34!
BRIANNA
I quickly took a step back as the other maids helped her out of the gown but it was too late. The poison had infected most parts of her body causing her to act strangely.
One of the girls hit the panic button in my chambers and a very loud noise came out. Immediately the whole hallway was filled with guards and soldiers.
“We need to get the duchess out of here,” I heard the voice of a woman with a commanding voice.
“The duchess is leaving for her castle,” I heard Trisha's voice and I ran to her.
“Trisha,” I called out to her, hugging her.
“You are alright, Brianna. You are alright,” she said, caressing my hair.
“I'm sorry but the King has asked for your presence, your grace,” the woman said. I took a good look at her. She was dressed all black like the royal guard.
“Didn't you hear me, we are going back home!” Trish yelled at her.
“I'm sorry, my lady but the Highest Alpha King's orders supersedes yours,” she said and I stopped Trish from talking.
“She is right, Trish. We should go,” I said to her and looked at the guard, “lead the way,” I said.
A lot of guards surrounded me and I felt choked. The question now isn't why this is happening to me. It is how this keeps happening.
“Where is Layla?” I asked, Trish as we made our way to the throne room.
“I haven't seen her since we left your chambers,” she said and hit her head. “I know I shouldn't have left you especially after the first attempt on your life,” she said and I held her hands.
“This isn't your fault neither was the first one, you have been nothing but diligent in your work,” I said as we walked inside the throne room.
Liam walked up to me, he stood in front of me and took my hands, “are you okay?” He asked me.
“What are you doing?” I asked, trying to get a look at the King.
“Don't look at him,” he said, looking straight into my eyes, “are you okay?” He touched my face.
“I'm okay,” I said, feeling secure in his hands, “I'm just a bit shaken.”
“We all are,” I heard the King's voice behind Liam.
“Your Majesty,” myself and Trish bowed immediately. How did he get here so quickly?
“Rise, dear,” he said, giving a hard look to Liam.
“You are going to given a place to stay here in the palace,” he said and I looked at Liam
“I can stay here, your majesty. I have duties to attend to,” I said to him and he sighed.
“Does that duty supersede your duty as the future Queen and Luna of this kingdom?” He asked and I inhaled deeply.
“Your Majesty, I also have a duty to the members of my dukedom,” I said, “I can't just abandon them all because someone wants me dead.”
“Not just someone, the rogues,” he said and I rolled my eyes in my head.
“We don't know that father,” Liam said and he turned to look at him.
“Really, Liam. Then what do we know?” He asked him, looking at Liam with anger.
Liam looked at me, I shook my head trying to stop him from doing something stupid.
“Don't make accusations when you have not been given any evidence to support it. That's how rebellion and violence starts in the land,” he said boldly at his father.
Myself, Trish, Ethan and Mason looked at each other. None of us have since Liam stood up to his father.
“Good, that's how a King is supposed to speak,” the King said and I gave out a huge breath.
He walked towards his throne room. All of a sudden he turned and with a wave of his hand, a big wind ran towards Liam.
“Liam!” I screamed but not loudly, only Liam could hear me. Liam stood firm as the wind went through him.
The King looked at me and then at Liam. I guess he expected me to flip over Liam about to be hurt.
He looked at Liam with both admiration and surprise. He didn't expect Liam to wave through his power but he did.
“Duchess Brianna, you are to be in the palace till the threat against you has been neutralized,” I tried to protest but he cut me off.
“That's my final decision!” he thundered, shaking the whole room.
“Akira will be your personal guard, she is one of our firecless warriors,” he said, pointing towards the guard who escorted us down here.
“When you mean Personal guard, your majesty. Do you mean?”
“Yes, Akira will be with you for twenty four hours, no exception. We must protect you at all cost,” he said, taking his seat on his throne.
“What about Trish and Layla?” I asked him, walking towards his throne.
“They need protection too, will you give them personal guard as well?” I asked him. The king doesn't like when you contend with him. That I know and right now, I just pushed his button.
“I told you Akire is a firecless warrior, well let me add that is part of our elite female warriors and two others will be joining her to protect your ladies,” he said. I tried to speak, he lifted one of his fingers and I stopped.
“Your ladies will be protected with the same energy as you, they are the future wives of this kingdom, future Beta's” he said and the room became tense.
One of his betas whispered in his ears and he smirked, “at least one of them is a future wife,” I glanced at Mason who had his head down.
I walked out the throne room with Akire breathing down my neck.
“Okay, Stop!” I yelled and a wind blew through us.
“Brianna!” Trish yelled and I calmed down. “What did we talk about powers inside the palace,” she whispered to me.
“I didn't mean to,” I said, softly. Then I looked at Akire.
“You can't be with me twenty four hours or I'm going to kill myself,” I said to her and she raised an eyebrow.
“Once I get into my chambers you will be stationed outside, nothing more,” I said to her and she nodded.
“Why do you think the King made her your personal guard?” Trish whispered as we walked back to my chambers.
“Ma'am it's not that way anymore,” Akire said and I stopped walking. “Your belongings have been moved,” she said and I looked at Trish.
“I just have one guess. To spy on me,” I said to her.
