sore spot was hit, Monica frowned, 'Aunt Gloria, your words were uncalled for."
It pained Nancy most to know Monica couldn't be found these years. What Gloria said was nothing short of rubbing it in.
'Gloria." Gavin shook his head slightly to silence her.
Nancy had to swallow it and put on a smile, 'Thank you for your reminder. The police made a DNA comparison to prove Monica is our daughter."
Nancy looked gentle, but her hand holding Monica's was firm with energy, which made Monica feel warm.
'That's better. You shouldn't raise a kid for over 10 years to find out she is someone else's child once again." Gloria continued to sneer to make Nancy look pale.
'Gloria, let's forget what happened before." The third son stopped Gloria coldly out of pity.
Gloria finally kept quiet.
'The food is ready. Let's take seats." Master Henry didn't want to hear more quarreling so he gave them the order to sit down.
While the servants were placing the dishes on the table, the third aunt, Lucy, took a look at Monica gently, 'Monica is just 18 years old this year, isn't she? Are you studying in high school?"
Monica nodded, 'Yes, at Grade 11."
'Grade 11. It will be perfect if you can be transferred to the senior section of Oxford High School, you will study with my son, Steven, at the same grade." Lucy seemed to have no schemes and sounded sincere.
'Oxford High School?" Gloria frowned at what she heard, 'Lucy, what a lunatic idea! Do you think Oxford is open for every random guy? Even its senior section keeps high standards."
'Gloria, you shouldn't talk like that..." Lucy thought it was a terrible thing for Gloria to say so.
'What I said is just a fact, isn't it?" Gloria continued, glancing at Hale, the oldest brother, 'Both Hale and Hilary know very well about it. Although Dad and Principal Williams have been friends for years, he has still kept high requirements for the entrance of our children. Monica grew up in the countryside. It's most unlikely that she would meet the requirements. Hale shouldn't waste time on it."
Her words and tone were as unbearable as the stab of a dagger. Monica's eyes became sullener.
Jeffery and Nancy hadn't said anything before Gloria cut them off from this topic, which was totally unexpected. For a moment, this couple didn't know what to say.
They wanted to give the best to Monica out of guilt, but... they couldn't do anything for her at all.
Master Henry felt even more sorrowful for Monica when he saw her in silence.
He turned to Hale, and frowned, 'Hale, how do you look at it?"
Hale knew his dad well. He must hope Monica studies at Oxford High School for the family's reputation.
But Hilary spoke slowly, 'Dad, what Gloria said is quite reasonable. Monica studied in the countryside before without remarkable achievements. Even if Principal Williams agreed to let her study there, when she can't keep up with their standards, eventually, it is still disgraceful for our whole family, isn't it?"
Although Hilary didn't say a word before, she shared the same opinion with Gloria.
After all, her daughter was aiming to be a star. It would be humiliating if anyone found out she had a cousin from the countryside...
Hale began to reevaluate the case silently when he saw his wife was against it.
Master Henry unconsciously looked at Monica.
Although he was clear that her result at school could be mediocre, she was still his granddaughter. Moreover, she had been engaged with Laurence Hall. How could he just let it go?
The more he was thinking about it, the angrier he became. Eventually, he snapped, 'okay, since you don't want to bother with it, I have to go to the Principal personally to ask him for a favor!"
'Dad!"
'You shouldn't!" Hale and Jon, the second son, uttered simultaneously.
Both of their wives changed their expression slightly, as they never thought Master Henry would go to the Principal by himself just for Monica, a random kid from nowhere. All other children in the family had never gotten such treatment from their grandpa.
Hale was cornered to speak, 'Dad, let me take care of it."
They didn't expect that Hale would agree so both Jeffery and Nancy were showered in happiness immediately.
However, neither Hilary nor Gloria was too enthusiastic about how it turned out.
Monica sighed to herself to see all of them took so much effort because of her.
She didn't need any help at all. Especially when she saw through the intention of two aunties, she even disdained the help from her eldest uncle.
She checked her watch, unsatisfied. Why didn't Principal Williams call by now?
When she was wondering, Gavin's phone rang suddenly.
Monica curled up her lips slightly. After all, Williams kept his promise.
Gavin thought it was a call from the office, and stood up immediately, 'I need to answer this."
