chapter 29
I reluctantly woke in bed, the sun blaring through the curtains as I tried to beckon sleep to return to me, my head still pounding from the mate mark that Zane had given me. I could feel all my mates around me, Matthew at my back with his arm draped over my waist, Alexander at my front as he absently stroked my hair. Zane and Dean were near my legs, holding onto me as though I may disappear at any moment. I was so grateful for them all, for everything they have already done for me and all they will continue to do, I still don’t feel worthy, but perhaps I can accept that they are mine either way.
I smile to myself, keeping my eyes closed as I embraced them all, loving the feel of them against me, of their skin against mine. It was pure bliss and I didn’t want it to end, after everything that had happened in my life I was finally happy, I finally felt like I belong and I was terrified that if I took it for granted; even for an second. It would all be ripped away.
“No one will take us from our mates.” Growled a voice in my head, causing me to jump slightly.
“Wait…. Who are you?” I silently replied, making sure I didn’t speak out loud as I didn’t want to wake up my men.
“I’m Nyx, I’m surprised you didn’t realise.”
“How are you talking to me?” I ask, “you’ve never done that before.”
“You’ve never been ready to hear me before, not like this.”
“I don’t understand, how is this possible?”
“We are the Red wolf.” She smiles, and I could actually see her in my mind, her beautiful red fur bouncing as she moved. “We can do anything we want. Selene has blessed us.”
“The moon goddess?”
“Yes, she will protect us and so will those she has chosen to be by our side.”
“I’m glad I can talk to you, it’s lonely sometimes when you don’t know much about the world.”
“We’ll get there.” She promised. “But it will take time to erase all the warlock did to us.”
“I hope you are right… I hope that we can heal.”
“We will.”
Content and calm, I eventually fall back to sleep, only waking up when I feel movement at my back, Matthew slowly waking as he groaned and stretched, causing the others to stir also; including me.
“Good morning.” I smile, opening my eyes to look at them all.
Morning sweetness.” Dean chuckles before falling onto the floor, cursing loudly as he does.
“You ok?” I call, pulling the others completely from the depths of sleep.
“Fine.” He says, “just remind me to not sleep next to Zane again, he kicks.”
“Only on purpose, you were on my leg.” Zane mutters, cuddling my legs as he nuzzled me.
“I wasn’t, you were on mine.” Dean protests.
“Can we not do this so early?” I laugh, secretly pleased that they were already joking around.
“I quite like that’s the mutt is on the floor, gives me more room.” Alexander chuckles dryly, stretching himself out before he kisses the side of my head.
“Watch your mouth biker boy.” Dean growls, though we can all tell that he isn’t serious as he moves to stand. “I can kick your ass anytime.”
“Come on them, Jean lady. I can take you half asleep.” Alex jokes back, putting his leg on Dean’s shoulder and shoving him back onto the floor.
“While this is lovely, I’m starving.” I giggle, carefully manoeuvring over them all so that I could go to the bathroom. “I’ll be in the bathroom when you all grow up.”
“But I don’t want to grow up.” Matthew pouts, rubbing his eyes.
“Then you don’t get coffee!” I shout, slamming the bathroom door as they all laugh.
