Chapter FORTY SIX
After my talk with the Marshall I was given a representative, more like a lawyer to defend my case before the elders.
Cain already got his sentence he was to be executed if it were a 100 years ago he would have been hanged or had his head cut off but since we live in different times they were going to do to him what he did to his victims turn him rogue then kill him.
My mother is human so she is being charged as a terrorist by the human government.
Today was mine and my brother's trail ,we were going to appear before the elders. I waited outside the intimidating doors waiting for my turn . I had no hope Syrus' and Tatiana's fathers are both elders and I'm sure they want to see me dead. It will be sad to die and not see my son grow up,it was what I was scared of the most as I stood outside waiting for my turn.
The doors opened and my brother was pushed out strapped to a wheelchair with an iron mask on his face. It broke my heart to see him this way,I couldn't even speak to him or ask what his punishment was. The lady representing me was a lady that showed through her actions that she hated my guts.I couldn't even ask her because I knew she'd just ignore me.
Our eyes locked and he gave me a reassuring nod as he was wheeled away.
It was finally my turn and I was led in by the guards. The room was huge with a marble floor and decorated the roof.
There were nine elders in total that sat on a high table looking down at me,a seat remained empty. I was guessing that was the Sinclair family seat. There were also other wolves in attendance.
I was led to a stand that was in the middle of the room, I felt inferior, small compared to everyone else that looked down at me.
I saw Collin, Mark , Yedira and Roman in the audience.
"Representing the fourth defendant",the guard loudly announced.
" State your name", an older looking elder said, his face harshly drawn into a scowl.
"My name is Eden Blake my lord", I said with fear laced in my voice.
"You are being accused of conspiring and working as an accomplice to the criminal Cain how do you plead",
" Not guilty, I had no hand in this at all",
" The defendant is right my lords she had no idea that her family were the ones producing the toxic drug and disrupting national security",
" She is guilty just like the rest of them. She was involved in many instances where a wolf was infected with the drug, which is to say she is not the one that infected my daughter! ", A lady says, I look up and of course I know who she is. She looks exactly like Nidia, I'm guessing she is her mother.
"It takes a wolf approximately two hours to turn rogue after ingesting or inhaling the drug Vynul, there are witnesses that can prove that she was nowhere near Ms Nakia ",
" I can attest to that", Georgia stood up and said. I looked at her in confusion but she avoided my gaze and just looked at the elders. And Micheal and Floyd say the same as well.
"She has been keeping contact with them and she is the one that helped them attack the Crimson Pack territory", another elder says, this one is quite young almost looks the same age as Syrus but with these werewolves you can never be sure, with their gift of eternal youth.
"She was sent as Spy to help us catch Cain, despite knowing that they were her family she was willing to hand them over", Collin says.
What? I was?,I look at the lady representing me but again she treats me like I don't exist.
"Impossible! She clearly went to them with the intent of helping them attack that territory and hand over the pack's information", another says.
" I also stand as witness for her , it was all my brother's plan to send her there after her brother reached out to her we wanted to use it as an opportunity to finally infiltrate their circle and find their base of operations my father Elder Vanclavik was also aware of this", Yedira says.
" Is this true?!", The elder next to him asks
"Yes it is true", Simon says. I thought I heard him wrong,he hates me. Why would he like to defend me?. What was going on?.
" Besides we need her ,she was also a victim of Cain despite being her father he injected the drug into her when she was still young ,she didn't shift her body developed antibodies instead, she has been helpful since the day she found out she can help wolves that have turned rogue, many are recovering because of her", Mark says.
" And do you have any proof of what you say Dr Trent ?",
" Yes I do ",he said and the door opened " she is a familiar wolf to the council you've fought over her with Syrus for many years now , Deborah Lawrence". He said drawing even my attention.
Everyone's eyes turned to the beautiful woman walking into the room, her lustrous blonde hair bounced with every step she took, only the sound of her cane hitting the ground could be heard as she limped.
Her other leg was a prosthetic and I remembered when I saw her chewing on her leg when she was a rogue.
She was mesmerizing ,now I understand why Syrus couldn't forget her even though she turned into a hideous monster.
My blood really could cure rogues, her presence here was living proof of that.
Discussion erupted amongst the wolves in attendance. The doors opened again and Syrus walked in,and this time the room was taken over by noisy discussions. My eyes widened in shock. All I wanted to do was to run into his arms.
My eyes locked with his and the noise around us died down,I just wanted to run into his arms and tell him how much I love him and how sorry I really am. I know all this is him trying to help me as best as he can in spite of what I did. My actions resulted in terrible consequences where many lost their lives.
"We should have informed the rest of the council but I was sure you were going to reject the idea because of Eden's family ties to Cain,so we took it upon ourselves to do so",
" You do realize that you went against the rules of Syrus,as usual you do as you please and do not worry about the consequences", the young elder said.
" But it worked", Syrus smiles.
The elders left to have a meeting amongst themselves to finally reach a judgment. Syrus walked up to me and I couldn't help the urge to jump into his arms, the guard tried to stop me but was blocked by Collin.
He wrapped his arms around and finally after so long I relaxed,I took a deep breath of his scent letting its calmness wash over me.
"I'm so sorry, I should have trusted you, it's all my fault that people got hurt. I put you and everyone around me in danger", I sobbed.
" It's okay, it's my fault for not reassuring you and loving you right",he says and kisses me.
" how did you get the rest of your family to stand up for me?",
"We Vanclaviks always take care of our own,you don't think I was going to let you be alone in this did you? I want to prove to you just how much I love in every way possible", he says and kisses the corner of my mouth.
"What if it doesn't all work out", I say.
"Everything will be fine, you don't have to worry",
"How did you get your father to vouch for me?",
" The thought of not seeing his grandson ever again was enough to make him think twice", .
" Syrus", Deborah called out and walked towards us.
" I didn't get time to thank you. Thank you for not giving up on me", she said and hugged him.
" I'm not the one you should thank Deborah, Eden deserves your gratitude",
He says removing her hands from around his neck.
"Eden?",she looked at him in confusion
"Yes my mate",
"It's nice to meet you Deborah, you tried to attack me but who knew it would cure you", I joked and put on the best smile I could master.
" I see you found your mate, I'm happy for you",she says completely ignoring me, where was the ray of sunshine that everyone talked about?.
The elders walked back in and the youngest elder on the council who's name I learnt to be Byron stood up to say.
"We have reached a conclusion, the elders have no further evidence against you Mrs Vanclavik,so you are free of all charges and are free to go ", he says.
