The Lawsuit
That night Kyle called me and we talked for over two hours, but it didn’t seem that long. Our conversation flowed so easily and there were never any awkward pause or moments. I learned a lot about him and his personal goals he was working towards. His father owned one of the largest cable and internet providers in the country, he will be working alongside his father when he graduates from college. Right before we said good night for the night he paused for a second then said “ can we meet up tomorrow? The weekend seems so far away, I can’t wait that long to see you again.” I was smiling from ear to ear after he asked me out and I happily said “ Yes” Tomorrow was Wednesday, so the weekend was not far away, but I liked the fact that he couldn’t wait that long to see me. I texted Lisa asking how her day was and she was more than happy to tell me that Thomas asked out on a real date just the two of them for Friday night. I couldn’t help but think the guys planned out their strategy about this dating thing. I foresee a lot of double dates in our future, which I am looking toward. We always have such a good time when we’re all together, it just makes sense. Since it is the beginning of our break, we have a lot of time to figure things out.
During our conversation I asked Lisa, “ Do you have any single aunts or cousins around my father’s age? I want him to start dating, so he won’t be lonely like my mom was before she died.” She was quiet for a moment and then she said “ I have an idea. Why don’t I have my mother host a party for all her single friends and invite the single ladies and men from the country club. This way it won’t look obvious to your dad when he gets his invitation. What do you think?” I started clapping my hands with excitement “ that is a great idea Lisa. When do you think your mom would be able to throw the party?” I asked her. “ Let me ask her and I will let you know tomorrow.” We said our goodnights and I was still excited about the possibility of him finding someone nice.
The next morning at breakfast I told dad that I changed my mind about going to campus for the summer. I told him I wanted to spend more time getting to know him and I was looking forward to doing more things with him. He was very happy to hear that and he gave me a big hug, thanking me for giving him a second chance. It was really a good feeling accepting each other, I can’t help but wish my mom was here to witness it. Plus, I am on a mission to find him a new wife. I will make sure to ask Kyle if he has any single women in his family that could also go to the party. The more options available the greater the chances of dad finding someone. My date with Kyle was later this afternoon, so dad and I were going to meet grandma for lunch. This will give me a chance to apologize and thank her for the gift she gave me. Maybe we can develop a better relationship after today. I am not going to hold out hope for the same result with old man Cole.
We had a nice lunch, but she had some not so good news about the marriage arrangement. “ Your grandfather is going to sue you, for refusing to marry Justin. He is claiming you broke a verbal contract with him and the Holloway family.” I burst out laughing so hard that people around us started staring at us. I honestly thought she was kidding, because that nonsense couldn’t be true. “ Mom, what are you talking about? There was no contract between dad and Kadian about this arranged marriage. She only found out about this stupid contract a week before she came home for her summer break. I was the one who mentioned the marriage arrangement to her. How could he even say something like that and is even going to sue her. Is he crazy?” Dad was visually upset with the news. At this point, there will be no going back after this for me and old man Cole. I looked at both of them and said “ I think you guys need to have a doctor declare him senile, because there is no way he is in his right mind.” I was no longer laughing, because none of this foolishness is funny anymore. Now it is getting down right ridiculous and I have had enough. “ I confronted him about it and we got into a huge argument and insisted that he will not break his promise to the Holloways. I don’t understand why he is making such a big deal out of this marriage arrangement.” grandma said while shaking her head.
