Not my business

Chapter twenty-eight
Jayde
I continue to stare, shock kept me motionless and speechless for a long time.
Hospital? What's she doing there? I mean isn't she accepted as a patient there?
Mercy let out a sigh, "She had a fatal accident the day you argued with her. She was coming to Beatrice's place when it happened."
" Davies, I'm so sorry I lied to you. I was so scared because the wedding day was so near. I didn't want to ruin the day," Beatrice beseech softly.
Now, I feel like Hattie is the victim here. I mean she was in the hospital and I thought she was somewhere enjoying her life.
I feel a surge of sadness pass through me suddenly. I thought I was the only one having a hard time. Now, I've spoilt it all.
I didn't know. I thought they didn't want to pick up my calls intentionally but they had to do so because Davies was around.
I let out a sigh and manage to look up at Davies's expressionless face. He slowly goes to sit while Beatrice is still standing and sobbing.
I feel instance need to soothe her and tell her everything will be ok.
"I brought up the idea, Beatrice had nothing to do with it. I just couldn't ruin the wedding," Mercy explains better.
James takes a step towards me, " And I informed Beatrice about Jayde. I met her at Paul's place. So, we decided to offer her some amount of money to help us."
" Why didn't you tell me!" Davies says pains etch his voice.
Mercy looks at me again, though this time she doesn't look so malicious. She takes her phone and goes through it. Then she looks up at me again, "I've just sent you one million dollars. The contract has ended, so you can go."
I stare at her for a while, then at Beatrice and Davies.
I bend my head slightly as the last respect for them before walking out of the house.
I don't have a phone now as I do make use of my mom's phone. And well, I have a debit card.
Well, I can finally live the life that I wish for! A luxury life at that. I plan to make my mom very comfortable. She would stop working her arse off.
She will only work whenever it's ok for her. I will work harder and save money to take huge care of her.
But what will happen to the marriage? What will happen to Henry and Hattie?
Well, that's not my business. The contract has finally ended.
I take a car home immediately. Mom isn't at work. She must have gone to work as usual.
Well, now that I'm back home. We can finally rest and reduce the workloads.
I walk inside my room and take my debit card. I need to withdraw some amount of money and make lunch at least.
Somehow, I couldn't stop myself from thinking about Hattie. Even after eating, I kept thinking about what would happen to Henry now that Hattie isn't around.
I mean she's in the hospital currently. Will her parents announce her health condition or will they lie that she's somewhere else?
Well, it would look bad if Hattie suddenly disappear on the second day of her wedding day. People will suspect something is off. Or why will a bride leave her honeymoon?
Or will they tell the world that Hattie had an accident? If they do, won't they tell the world about the bride of yesterday?
Damn! They should have exposed the secret before the marriage. I guess Henry's family is so wealthy that they are scared they might lose the opportunity of becoming their in-laws.
Wait, what if Hattie is in a coma? What if they don't even know when she will wake up?
Well, that is none of my business. I will just act like I know nothing about it all. I'm Jayde after all.
The knock on the door jerks me up. I walk to the door and smile at mom.
Mom watches me, surprised, "Jayde!" She pulls me into a tight hug. She's happy and I am too.
"I've made you lunch," I say to her after she pulled away."
Mom didn't say anything to me as she eat her food.
After she was done, she only appreciate me and retire to bed. I'm sure she's very tired today. We will be able to talk better tomorrow.
And like that, our lives will change.
Where should I work at? I mean I will need to continue working if I don't want this money to finish. The good thing is that I won't need to work myself tired like I used to do.
I take mom's phone and look through the credit alert of the one million dollar that Mercy gave me. Just looking at it is giving joy.
I'm going to get a new phone for mom and a nice one for myself.
I dropped the phone Mercy gave me, which means Henry won't be able to get to me.
Well, good for him. At least, he didn't want the marriage to happen in the first place.
My phone rings suddenly, the ringtone jerking me out of my thought. I look at the screen and my eyes widen I'm shocked. Why is Jayden calling me?
How did he get my mom's number?
Should I pick it or not?
Jeez, why am I so scared? I'm Jayde and not Hattie. I press the receiver and wait for an indication.
"Hi," Jayden's deep voice says.
I chuckle lightly, "Hi Jayden!"
"OMG! Are you alright?"
I blink once as if I couldn't quite comprehend what he just asked me.
"I'm alright."
"Oh, thank God. But why are they news of your disappearance? Everyone is talking about it already."
I blink again, " What are you talking about?"
" Hattie Everett has been kidnapped! That's the latest news. Everyone is looking for you!"
OMG! What? How? When?
What do I do?
