Chapter FORTY

"Mummy please I don't want to",I pleaded as I sat strapped to the chair.
" Don't you want to make mommy proud, this is for your own good", she says and rubs my head.
Cain then walks towards me with a briefcase and fills the syringe with some greenish liquid.
"It's going to be okay",he says and injects me with the liquid.
It felt like my flesh was being burnt from the inside out, it was the worst pain imaginable.
And I woke up in a cold sweat again . After three more days, the doctor discharged me . Turns out I wasn't in any hospital just an area in this building they had turned into a miniature clinic.
I stood by the window and looked outside,this entire place was crawling with armed men. I've asked to leave so many times now but they all say I have to stay with my family. I asked Ty what was going on,why all the guns, but he said not to worry too much about it and just recover. They don't even let me out of this room. I'm starting to regret running to my brother for help.
Turns out Daniel Blake is not our real dad. My mother was cheating on him throughout their marriage. Our father is Cain, a hybrid that holds a grudge against werewolves because of how they treat him because he is a hybrid. Looking at the many cars and men that come here escorted by armed guards tells me there are many people involved in all this planned annihilation of all werewolves. I heard that they want to make them a national security threat so the government will have no choice but to break their treaty of peace with the werewolves and hunt all of them, their relationship is already rocky
from the recent rogue attacks in some towns that are getting out of hand and can no longer be hidden from the public.
I haven't had much sleep because of the dreams I was having, memories of my childhood that I didn't know I forgot. I started having them after meeting Cain and my mom again.
I wanted to ask my mother what it was they were filling me up with at that time but I barely see them except when we have dinner together as a family.
She is not who I remember her to be,she was only sweet and nice to me when she wanted me to shut up and take those shots and lie about the needle wounds when my dad asked about them. Why did I forget was it a coping mechanism I developed? I'm not comfortable being around her and I want to leave this place.
Looking out the window I saw the truck that brought some things that Ty said were only supplies at this time all the guards, even the ones from inside the house are called to help carry the many boxes.
This was my only chance,I couldn't handle being locked up anymore so I grabbed the hair pin in my hair and opened the door,they always locked it after delivering food to me.
I wandered down the hallway and when I heard footsteps and voices of some people I ran to the end of the hallway where the elevator was and pressed on a random floor. I don't know how many stories this building is but I'm guessing I was staying on the third or fourth floor that is turned into an apartment.
The doors open and I step out of the elevator I somehow reached the basement that had a two long hallways one in front of me and another on my left the one in front of me was lined with metal doors on each side,I looked through the glass of the door and saw a chained rogue that was biting at the chain on it's hingelegs ,it had eaten away at the flesh and only the bone remained.
All the rooms seemed to hold rogues in them. I turned to the hallway on my left and walked until I reached a lab of some sort,from the large window I could see all the happenings in the Lab.
I ducked when I saw men in white suits dragging a naked bruised woman "please let go of me", she sobbed but one of them struck her across the face and told her to shut up,they strapped her on a table and Cain walked in holding a needle.
"Please I'm begging you",the woman screamed as she attempted to shift , seeing that the man tased her.
"Hold her still", Cain said and injected a green substance into her neck as she screamed in horror. I couldn't help the gasp that escaped my lips, Cain sadistically smiled and looked at me from where I was peeking from.
I scrambled to get up and get out of there but it was too late there were guards already waiting behind me.
They held me up and led me inside the lab, "let her go and take the subject away", he waved them off.
" Don't be afraid Eden,I won't hurt you my dear",he smiles and takes off his latex gloves.
" You're kidnapping people and turning them rogue, how can you do this to your own kind!",
" They never considered me as one of their own", he sadly smiles, taking the mask that covered half of his face of, revealing his hideous face , it's like half of his face was clawed off.
'` mind taking a walk with me?",he says I knew he wasn't asking but telling me to do so.
We walked through the door the men had taken the woman from earlier through.
"Vynul,a very precious little thing,I began working on it for such a long time but it was thanks to that idiot Daniel that it became perfect ",he says playing with a little glass tube that looked to be barely more than two inches. It was the same one he held in my memories he injected me wo Vynul,I can't believe this man injected me with this substance.
" It is very addictive if given to humans but it will kill them in a week, for werewolves it means absolute distraction it turns them into their monstrous side turning them into their true form", he said stopping in front of another glass,a man lay there mourning in pain as he lay covered in black blood that gashed out from his eyes,ears and mouth,the sight in front of him reminded me of what happened to Nidia.
"Please"he moaned in pain and banged himself against the glass that separated us with so much force I thought it was going to crack . the man split his head but he seemed not to feel the pain as he tried it this time putting a crack in it before he got on his knees and shifted.
"Seems I need to reinforce the glass once again", Cain laughed,I was not finding this situation funny at all.
"All deserve this ,they don't care for others like me,invalids they called us,they wanted to make their population pure with no hybrids".
I had read of this but that was a long time ago that is why the council was formed,there were some wolves that felt hybrids were not wolves and should not be allowed to be born in the first place so they took it upon themselves to do what they called a cleansing.
But that was about a hundred years ago,I know wolves have a longer lifespan than humans but how old was he? He didn't look more than forty.
"I used it on you and Ty to try and make the recessive werewolf Gene in you two express itself".
" You did it even though we would have developed an addiction to it and could have died in a week?".
" It was for a greater cause,for your own good. I've always wondered why it was never a success with you but with your brother even if it took years after he was exposed to it for his work. But there is still time even if it doesn't work we'll do it again".
" I don't want to and it's illegal to shift someone"
" You've lived among them and their influence has rubbed off on you,but that is another thing we'll fix as well, sooner or later you will understand", he says and a man grabbed me by the elbow and dragged me out of there. These people are insane and I didn't want to stay here any longer.
"Let go of me asshole!", I shout at the guard and snatch my hand out of his hold. He rudely shoves me into my room and locks then shuts the door behind him.
"You were told not to leave your room", my mother who's sitting on my bed says.
" It's not like I've been given a choice,to even leave the room,I know what Cain's doing and I don't agree with this,how can you stand for this mom!".
" I have to stand by my mate,you have to support your family as well"
" I don't have a family, I've never had one!",
" I will leave and let you come down as we will talk about this after dinner make sure to not let your father hear this",she said and walked locking the door behind her,I grabbed a pillow and threw it at the door to deal with my frustration. I didn't shift so my brother and I were useless to her and Cain that is why they decided to leave us behind. My father saw them for who they truly were, that is why he kept hiding us , and the fact that he was also wanted by the council.
I spent the rest of the day locked up when the door opened and Ty walked in.
"Cain told me you came across the lab", Ty that just walked in says.
" Ty don't you know what he's doing in those labs?",
"No I've never been to it ,he doesn't allow anyone in our family down there",
" He is kidnapping wolves and forcefully turning them rogue,he is torturing them ,it disgusting and inhumane and I want nothing to do with it,let's go let's get out of here Ty", I say grabbing his hands " they also injected use with that drug despite knowing we couldn't have died what kind of parents do that to their own children and when we didn't shift they abandoned us because we were of no use to them don't you realize how evil and monstrous they truly are?",
" I know I too wondered why they injected us with Vynul. I first shifted three days after I left home, then I got kidnapped by some of Cain's men that is how I found them,I didn't think much of it because I was just happy about finding mom but now that you've mentioned it it's all making sense",
" Help me ,help me get back my child and we can both get out of here just you and me like we wanted
" We can start afresh plus my jewelry line is doing pretty well,but how will I get through Syrus' territory's borders without running into the patrol guards?",
" I can map the entire area for you and I know what times they switch shifts you can get in then",
" That's great I'm good at masking my scent so I'll be in and out in a few minutes, don't worry sis I'll get your baby back, I'll bring my nephew safely to you ,I promise, and we'll get out of here", he says and hugs me giving me a kiss on my forehead, I'm glad he wants to leave with me. Staying here with that psycho Cain isn't good for us,in case the council gets their hands on him we both can be implicated,so it's best to get out of here as soon as we can.
