The woman in hood

Chapter thirty-seven
Henry
Wait! This is very confusing. I don't even understand what it's all about.
I mean why will Jayde be the one at the wedding party and not Hattie. And where the fuck is Hattie?
And why is Jayde suddenly gone?
I look at the picture of Jayde again and quickly make a mental comparison. These two look too much the same. There's nowhere I would have detected a difference.
Wait for a second, was it Jayde all along?
I remember when I saw her in the garden. She acted weird and different and that was the first time I noticed the change.
And then she kept talking about my marriage and I thought she was referring to us until I met her in the boutique. She looked surprised seeing me wearing a tuxedo as if she didn't know who I was.
I've been out of the country for a while and didn't go to clubs like how my friends do. So, she might not have recognized me.
Yes, I just remember another thing. The pieces are just coming together and finding their perfect position. That day, the second day I kissed Hattie, she was running away from Declan.
She knows and recognized him because Declan has shown interest in her.
That night, when she saw that it was Declan that banged at the door. She tried to hide her face not because she was embarrassed but because she didn't want Declan to see her.
Gosh! And the barman, Hattie will never stoop too low to hugging a local man. The least she can do for him was a handshake.
What am I saying? Hattie Everett is the most arrogant human being I have ever seen. She and Jayde are different.
Gosh, why didn't it clink earlier? Why? Jeez. I saw the red flags.
But why did she has to pretend to be someone she's not and why did she back out now?
Hattie must be somewhere and is not even coming out anytime soon.
I have to save my marriage and clear myself of these pending consequences with my father. She has already started the whole, she can as well just finish the role or till I get an insight into where Hattie Everett is.
"What are you thinking so hard about, lover boy," Rose says, suddenly jerking me out of my thoughts. I look up at her and smile.
Three ladies walk in with our orders.
"Do you know I just went and came back from deep thoughts?"
" What have you concluded on?"
I move my head nearer, " That the Lord is great, creating two people that look so much the same," I say instead of as I quickly debate and conclude I won't tell anyone about it.
If I start with Rose, there's no telling who I will tell next. And I will like to keep it a secret till I find the real Hattie.
"I think we should find the real Hattie on time so the poor girl can be free to walk without the face mask."
" But she doesn't use a face mask before, she just started," Rose argued softly.
I sip my wine, " It can be for any reason but I think I know what it might be. There is news about my missing bride. It's at this point that Hattie is popular. She might be worried people might think she's Hattie."
Rose nodded in agreement, " You are very right. We should enjoy this date right?"
I smile, and look at my food, " We should."
Because I only have a business in the night. Instead of asking Rose where Jayde lives, to avoid suspicion, I'm going to find out myself.
"I heard from Weston that he will be returning to state soon."
I nod briefly, " Yes and I pray he gets a girlfriend soon." OMG! That was a mistake.
Rose looks up at me and gives me a dirty glare, "Is that a curse or a blessing?"
Oh, I've forgotten Rose is having a deep crush on Weston. She has been having it for so long but Weston doesn't even seem to notice.
"When exactly will you help me?" She funnily squeezes her face.
I laugh, "Alright. There's a party next week. I will try my best towards your case. Also, be there in sexy wear. This one you are wearing like," I make a sound in my throat as I stare at the jean she's putting on. It will be a turn-off for him if she goes there wearing that.
And besides, Weston likes them sexy.
"I will," she says and continues to eat in silence.
I don't know if I should tell Declan about Jayde. But if I do, that will cause a lot of misunderstanding especially since Jayde is coming back to my house as my wife.
And she won't be staying long. I only need him to stand for Hattie till she's back or till I locate where she is. Then she can return to her normal life.
I drive straight to the club. I got there earlier and only the barman and the other girl is around, Jayde is still nowhere to be found.
I made myself comfortable as I order wines.
I look at Jayden. Somehow, something keeps telling me he knows Jayde as Hattie. That was why he stopped me from furthering my questions the other night.
Declan isn't in the club and I wonder why. Maybe it's because of Jayde. I mean for once, Declan is showing interest in a lady.
But I can't do that, I just pray it doesn't take more than two weeks. Then I will gladly let him know about her.
Just then, she walks in with that face mask on. Her face search around and rested on me for a while. Our gaze held and lock for some minutes before she starts walking away.
I watch her walk to Jayden and these two chat for a while. Jayde laughs shortly, pulling her black hair behind her ear.
I still find it difficult to believe these two look so much the same.
I look away quickly. I can't believe I kissed her. I can't believe I kissed her differently. I can't forget our kiss in the car. It would have led to something else if Declan hasn't come knocking on the door.
It can't be what I'm thinking of. It seriously can't be. I drink more of the wines and try to forget it all.
I watch the people walk out one after the other. I drink more while watching out for Jayde. I will get her location today.
After what seems like an eternity, I walk out of the club and lay hidden in my car. It takes a while before Jayde walks out.
She stays for a while outside the club while she waves down some cars. None stopped for a while. But eventually one slowed down and she entered.
I start the ignition and follow her behind slowly. Whenever the car takes a turn, I would follow until we arrive at an unfamiliar street.
The car pulls to a stop suddenly at a detached house. Damn! I don't believe some people still live here.
It shows how pooer people are.
Now that it has been confirmed, I will come back tomorrow morning.
I turn the car around and drive back to my house. I'm feeling sleepy already and I feel half-drunk.
I manage to take a quick shower before going to bed. I sleep off immediately.
I still haven't discovered who the spy is but I'm sure I will be able to do so after Hattie is back. I will watch out for whoever is going to announce the news in this house.
When I wake up, the first thing that comes to my mind is Hattie. I mean Jayde while she was pretending to be Hattie.
When I told her about our night together and how she reacted. Though, I still don't understand why she's always in my head.
I have to see Jayde today and bring her back to the house. I take a shower and put on one of my designer's wear. Blue jeans and a white hoodie. I wear a sneaker and a silver wristwatch.
I dab some perfumes on my body before walking out. The food is on the dining table already.
After eating, I drive straight into Jayde's street.
I arrive there quickly and look over at the detached house for a while before walking closer to the door.
I knock on the door once, then twice.
I can hear soft footsteps and then the door opens, "How may I_" she stops suddenly as she stares at me, with mouth opened in agape and eyes that have gone wider and darker with surprise.
I look at her for a while. She's not wearing a face mask now and I'm able to look at her face very well. And I must say, I can't even differentiate.
But should I call her Jayde or Hattie?
