Chapter forty-two

This feels good. I can't believe this got settled so quickly. Thank God I decided to track the girl that got Declan so obsessed.
I put a call through to my mom. She picks up immediately, "Hello," her tired voice did nothing to convince me if she was tired because of work or if she was tired of me.
I can't say she's not both. Since I'm an only child, I tend to give them a lot of headaches.
My dad can threaten to disown me but he wouldn't be able to do that. I'm his only legitimate son.
And well, his other illegitimate children are all daughters. So technically speaking, I'm still the only male child that he has.
And I think the main reason why mom agreed that this marriage should hold is that I haven't been able to provide my choice of a woman.
I'm almost thirty and I don't even have someone I love.
I envy Declan, he has fallen in love.
Well, he fell in love with the woman I got married to. This is so funny and I wonder what he would do if he discovers it.
Though, I've decided not to tell him about it. I'm going to keep it a secret. Even after Hattie is back, I won't tell a soul about it.
Though, I will be signing the divorce papers soon. With or without Hattie's consent.
I can't hurt myself because I want to please someone, it's not done in such away.
"Yes, Mom. Hattie is back."
"Really?" Her voice suddenly skyrocket, the tiredness lost from it, "How is she and where is she?"
"She's back at home and I went to get her myself."
" wow, I'm so proud of you," she says happily.
" And tell Dad this is he will let me come back to work."
She laughs, " You know your dad is always like that. But he only wants the best for you."
I scoff, " Just tell him that because I'm coming to work tomorrow."
" Alright dear," she hesitates and I can feel her smile, " Just be a good husband to your wife."
What's she talking about?
"Mom !" I call, shocked.
She laughs, "Alright!"
I smile before hanging up.
I'm sure there will be news already about her appearance. I'm just so happy. I can finally go to work.
Gosh, I've been feeling so lonely and useless lately.
I walk back into the living room. Jayde is not in here. Maybe she went upstairs into her bedroom.
It doesn't matter who the spy is. I won't share a room with a poor girl. Gosh, I don't believe I've been kissing someone that's not even my wife.
It's a different matter that I don't love Hattie but I will rather be with Hattie than be with Jayde.
But then, why do I feel like Hattie's family knows about this. I mean Jayde can't seriously put on the act without a backup.
Her backup must be someone in the family. Mercy? Beatrice or Everett himself.
But if they asked him to do it, doesn't that mean they know where Hattie is?
Or maybe they don't? And they didn't want to stop the wedding party. Maybe that was why they had to hire Jayde.
I am going to find out. Perhaps, it can give me a great reason to divorce Hattie.
But won't it be easier to confront Jayde now and make her tell me about everything?
Gosh, I don't know why I find that so difficult to do.
Oh wait, I have to be careful too. I still don't know who the spy is.
My phone rings suddenly, its sound jerking me out of my thought.
I shudder unconsciously, regaining my stability.
I look at the screen and it's my dad.
OMG! I don't believe this is happening so quickly. He's probably calling to tell me to resume work tomorrow.
I've missed work so much. I can't wait to get back.
I press the receiver and ease the phone closer to my ear, "Hello dad," I smile and take a seat.
With my legs crossed, I look at the images on the TV.
"Your mother called me just now to inform me Hattie is back home," his voice sounds the same. No excitement or happy sounds.
I wonder why he's so hard. No, I wonder how mom got married to him. Or maybe it was a contract marriage like mine.
Whatever!
"Yes, she's currently home."
"Ok, I will like a picture of her in your arm to confirm that."
I sit up unconsciously. Is he kidding me?
" Do you think I'm lying? Why will I lie with that kind of thing?"
"I didn't say anything. So, stop putting words into my mouth. Do it now!"
" Fine! No problem. I will send it now!" I scream at him before hanging up.
Gosh, I don't believe all this is happening to me.
I stand and strides towards Jayde's room. I open the door and my eyes went wide as I look at Jayde, naked.
