Our Wedding Day

“ Good morning wifey” was all I heard coming out of the phone and my eyes popped open and I screamed. The girls jumped up and were confused about what was going “ what's wrong? Why are you screaming?” asked Karen. I dropped my phone and yelled “ I am getting married today” they had this oh shit look on their faces “ shit! What time is it? Did we oversleep?” Lisa asked while jumping off the bed. I really didn’t know what time it was so I grabbed my phone off the bed to look at the time. That was when I remembered that Kyle had called me. “ Sweetie, are you still there?” I asked and heard him laughing at me through the phone. “ Yes I am still here, my love.” he said ‘my love’ and my heart just melted from those words.
“ Good morning hubby. Are you ready to make me your wife?” I had this stupid grin on my face when I asked him those questions. “ I have been up all night counting down the minutes, baby. I couldn’t get you out of my mind. All I could think about is you and how happy you make me. I missed holding you in my arms last night, so I couldn’t sleep. So yes, I am more than ready to marry you Kadian Hayes." He is so sweet. “ I love you Kyle.” The girls were sitting on the bed giggling and pointing at me. “ I love you too baby. I will see you soon.” I looked at the time after we ended our call and it was only six thirty in the morning. This will give us some time to shower and get some breakfast before the hair and make-up stylists show up.
When we opened the room door, Mrs Grant and Melissa were just about to knock on the door. It was around seven thirty and they wanted to make sure we were up. We all went downstairs to get some breakfast. When we sat down at our table Mrs Grant said “ I had breakfast sent up for the boys, that way you won’t accidentally run into Kyle before the wedding. She really is a stickler for traditions. I smiled and said “ Thanks, mom.” she gave me the biggest smile in return. She had asked me to call her mom six months after Kyle and started dating, but I never did. At first I felt calling her mom would be disrespecting my mother’s memory. After thinking about it and talking to dad about my concerns, I realized that no one can ever replace my mother. It still took me another year and a half to call her mom, better late than never. I am pleased that calling her mom just now made her so happy.
After breakfast the stylist team showed up and everyone got their hair and makeup done. I was the last to get styled, because that would give the girls a chance to go downstairs to check the end result of the wedding decor. We only had two wedding colors: soft yellow and white. Since the ceremony will be outside on the cliff side balcony I wanted the walls to be covered in white orchids which are my favorite flowers. The wedding arche will be decorated in yellow roses and white orchids. The chairs will be white with yellow sheer sashes. The walkway will be covered in orchids and rose petals. I was really happy that the balcony could hold all our guests comfortably. The reception will be in the hotel's ballroom. The color scheme will be the same as the ceremonies.
When everyone left me in the room to go check the decor it was around ten thirty. My hair and make was already done, all I needed to do was put on my wedding dress with my accessories. I was glad for this moment of peace and quiet. I used that time to have a conversation with my mother, while trying to remember her smile. It has been getting harder to remember her smile without looking at a picture of her. I miss her smell and how she made me feel when she hugged me. While I was lost in my own mind there was a knock at the door. “ It’s open I said” the door opened and it was my grandmother and aunt. Seeing them at the door made me smile. They came in and sat next to me on the bed “ You look so much like your mother sweetheart. I know she would be so proud of the woman you have become. You’re smart and beautiful just like her.” my grandmother said while holding my hands.
I was trying my best not to cry, because I didn’t want to mess up my makeup. “ You’ve found a good man that loves and cherishes you. I am so proud of the strength and resilience you have shown over the years after losing your mother. Please don’t ever let anyone steal that from you.” I swear my grandmother wants me to mess up my make-up. My eyes are full of tears trying to let loose, but I kept looking up to prevent them from falling. “ Even though I love and respect Kyle If he ever hurts you, you will let us know.” said my aunt with a serious as hell look on her face. If Kyle knows what is good for him, he will never hurt me in any way. My aunt looks like she will skin him alive. She does own and operate a farm back in Jamaica. I gave them both a group hug and said “ I love you guys so much and I am really happy that you’re here with me.
When they left my room Lisa and Karen came back to help me get dressed. They said that everything looked perfect and that I am going to love it. I know they wouldn’t lie to me, so I'm even more excited to get the show on the road. After putting on my one of a kind wedding dress that was designed by my best friend Lisa, I looked into the mirror and started crying. After I was trying so hard not to, I ended up crying anyway. They helped me wipe my tears away with tissue without messing up my make-up. After I calmed down I started smiling again. It is eleven thirty now and the ceremony starts at noon. The girls were in the room talking about their honeymoon when someone knocked on my door. Lisa opened it and it was dad and grandma Bernice. The girl left and dad and grandma came into the room. They both hugged me and told me how beautiful I looked. Grandma gave me something old and then dad gave me something new.
