The Truth is Bitter

Chapter fifty-nine
Henry
I drove straight to Mr. Everett's company, the moment I left Beatrice's place. I even saw Jayde on her way to her house. And I doubt she saw me.
I want to see Mr. Everett at work because he's the major cause of all this. He and my father are. If they hadn't wanted to seal their friendship with this marriage. Everyone would have been happy.
Well, it's all ok. I will tell him I want a divorce and his daughter initiated it.
I was ushered in immediately, as pertaining I'm his son-in-law.
"Hi Henry," Everett greets and gestures to the chair opposite him.
I smile and sit, "How is everything?"
He smiles, "Great. Why are you here?" He's focusing on some documents on the table. What he was doing when I walked in.
I cross my leg and stare at him for a while, "I'm here because of Hattie."
He looks up, "Did something happen?"
"I'm getting a divorce!" I watch his expression closely. The smile has suddenly evolved into a cute frown.
"Is this what you want to do? What you've planned to do from the beginning? You want to leave my daughter at the middle_"
" Middle of what?" I cut in sharply, my voice hard, " Middle of pain or middle of happiness? She initiated it." I smile, " She had no choice."
" Henry!" He screams, banging the table, " I will not have you disrespect me this way."
I raise a brow, skeptical, " Did I? I didn't even know," I smirk.
He picks up his phone, " I'm going to inform your father and tell him about all these atrocities! I know you don't love my daughter, you were forced into all this. Instead of embarrassing my daughter and me, I will tell your father," he presses some buttons.
" Is that a threat?" I say softly. He didn't reply to me and eased the phone closer to his ear instead, "No problem then. I will just let the world know who I got married to instead," I stand and turn around to walk out of the office.
" What did you just say?" Everett says behind me, "What are you talking about?"
I whirl around again and stare at him for a while. The phone is now on the table, "I got married to someone that isn't Hattie. Won't that make a piece of great news?" I laugh.
" What the fuck are you talking about?" He screams angrily.
"You want me to say it? Then I will!" I fire back, "You did know, didn't you that your daughter is on the sick bed and it's Jayde I've been bedding. I got married to low life and you dare scream at me."
His eyes went wider and darker with shock. His mouth open slightly, "How did you know?"
I sigh, "I want a divorce in three days. I've informed Beatrice also. If you don't want me to expose the truth to the public, you will also cover me up in front of my father. Do your best and I will keep my mouth seal," I bow slightly and walk out of his office.
I don't know what he was planning. He did something wrong and he's still trying so hard to hide it. So, should I stay still and be married to Jayde?
I should continue using that innocent girl? So, what if Hattie comes back today, won't Jayde have to leave?
Nonsense!
I drive back home, boiling in rage already. I didn't want to get angry. I wanted to settle it amicably but Everett is as thick-headed as my father.
They both have the same gene of making someone get angry unnecessarily.
I walk inside the living room and collapse on the chair. My heart is still making this hard noise and I can hear it.
Aside from that, I'm doing all this to help Jayde. She needs to get over me quickly. She needs to fall out of love.
Leaving with me will only improve the danger. She will find herself helplessly in love with me. At that time, it would be too late to go back.
Is she can't back out now. If she's unable to do it. I will help her.
The reason why I have her for three days is that tomorrow is my father's company anniversary and I must be there with Hattie.
So, the divorce can come back later. If it wasn't for the party, I would have made it today. We should get it done with already.
Had I known Jayde had started falling for me, I wouldn't have called her back. I would have let her be and just inform Beatrice that I'm aware. Then I can make them stage an accident and stop reporters from looking for her.
I close my eyes and try to stop myself from thinking about her. Gosh, I have been thinking about Jayde and not Hattie.
Somehow, I can't help but think about it. It seems like this decision wasn't made because of Jayde. It seems to be mainly because of me.
What will happen if I fall in love with Jayde?
Gosh! I wouldn't be able to go back. I won't be able to do it again. Gosh, that's scary.
I get up and walk inside my room. On second thought, I turn around and knock on Jayde's door slightly.
She didn't answer so I open the door and walk-in. She's not in here. The first thing my eyes go to is the bottle of champagne.
I walk into the bathroom and she's not there either.
Where did she go? And why is Jayde drinking alcohol? Is something I don't know happening?
I dial her number quickly. The phone starts ringing through my phone, only for it to ring aloud from the bed.
I turn around and look at Jayde's phone. I walk closer and pick it up.
My number is saved as Henry on her phone.
Where the fuck did she go without her phone.
I walk out of Jayde's room and ring the bell in the living room. I use the opportunity to check the kitchen but Jayde isn't there either. I don't even think she's in this house.
Within minutes, the maids walk in. I look at them for a while, "Where is my wife?"
"She went out," Regina says and looks up at me, "I saw her walk out of the house an hour ago."
I raise my brows and walk nearer, " She went out without her phone?"
" I don't know about that but I saw her enter your friend's car."
" My friend?"
She nods briefly, " Yes, Declan's car. And he drove off."
What the fuck! What's Declan doing?
" You are dismissed!" I say and hurry out of the house again.
Why can't Declan just let her be for now? She will be out soon and he can be free to see her as long as he wants.
But now, he's only going to stir news. What if the spy has already informed my father?
I drive out with spread into the street.
And why did he take her? Where did he take her to? And what are they even doing currently?
The thought of it makes me anxious and I hate it!
I won't let Declan disgrace me.
I pull off in front of his house quickly. My heart raced as I was allowed in.
I walk with fast strides towards the door.
"I was expecting you," a soft voice says behind me. I stop walking and turn to look at Declan.
He walks to me, "You are suddenly so fast, always coming and going out as if you own this house too," he laughs.
" I'm here for my wife!" I ignore his remark.
He watches me for a while, "Your wife isn't here," he looks away and sips from the wine he's holding.
"I know she's here. One of my maids saw you guys leave together."
He looks at me and chuckles, " So now you believe the word of a maid? More than your friend?"
I clear my throat meaningfully, " Where is she?"
" In the hospital."
My eyes widen on their own, "Hospital? Which one? What happened?"
"I don't know. You can ask Beatrice about it," he says and walks inside.
Beatrice? Regina said she saw them leave together. How then can he be referring me to Beatrice?
Is something I don't know happening to her? OMG! Is she hurt?
"Declan!" I call after him and enter the living room.
I stop unconsciously as I stare at Jayde on the bedding in the living room.
I look back at Declan, "I thought you said she's in the hospital."
He nods briefly which looks so annoying to me, "Yes she is. Here is Jayde and not Hattie. They may look alike but they are different."
What the fuck is he trying to do?
" What?" He laughs, "You are not even surprised. You must know about it already, don't you?"
" Where are you going with all this?" I ask as soft as I can.
" Wait," he goes to sit, " I understand it all now. You know about the truth the last time you came to my house. That was why you weren't anxious to find out what I wanted to say. And that was why you initiated the divorce?"
I sigh, " If you don't have much to say, I will take my wife," I turn around again.
" She's not your wife Henry, she's my girlfriend!" The statement forced me to a stop. I had to look at him again
I raise a brow, my heart hammer wildly in my chest, " Your girlfriend?"
I don't know what's so painful. The fact that I will be divorcing Jayde and she will finally be his or that he's already claiming her.
He nods briefly, "Your wife Hattie is in the hospital. And My girlfriend, Jayde, is here."
I form a fist beside me, angrily, " You have no right to claim her!" I yell at him.
He smirks, " And do you? Were you not planning to use her and toss her out just like you are trying to do now."
" How different am I from you?" I feel anger seep into my body.
" Yes, not so different because we both wanted to use the same woman."
I scoff, " I agreed to the divorce! How is that considered as using her?"
" Because you knew who she was before you brought her in, Henry. You knew everything and yet you didn't say a word. You took her in and told everyone that everything was alright."
"You left her to make the decision when you knew everything. If that wasn't using her, what was it called? Or is there another name we can use for it?"
What? I look at him. How did he know? How?
