Chapter THIRTY ONE

I still couldn't believe I was pregnant and going to be a mother,I was scared and happy at the same time.
Because I couldn't sleep I kept twisting and turning until the doorknob twisted and Syrus walked in,I knew it was him because as soon as he walked in his scent filled the room stronger than the faint one on the bed coverings. He changed the sheets and pillowcases to silk after he heard me telling Jill how silk protects my hair. She had asked why I had so many silk bonnets and silk scrunchies.
He went straight into the shower,I haven't seen him for the rest of the day . Was he upset about the news of the pregnancy? Will my coming to his room without him calling for me make things worse?
I didn't realize he finished until the bed sunk and I was enveloped in his scent,he wrapped his arm around me and pulled me closer to him.
His warmth spread through me as I relaxed under his touch.
"Why aren't you sleeping?"He asked, his warm breath tickling my ear.
" I'm thinking about the baby , I want to know how you feel about this",I say and sit up . Syrus too gets up and turns the lamp next to the bed on.
"I'm happy,I look forward to raising a little pup that looks like you, with your beautiful eyes, smile and curly hair",he says, covering the hair that had escaped out of my bonnet.
"I will stand by you every step of the way in the coming six months",
" Six months?",
" Yes it's a little different with wolves,we tend to develop really fast and age really slow and since you're caring a pure blood the baby may come early",
I knew they have a longer lifespan than humans but I didn't know the pregnancy lasts six months and I may have the baby earlier.
"Speaking of age ,how old are you?",
"How old do you think I am?",he chuckled.
" 25?",
" No ",he laughed " I'm 40,but in werewolf years I'm basically in what humans would care my prime",
40? He didn't look a day older than 25 I swear. But if this is how these beings age doesn't that mean I'll die before him and our child?.
"So I'll grow old and die before you and our baby?", I frown.
"I can shift you,but that will require an approval from the council but they rarely approve ",
" So I'll be able to shift like the rest?",
" No ,you won't have a wolf because we are born with them they choose you and bind to your soul, but you will be able to get the benefits of being a wolf sight, speed, strength and a longer lifespan but only as long as the one that shifted you lives"
" So how long do you live?",
" The oldest wolf I knew lived until 490 years, at some point we just fade away and our wolf returns to the goddess Diana,so I'd say maybe half a century".
" You watched them fade away? Who was it?", I ask curiously.
" My paternal grandfather, it's the most beautiful thing I've seen",
" Was he in pain?",I asked again but he flickered my nose instead.
"He looked to be at peace,now go to bed,you need to take care of yourself now that you're carrying our baby",he said and pulled me into his arms again. He wants to shift me and I'll live for as long as he does. Does this mean he plans on keeping me by his side forever? That thought filled my face with a bashing smile there is nothing more I'd wish for.
"I love you",I said and smiled. He didn't respond to me and just tightened his hold on me,I didn't expect him to say it back to me but his gesture was a huge reassurance.
