Chapter 60

I woke up in the middle of the night to a strange noise, it seemed so familiar and yet so new at the same time. But I couldn't remember what it was once I was awake, my mind slow and tired. I sit up on the bed and look around in the dark, no one was there, not even Drax. So what did I hear? Was it just a dream?
I shuffle to the edge of the bed and throw my legs off, my heart pounding in my chest, it couldn't have been nothing. I was sure I heard .... something.
I looked around again as I climb to my feet, holding onto the bed post until the dizziness passes. I guess that I missed supper as well as lunch, why didn't anyone wake me? What was going on?
I walk towards the door slowly, jumping at every shadow, my breath coming in rapid pants. I didn't know why I was so afraid, but something was wrong... I could feel it deep within my bones.
"I don't like this." Came Nyx's growling voice. "It's too quiet."
"what do you think is going on?" I ask her, stopping mid step.
she growls again, "Do you smell that?"
I take a deep breath through my nose and sure enough, I realise what she means... Blood. I can smell someone's blood, and they aren't very far from the room.
"Do you think we are being attacked? I didn't hear any alarms." I ask her, letting her take over slightly so our senses were heightened.
"I don't know, but it can't be good." She says slowly, her growls intensified. "Be careful Annalise, I'm still weak."
I nod my head as I take another step towards the door, jumping backwards when it slams open, my heart plummeting to my feet. I scream and stumble backward, my eyes taking longer than normal to adjust to the sudden light.
"Annalise? ... oh thank god, this place is like a maze." Came a very familiar voice, one I recognised instantly, my head snapping toward him. "I'm so glad I found you."
I scream for a new reason this time and throw myself into his arms, tears spilling from my eyes. "Matthew? I've missed you so much! What took so long?"
"we can talk about that later love, right now we need to go." He says, ushering me towards the door. "We don't have much time, I'm going to need you to run with me."
I nod my head, still tired and dizzy but knowing I had no choice. If I wanted to get away from this place I had to be quick, it wouldn't be long before Drax caught onto what was happening and I dreaded to think what he would do if he caught us.
we run down the hallway, avoiding the bodies of those that Matthew had killed, I didn't even have time to think before we were running down the stairs and into the night, a black suv parked out front.
Matthew pushed me onto the passenger seat before rushing around and jumping into the drivers seat, instantly pulling out and speeding down the road, not waisting any time at all. I was beginning to get nervous as I wrapped my hands around my stomach protectively, we couldn't get caught, we just couldn't. Drax would hurt the baby.
"Matthew how did you get past the guards?" I ask, looking around in panic.
He glanced at me for a brief second, "Drax isn't the only one who has spies, I came as soon as I could, I hated leaving you with him." He pauses. "I had to wait until he thought we had gone our separate ways, he had to think we'd stopped searching for you."
I breath a sigh of relief, still clutching my stomach. "How did you know where I was? Did your spies tell you?"
"Arron told me the exact room, he was a big help. He said you knew?" He clutches the wheel tighter as we turn a sharp corner. "I hated leaving you there Annalise, please believe that i didn't want to do it."
"I believe you." I whisper, sending him a soft smile. "I did know, Arron told me when things weren't going so well, said I needed to pretend."
"I'm glad you did, Drax had to trust he could leave you on your own for the plan to work." He nods, sending me a wink. "You did well."
"Did you know he injected me with wolfsbane and silver? It was horrible." I shiver at the memory, Nyx growing softly; happier to be with Matthew.
Matthew nods again, "the sick bastard was basically poisoning you to control you."
"yeah, I couldn't even feel my wolf." I agreed. I look down at my stomach, "theirs something I have to tell you."
He glanced at me for a second before looking back at the road, sighing when we were officially out of the territory. "What is it love? ... if you are going to say he marked you, we already know and we don't think any less of you... you did what you had to."
"it isn't that..." I murmur. "I'm pregnant with Alexander's baby."
matthews head snaps towards me, a large smile coating his face. "You're sure?"
"I found out yesterday, I'm a few weeks along." I mutter, smiling back.
"that's great news love! I can't wait for you to tell him."
"me either, when will we be home?"
"a few hours."
