TWENTY!

BRIANNA

I stared at Trish, she looked confused and funny at the same time.

“What is she talking about, Trish?” I asked her but the words don't seem to be leaving her mouth.

“I'm sorry, Layla,” I said to Layla when Trish refused to speak, “please can you tell me what's going on?” I asked.

“I'm the one who is supposed to bring you both back here,” she said and I looked at Trish.

“Can you say something!” I basically yelled.

“She's right, I'm sorry,” she finally spoke.

“How do you know about me?” I asked, Layla.

“I read a diary,” she said and I raised my eyebrows, “I never knew my mother,” she said, “but my Dad gave me her diary days before he died,” she said, sadly.

I noticed Liam became uncomfortable at the sound of Layla talking about her Dad.

“Did your Mom say anything else?” I asked her.

“No, she didn't,” she said and again, I knew she was lying.

“She must have said something,” I insisted but she gave me a negative response.

“Don’t,” Dia cautioned me as I was about to speak again.

“I need to find out what she knows,” I said to Dia.

“I'm sensing she wants to tell you the truth, including Trish but you can't speak with the men in the room,” she said and I agreed.

“I would like to do a full body checkup now Layla is awake,” I said and the three of them looked at each other.

“That's it?” Liam asked.

“What are you talking about?” I asked.

“It's obvious you have been betrayed by her,” he pointed at Trish and her eyes lit up.

“She didn't betray me,” I said, “she just has her reason,” I made it clear to Liam.

Liam cleared his throat and stood up, Ethan and Mason followed, leaving the room.

We made sure they were far off because of their super hearing then I faced Trish.

“Tell the truth, right now,” I said to her.

“I'm sorry, Brianna. I just wanted to get out of the human world,” she said.

“That's why you insist we attend that party,” I said, referring to the party where I met Laim for the first time and she nodded.

“Wait, what party?” Layla asked.

“That's the first place I meant Laim,” I said to her.

“Hold up, you are the girl Liam is going crazy about?” She asked and my heart fluttered.

“Wait, really,” I suddenly wanted to hear more about Liam's feelings for me.

“You have disrupted everything,” Layla said to Trish.

“Don't you think I know that?” She cried out

“I thought you guys don't know each other?” I asked.

“We don't,” they both said at the same time.

“What's this big thing that has either been disrupted or jeopardized?” I asked and both of them looked at each other.

“You have to read it yourself,” Layla said, “in your mother's diary,” she said.

“My Mom had a diary?” I asked, my voice kept out low.

“Yeah,” she said, “and she was the best of writers,”

“Where can I find it?” I asked Layla.

“Back at my house,” she said.

I looked at Trish who had been silent for a while, “Are you okay?” I asked her.

“My goodness, you don't hate me?” She asked.

“Why would I hate you?” I asked her, “I have seen how happy you are ever since we arrived here, even if you refuse to meet Ethan,” I said and Layla gasped.

“Please don't tell me Beta Ethan is your mate?” She asked Layla.

Trish nodded shyling and blushed. “Then you have your work caught out for you,”

“I don't know, I think he is also smitten by her,” I said, “what about you, Mason, was pretty worried about you,” I said to her.

She sighed, “Mason and I is complicated and we have far better things to do today than talk about that,”

“Okay,” I said and tried to get her on her feet.

“What about you?” She asked me.

“Me? There is nothing about me,” j said.

“How are you handling Liam's betrothal?” She asked.

“It isn't official till the Highest Alpha King announces it,” I said, “at least that's what I tell myself.

“We will be fine,” Trish said, as we guided Layla to the wheelchair, “we don't need men. We are three powerful women,” she said.

“I thought you said you don't know who I am?” Layla asked her.

“I don't,” Trish responded.

“Then how do you know I'm powerful?” She asked.

“You are the daughter of the second highest priest and your mother was friends with our mothers. I bet the three of us can reach the heavens,” Trish said and I smiled.

I never really had another friend, it was just Trish, who is almost like a sister. It feels nice to have someone else like us.

We wheeled Layla out of the room and tried to avoid the guards and soldiers walking around.

“What's a beta?” I suddenly ask the question that has been on my mind all day.

“Really, Bri? Right now?” Trish asked me while we were trying to avoid some guards.

“Yes now, because I need Mason to stop telling me I don't belong here,” I said to her.

“A beta is like an assistant to the Alpha and is only assigned to the ranking Alpha or heir to the throne,” she said.

“You are an Alpha yourself, Brianna,” she said and I tried not to scream.

“What do you mean?” I asked instead.

“You are the heir in your family that automatically makes you the Alpha, Trisha is your Gamma,” she said and I was suddenly confused.

“Wait, not beta?” I asked.

“No, for female Alphas, it's called Gamma,” she said and I fully understood.

“You didn't explain all of this to me, Trish,” I said to her.

“I assumed you knew,” she said, “we gotta move,” the coast was cleared and we hurried to where my guards were already waiting.

“How did you get the vehicle?” I asked my head guard.

“I just asked, your grace,” he said, smiling. I knew that was not the whole story.

Layla showed the driver the directions to her father's house and in fifteen minutes we arrived.

“Wait here,” I ordered. Myself, Trish and Layla walked into her father's house.

“Your home is pretty,” I said, admiring the decor.

She was about to respond when we heard a sound.

“It came from my room,” Layla said and we rushed behind her to her office.

The door was slightly open and Layla kicked the door down.

A huge chair flew towards us, I stood between the chair and Layla and Trish and the chair broke into pieces.

I looked at our assailant and it was the Highest Alpha King with his guards.

“Your Majesty,” the three of us bowed our heads.

“I'm sorry about that, I thought you were rogues,” he said.

“We followed a sent down here,” he was in his army uniform.

“No rogues here, your majesty,” Layla said, snarkly.

“Of course, my apologies,” he stared at me for a while and then walked out of the room.

“You don't trust the King,” I said to Layla.

“How can I trust the man who murdered my father,” she said.

“What?!
