Chapter 14 I Am Still Anne's Brother

Sean was puzzled for a second and then realized immediately that he shouldn't have said it when he saw Monica was coming. He was so embarrassed and changed the topic abruptly, 'Monica is so beautiful. You must be very popular at school."
Anne turned to Monica jealously when she heard what Sean said. She couldn't deny that Monica was indeed pretty. She was a natural beauty, fair face, and had a good body. However, she herself was just plain in comparison...
Jeffery noticed loneliness on her face, pondering for a moment, and then said, with frown forehead, 'Don't talk while eating. No one will mistake you as a mute."
'Yeah." Sean lowered his head after being scolded and then focused on his food.
After a while, Jeffery turned to Anne, 'Anne, after all, you are not their own sister. You should keep a social distance from your brothers. You shouldn't behave like before without scruples.
Anne's face paled for being scolded, and then lowered her head in an injured tone, 'I know... I won't act unscrupulously in future."
Her words pained Sean, 'Dad, even though Anne isn't our own sister, we lived together for such a long time. In my opinion, if only she takes me as her brother, I will always be her brother."
He sounded so serious, which stunned both Jeffery and Nancy for a moment.
Winston couldn't help touching his forehead. This silly brother was silly again.
'Sean..." Anne looked at Sean, deeply touched. Maybe Sean was the only one who still remembered her in this family.
Jeffery was about to say something but was stopped by Nancy who was shaking her head at him. Then she turned to Sean, 'You are right. Anne has lived with us for so long. She is your sister even though not by birth."
'Mom..." Anne was moved into tears in her eyes, which even Winston weakened.
After all, Anne didn't do anything wrong, did she?
She didn't pretend to be Monica before. It happened all because the birth mark behind her ear looked alike.
'Dad, mom, I am full." Monica had no interest in Nancy's issues and was about to leave after a few bites.
'Sean, Winston, I wait for you in the living room. Let me know when you are done." Then she turned to leave immediately after she finished her sentence.
Sean couldn't help looking at Winston, to hint with his eyes, 'how could she be so indifferent."
Winston felt too that Monica was far too calm than a girl at her age of 18. She didn't feel a thing as far as Anne was concerned.
After breakfast was over, Anne started to play around with twin brothers again, as she got support from Sean and Nancy.
They were chatting joyfully and all three walked to the door with school bags on their shoulders.
Usually, Anne took bus by herself to school. Since Sean and Winston came today, she would definitely take a ride with them.
Upon the car arrived, she went in and sat at the back seat with Sean and Winston.
She wanted to see the jealous face on Monica, but Monica even didn't look at them when she got in. Obviously, she didn't care at all Anne was close to the twin brothers.
She spoke deliberately while pondering, 'Monica, why are you so quiet? Did we neglect you?"
She looked aggrieved as if it was Monica's fault that she didn't speak.
'I have nothing to say." Anne considered herself always right.
She had no interest in anything relating to Anne.
Winston thought she was unhappy and tried to rectify the awkward situation, 'Monica, don't take it personally. Sean had special bond with Anne since they were kids. They didn't ignore you on purpose."
'No, we didn't." Sean nodded immediately as he felt he didn't behave properly too. 'But I will be nice to you too. I heard from our parents that you suffered a lot being away from us before."
Originally, Anne wanted to make Monica jealous of herself, but she didn't expect that Sean really showed sympathy for Monica. A trace of reluctance came to her eyes.
Monica didn't turn back but her hands were fitting even more tightly. She said calmly, 'I got it."
Nobody really cared much about her and she didn't know how to respond to Sean too.
But she felt intimate to this innocent brother from bottom of her heart.
Winston got relieved to see Sean make a proper explanation. 'See, Monica isn't a petty person. You two shouldn't imagine stuff."
Anne felt depressed to be regarded as 'imagine stuff".
But thinking of Monica's silence, Anne felt what she did was simply a joke!
Monica was not jealous of her at all. But she envied Monica like hell.
It was quiet in the car. Sean spoke suddenly, 'Monica, mom said you met Gavin and Justine, but you haven't met Clinton, our third elder brother."
Monica nodded immediately, 'No."
Sean got more interested to see she didn't know Clinton yet, 'Clinton is awesome. He is the chairman of the college student union, and he ranked always No. 1 in all tests..."
Sean talked all the way about Clinton so that Monica got a rough picture of him. She felt curious about Clinton already.
