The Trinity!

BRIANNA

Myself, Trish and Layla walked through the bushes to get to our destination.

“Can someone remind me why we didn't just drive ourselves over here?” I asked, not used to grasses all over me.

Trish and Layla, mocking me for not knowing the best thing about being a wolf, which is running through the woods.

Dia consoled me so, I didn't let it get to me because very soon I will shift and hopefully I will fall in love with the feeling of the leaves against my skin.

As we walked, the trees grew denser, and the underbrush thicker. I stumbled over a root, and Layla caught my arm, steadying me.

"Almost there," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

We pushed through a final curtain of branches, and a clearing opened up before us. In the center of the clearing stood an enormous oak tree, its branches twisted and gnarled with age.

Trish let out a whoop, and shifted in one fluid motion. Layla followed, her transformation eerily silent. Dia, who had been quiet until now, spoke to me.

"You're next, Brianna," she said. I could feel her dancing with encouragement inside of me.

I took a deep breath, feeling the familiar flutter in my chest. I had been dreading this moment, but with Dia's support, I felt a sense of calm wash over me.

I closed my eyes, focused on the sensation of the air on my skin, and let my body take over. The shift was faster this time, less painful. When I opened my eyes, I was on all fours, my senses heightened.

The world was a different place as a wolf. The smells were richer, the sounds clearer. I felt a sense of freedom, of exhilaration, that I had never experienced before.

Trish, Layla, surrounded me, their eyes shining with pride. We padded through the clearing, our paws silent on the grass.

But as we ran, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched. I caught a glimpse of a figure lurking at the edge of the clearing, and my heart skipped a beat.

Who was it? And what did they want?

We got to our destination spot, “where are they?” I asked.

Layla whistled with her fingers in her mouth, Liam, Ethan and Mason came out of their hiding spot.

“It's our secret signal,”she said, hugging them.

Myself and Trisha didn't move from our spot but Ethan walked over to Trish and stood by her side.

“So what did you call us out here for, I have to get back,” Liam said. The fact he was in a hurry to get back Margaret broke my heart.

“You can't marry her,” Layla said, abruptly.

“What do you mean by he can't marry her?” Mason asked and I rolled my eyes at the sound of his voice.

“Is she getting to you too?” He asked, Layla.

“She is my family,” Layla defended me, “and you need to stop referring to my family with what is in your head,” she stood her ground.

“I'm sorry,” he apologized.

“You don't have to be sorry,” Layla said to him, “I won't change your beliefs but you have to change your snacky comments,” she said to him.

“Brianna,” Liam said my name, softly and my heart melted, “why can't I marry Margaret?” He asked me.

I bit my lips and faced him, “because the moon goddess told my mother that our destinies are intertwined,” I said.

“Not just mine,” I looked at Mason, “along with Trisha and Layla's,”

“Whose destiny is intertwined with yours?” He asked.

“Our mates,” Trisha said, trying to avoid eye contact with Ethan.

“I can't call off the betrothal,” Liam said.

“Don't tell me you believe this?” Mason asked him.

“Yes, I do,” he sighed, “because I saw my father kill Layla's father,” he said and we all gasped, while I held Layla.

“Apparently, Layla's father help looked for you,” he pointed at me, “and when you resurfaced,”

“And when I resurfaced he realized he killed my sister not me,” I completed his sentence.

“My father will not willingly hurt you, Brianna. He must have something on him,” she said in tears.

“He has threatened to hurt the kingdom if I don't get married to Margaret,” Liam said.

“Then he must know about the prophecy,” Trish said.

“I doubt that,” Layla said, “he might know something but he doesn't know all because he wouldn't have been searching my apartment for Brianna's mother dairy,” she said.

“What's the prophecy about?” Liam asked.

“I already told you about how our destiny are intertwined, we will be very powerful together,” I said to him.

“More powerful than the Highest Alpha King?” He asked.

“Yes, much more powerful than him,” I said, thinking back to my mother's diary.

She said my father lived working for the king, I wonder how he felt when he found out the King was after his daughter's life.

“So the King killed your parents?” Mason asked, referring to me and Trish.

“Yes,” Trish said, I noticed Ethan took her hands with his.

“And then he killed Layla's father and blamed it on rogues,” he said, “your parents' deaths were also blamed on rogues,” he said.

“Goddess!” Ethan exclaimed, “the trinity,” himself and Mason said at once.

“What's the Trinity?” I asked.

“It's a series of events that must happen for a full blown war to happen,” Liam said.

“I thought the war was already happening?” I asked.

“That was a battle and the people didn't know about it. This time the whole kingdom and our allies will know about it,” Liam said, running his fingers through his hair.

Even in the midst of all of these, I found it hot and sexy.

“Why will the king blame these deaths on the rogues and start a war with them?” Trish asked.

“To rule them,” Liam said, “my father wants to rule everyone,” he said.

“So who is the third death?” I asked and they all looked at me.

“Oh my goodness!” Trish yelled, “it's going to be you,” she said.

I scoffed, “my death can't escalate anything,” I said to them.

“Yes, it can't. Everyone thinks your parents were killed by rogues and a huge fire happened in your dukedom, if he tells the people the rogues killed you there will be violence,” Liam said.

“Well, we can't let that happen,” I said, “whether it is me or someone else. No one is dying tonight,” I said, firmly.

“So what's the plan?” Layla asked.

“It's time for spy duties,” Ethan said.

“We are crashing a betrothal party,” I said to her.
