55!
BRIANNA
“Can you save him, Brianna?” Liam asked as I stood unsure of what to do at the moment.
“You all need to leave right now,” I said, looking round the room for gloves.
“We can't, we have to be with him at all times,” he said and I nodded. I guess I can understand that.
“Do I need to check both of you out before I touch him?” I asked him and Ethan. They shrugged me off but I know better.
Once I stable the spy I will turn over to them.
“What do we do, he is losing a lot of blood,” Trish said to me.
“Just stable him enough to talk,” Liam said, pacing around the room.
“You don't mean that. He is a person who deserves good healthcare.”
“Not in this hospital, Brianna. You don't know what he has done. Stable him and we will take it from there,” I was about to speak when Layla held my hands and shook her head.
“Fine,” I said with gritted teeth. I removed the coverall from him and tore out his clothes.
The wolfsbane bullet penetrated his abdomen and needs to be removed immediately.
“That bullet has to,” Trish said, looking at me.
“Don't I know it,” I said and tore a little incision around the bullet.
His scream filled my ears and the room. “Give him something for the pain,” I said to Trish. She was about to, when Ethan stopped her.
“Okay, that's it. Do y'all want to treat him yourself because I will be happy to walk away right now,” looking at both him and Liam.
He lets go of Trish's hand and she administers the medicine. Hopefully he is not allergic to it.
“Have you found it?” Trish asked and shook my head.
“Almost, it's hard to find anything without an x-ray especially when it's this close to his lungs,” I placed the scalpel down.
“What are you doing?” Layla asked me. Ethan and Liam had a confused look as well.
“I'm going to take the bullet out nonsurgically,” I placed my hands over his bullet, trying to feel the vibration of the bullet.
I couldn't feel it at one spot, it kept moving around , “Statis mentis, motus cessat,
Immobilitas, permaneo stat.” I whispered and the bullet stood underneath my hands in his body.
I raised my hands up, staying as still as I could possibly be, “haa!” The bullet came out of his body with a force and stuck behind me on the wall.
I moved quickly to stop the blood, there wasn't much like I expected and this may lead to a lot of things.
“Looks like you have stabilized him,” Liam said after I was done sewing him up.
“Yes, for now. He might need intense surgery once you are done with him,” I said.
“He is not going to need anything once I'm done with him,” he said, walking away. I looked at Ethan who just kept a straight face.
I ran after him, “Liam stop,” I created a wind in front of him and he walked back, pushing me into another emergency room.
He closed the door and placed me behind it. “You can't not do that here,” he said, looking straight into my eyes.
“Well, I needed to get your attention,” I hit his chest, moving him away from me. He held his chest and groaned.
“What's wrong?” I ran to him. I helped him on the bed-like chair in the room and took off his chest.
“Liam,” I gasped at the massive injury at the side of his chest. “This is very close to your heart.”
“I know,” he sighed heavily, in pain.
“This could be infected. You promise,” I said to him, trying to hold back my tears.
“I know that,” he said and I scoffed.
“I don't think you do, because you would have told me the truth when I asked you earlier.”
“I needed you to…”
“Take care of the spy?” I asked him sarcastically, “here, I think I gathered that already,” I said to him.
I removed some of the sand and stones I found around the wound. He kept opening and closing up his eyes as I worked. He was trying hard not to act like he was in pain.
“What happened?” I asked him.
“He had wolfbane liquid on his fangs aimed at Ethan's head. I pushed Ethan away and it ended up on my chest instead,” he looks at me.
“Oh my goodness, you saved his life,” I said and he nodded.
“He will do the same for me in a heartbeat,” he said. “It was an honor saving his life.”
“I'm sure he is going to say the same,” he sighed heavily as irrigated the wound with what looked like a saline solution. It is a saline solution but engineered for werewolves. Fortunately, it's the same name.
I gently cleaned the area of the wound with a sterile gauze pad, working from the center outward.
He held my waist tightly as he eyes was closed. I smiled and applied some antibiotics and dressed the wound.
“You are all done,” I said. He got up from the chair and I helped him put it on his shirt. Despite the injury, his chest still looks as fabulous as it should be.
“We could shut the blinds and you could see more than this,” he teased.
“Hmm,” I said, pretending not to know what he was talking about.
“Hey,” he brought my face up and kissed me. It has been a long time since we both tasted each other.
He broke the kiss and stared at me. “I have to go, rain check?”
“Wow, looks like I'm rubbing off on you,” I said and he rolled his eyes.
“I will have Akire take you back to the palace,” he said and I shook my head.
“No, it's fine. I will stick around for a while, help out here,” I said to him.
“I don't want you here when I…”
“I won't be here,” I touched his arms, “you are not ready to show me this side of you yet, the good thing is we have a lot of time.”
He got up and walked towards the door. He opened the door and walked back to me. Bringing my head towards his and kissing me.
I wrapped my hands around his shoulders but he brought them down. He didn't want the kiss to last long but he did. We wanted to stop but we just couldn't.
“I miss you,” he said and walked out of the door.
