A New Start

We both went inside to the living room and dad followed behind us. We sat down and I introduced Kyle to Ethan and they shook hands and started talking. I excused myself and went to the kitchen to make coffee for them and tea for me. When I returned they were both laughing and I was happy to see that they were getting along. They made plans to play rocket ball at the club on Friday morning. After about an hour we all said our good night and Kyle went home. It was about two in the morning. I was getting sleepy and after I finished clearing up I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. The next morning I was awakened by the constant buzzing of my phone. I tried to ignore it, but it just kept buzzing. I looked at the clock on my bedside table and saw that it was after eleven. I really wanted to stay in bed, but I knew my phone would keep buzzing if I didn't answer it. I rolled out of bed and got into the shower hoping it would help wake me up.
After getting dressed I finally picked up my phone to see what all the buzzing was about. I had messages from Lisa, Kyle and dad. Kyle’s message “ Good morning, beautiful. Sorry I kept you out so late last night.” I was grining from ear to ear like a teenage girl. “Good morning handsome. I loved every minute of last night, so don’t apologize. I hope we can do it again soon” I responded. While waiting for his response I opened dad’s message “ Sweetheart I went to the office to clear up some things, I will be back by lunch.” He sent this message at eight this morning. “Okay” I texted him back. “Let’s meet at the restaurant around the corner from the building at twelve thirty in the” Great, I love the pizza at that restaurant. “ Okay dad, see you then.” I called Lisa to see what she was up to. “ Hey girl, what's with the crazy early morning text?” I asked her. “Kadian, first of all I wanted to tell you what my mother said about the party. Secondly I need you to go shopping with me, because I have nothing to wear on my date tomorrow with Thomas.” I started laughing at her “ what did your mother say? Also we just went shopping the other day, plus your closet is overflowing with new clothes. You need to just pick something from your closet. Do you know where you guys are going?” she was making these little whining sounds “ We are going to dinner and a movie, but I still need to look unforgettable. Do you realize how long I have dreamed about going on a date with him?” she didn’t give me a chance to reply before she shouted “ Forever! Also my mom said yes she will throw the party on the last Saturday of this month.”
I laughed a little louder and then said “ Fine, I will come over after lunch to help you pick something from your closet. Plus I have to tell you about my date with Kyle last night. We even ran into your BFF and her minion at the restaurant.” A ugh came out of the phone. “ You’re my BFF, so who are you talking about? Did you have too much to drink last night?” She was always funny when she was nervous. “ We only drank one glass of wine each silly. I was talking about Heather and Lena. They were coming into the restaurant when we were leaving. Heather and I bumped into each other and she put on her best fake innocent behavior trying to impress Kyle. She even tried to talk to Kyle, but he ignored her completely and walked out holding my hand.” Now there was her loud laughing coming out of the phone “ Serves that bitch right” she continued to laugh. We finished our conversion and I left the apartment to go meet dad. I was wondering if I should mention the party to him, but I decided against it. This way he won’t think I have anything to do with it and he will get his invitation like everyone else.
Dad was a few minutes late but it was fine. I was texting back and forth with Kyle to pass the time. We are going to spend the day together tomorrow at the country club with dad. I planned on beating both of them in rocket ball or tennis. “ What or should I say who is responsible for that big smile on your face?” I heard dad’s voice. I looked up and saw him almost at our table. I got up and gave him a hug and we both sat back down. After we placed our order dad said “ sweetheart, I resigned my position at the company this morning. I can’t just stand by and let him put all this pressure on you for his benefit and if I continue working there I would feel like I am betraying you.” Now what he said about clearing his office out makes sense. “I already lost a lot of time with you over the years and I will not repeat that mistake. You’re the most important person in the world to me sweetheart and I will protect you like I should’ve years ago.” There was guilt in his eyes again, but I also saw sincerity in his eyes as well.
