Chapter 58

It didn't take long for everyone to finish breakfast, and Drax was satisfied that I ate as much as I could, even if I didn't finish the entire plate. I rose from my seat after him, waiting until he said I could move.
"Arron." He called to the guard who spoke to me yesterday, "it's your job to watch her today, if you lose her, you lose your life." He told him.
Arron glanced at me nervously, as though I may say something incriminating about what he said. When I said nothing he spoke up, "yes alpha, I will take good care of her for you."
Drax turns to me, his eyes suddenly hard. "If you betray the trust I am putting in you today, you will never leave my sight again. Am I clear?"
I step forward and run my hands up his chest. "I won't betray your trust, I want you to be able to leave without worrying I will run away."
he watches me for a terrifyingly long moment before he nods, "I will hold you to that Red." He says, turning to leave.
"have a good day." I call, smiling at him at he leaves.
The rest of the room empties quickly, leaving only me, Chloe and Arron. They both look around nervously, as though someone would jump at them from the corners of the room and destroy them where they stood, both of them equally scared. I guess I will have to take the lead.
"Chloe why don't you go set up the dvd room and we'll meet you there, I want to see where this makeup is." I smile, watching as she nods and leaves.
"No problem." She says softly.
I turn to Arron, his eyes looking anywhere but me. "You don't have to worry." I say slowly, keeping my voice down. "I won't tell anyone what you told me, I'm only pretending with Drax."
He looks around before his eyes land on me, his shoulders visibly relaxing. "Thank you, I'll trust your word." He says.
I nod my head, quickly changing the subject in case anyone comes. "Where would the makeup be?" I ask him.
His demeanour changes instantly to a uninterested guard. "I'm sure they'll bring it to you miss, the alpha ordered it for you."
"okay, then let's go to the dvd room and see if it's there." I suggest, smiling softly.
"lead the way, miss." He nods, pointing towards the door.
I nod back, leaving the dining room just as the cleaners enter to remove all the plates and food, my shoulders relaxing slightly. I wanted to let Arron know that I wouldn't rat him out to the alpha, that I would keep what he said a secret and now I have done that, it won't be mentioned again. We had to keep up appearances and not cause any unwanted attention.
We enter the dvd room and Chloe is sat their awkwardly, jumping at every little sound, I could only imagine what she had been through, what James was doing to her. I wished once more that their was something I could do for her, but I was just as powerless, just as trapped.
I smiles at her, keeping my voice low so that I don't scare her. "What would you like to watch Chloe?"
she shrugs, but smiles; "I'm not sure, what do you like? I like Disney but we don't have to watch one of those, I know it can bore some people." She rambled.
I smile wider, "I've only seen a couple of Disney movies, but I loved them. Would you like to pick which Disney movie we watch?"
she beams at me, jumping to her feet. "Sure, I really like the little mermaid so we can watch that?" She asks, already moving towards the shelf.
"sure!" I agree, moving to take a seat on the couch. "I'll trust your judgement."
"you should!" She laughs, placing it into the player and turning it on. "It's a great film."
she comes to sit beside me and we dive into the world of the little mermaid together, our eyes completely glued to the screen. After a while the makeup arrives and I smile widely, excited to try it out.
"Do you know how to use this stuff? I honestly have no clue what I am doing, it just sounded like a good idea when I suggested it." I chuckle, watching as her face lights up once more.
"I could paint your nails, I'm quite good." She tells me, pulling out the polish. "I must warn you though if I find sequins in here, you're going to have to wear them!"
I laugh, shoving my hands at her. "Go crazy, I don't mind at all."
She pulls out orange and pink polish, not two colours I would place together, but I let her go with it, excited to see how they turn out. I suggested the girly day to get her away from James, but I was really enjoying it, Chloe was lovely to be around. She made me smile for real.
She sets of painting my nails, her voice smaller than before. "why did you pick me?" She asks.
"what do you mean?" I frown, watching her as he trims back my nails.
"You could have picked any she-wolf to hang with, but you picked me. Why? I'm nothing special, I'm not even entropy sure what a friend is, I've never really had one. Not for long anyway." Her voice was small and unsure, as though I had some sort of alternative motive.
"I thought that you needed help, I saw the bruises and wished that their was something I could do, but this was all I could manage." I admit, keeping my voice barley above a whisper as I look around. "I'm just as trapped as you are, but getting you away from James even for a few hours is better than nothing. It gives you some time just to be yourself and relax."
"You did it for me? Couldn't you get in trouble for that?" Her voice was littered with concern.
I shrug, pretending that I didn't care. "We are both prisoners here, the least they could do was allow us to be friends. It's not like it'll hurt anything."
"You are very brave." She smiles softly, "I wish I was more like you."
I giggle, my nails already looking loads better with her help. "being brave isn't all it's cracked up to be, it gets me into a lot of trouble."
"it's better than being a coward, I've never stood up to anyone in my entire life and look how my life had turned out." She sighs, pulling out some blue sparkled sequins from the bag.
"if you haven't noticed I am in the same situation, you aren't alone Chloe, neither of us are."
"I guess you are right, does this make us friends?" I could hear the hope in her voice.
"of course! Best friends of you would like."
