Secrets leaked
Chapter twenty-seven
Jayde
I remember I saw the keys beside him that other time when he moved too close for comfort.
Gosh! I thought he was going to kiss me the other time. I couldn't stop the hard beating of my heart.
I don't fucking know why my heart is reacting in such a way towards him. It's annoying.
I came back downstairs fearfully and prayed silently for him to leave the room. As God would have it, he walked downstairs a few minutes later and disappeared into the room.
I use the opportunity given to run back into the room and take the keys.
With the keys, I unlock the door and walk out.
But then, call it instincts but something keeps telling me I won't be able to leave if I go like this.
So, I move back and stay beside the house.
Almost immediately, Henry walks out, looking very furious.
He moved to the man by the gate post and speaks some inaudible to him.
He turns back, signing so loudly that I can hear him. I know he wants to let people know our honeymoon is going well.
But I can't stand it, I can't continue to take Hattie's place. Not after what he did to me last night.
I want Beatrice to give me my money, then I can leave. At least Beatrice was supposed to come back today.
Gosh, I don't think I can go another day pretending to be Hattie. I can't do it. I will as well just tell Henry I'm not Hattie. And that I'm Jayde
It's seriously not funny and I'm fuming especially at this annoying man before me.
After looking around severally, Henry walks in.
I let out a sigh and started towards the gate. I open it and enter the street.
I run some miles before waving a car to a stop.
I don't even have the money to pay but I'm sure Beatrice will give me when I get to their place.
That reminds me. I try their lines again, both James and Mercy. And none refused to pick up.
Something is telling me that are intentionally ignoring it. Though, I kind of wonder why that is so.
We clearly had an agreement. The contract was supposed to expire yesterday night. In fact, Hattie is supposed to take her place today.
It doesn't even matter if she does or not. What matters is that I am leaving.
Since James won't pick up my calls, I text him. My text was short. I told him I'm in front of Beatrice's house and he should come and pay the Chauffeur or get Hattie embarrassed.
It works like magic because I'm suddenly looking at James in front of the house.
I wonder why he's there anyway when he should be at Hattie's house.
I look at him for a while, not forgetting to spare him a dirty glare before walking inside and leaving him to sort out the public chauffeur.
I walk into the living room and scoff slightly. Amazed that Mercy and Beatrice are in here.
So, how come I kept calling and no one picked up. Are they trying to go back on their word already?
"What's this?" I throw the phone with me at Mercy, angrily. I don't believe they made me lose my virginity yesterday. And today, they are doing as if this isn't a contract!
As if the contract wasn't meant to expire today!
Mercy sighs and looks away.
"So, why do I keep calling and you kept ignoring me?"
"Hattie, calm down," Beatrice says softly.
" Oh fuck!" I raise my voice at her, "I'm not Hattie! My name is Jayde!"
"Hattie waits," James says, rushing in as if to prevent me from screaming and waking the whole neighborhood.
I turn to look at him, the pains of having someone disvirgin you against my wish flooding in. I will never forget what Mercy did to me.
"Don't ever call me that again! I'm no fucking Hattie Everett!" I scream again. The pains I felt finally seeping away and formed anger in me.
"Please, keep calm," he tried again, his eyes pleading.
I try to calm down, even though they didn't do anything or talk back to me. And that's strange.
I expect Mercy to flare up now and threaten me. She's so good at that. But today, it seems like a cat got her tongue.
"All I want is my one million dollars and I will be off here. I don't want to think about what I went through yesterday night. Just give me my money and I will be off," I say and look to Beatrice.
Seriously, something isn't right but I was too angry to reason it clearly.
"I don't believe what I'm hearing," a deep scaring voice says from within. The door opens and Hattie's father walks out.
My heart stopped breathing for a moment. What the fuck! Hattie's father was around?
OMG! That was why no one was able to talk back at me.
But where's Hattie? Isn't she back? And why do I have to feel so scared? I did nothing wrong.
And I was threatened into what I did. Besides, I had my share of the pain yesterday. It should have been Hattie in Henry's arm. Henry should have been inside Hattie and not me.
"Hattie?" The man's dark frown scares me and I look away.
"I'm not Hattie, I'm Jayde," I whisper but loud enough for everyone to hear.
Beatrice takes a step forward her husband, "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to."
"Wait what!' the man seems shocked to even form a sentence. He looks at me again, "Where's Hattie and why is there someone that looks like her?"
Beatrice sobs softly, Mercy and James look away sadly.
I look at them. Is something wrong? Is there something I don't know?
"Where's Hattie!" His loud, deep voice makes me shudder.
Beatrice also shudder slightly as she looks up at her husband again, "She's_shes_" she stammers and I wonder what is so hard for her to say.
She told me Hattie ran away probably because she didn't want to marry Henry.
Why is that difficult for her to say? Unless? That isn't true.
"Where's my daughter!" His voice isn't as scary as before. His expression has soften and the dark frown was gone.
Beatrice takes a deep breath and summon courage, "She's in the hospital."
What the fuck! In the hospital!?
