Instead old man Cole’s lawyer started talking. “ When you were born, your grandfather received a dowry of ten million dollars from Daniel Holloway” before he could say another word he was cut by dad. “ How is that possible? He only found out about her when she was nine.” Then we all looked at old man Cole. He had this defiant look on his face, like a child. The lawyer continued “ Mr Hayes had an investigator following Ethan Hayes after Ethan’s wife told Mr Cole Hayes that Ethan moved out of their marital home.” Now dad was the one fuming and grandma was shaking her head in disbelief. Honestly I don’t know why they’re shocked about the things this man is capable of doing. Or what lengths he would go to get what he wanted. He is a little snake that will do whatever he has to to get his way. Kyle was also shocked at the news, but him being shocked is understandable.
Poor thing, he is not used to these kinds of dysfunctional families.“ The marriage contract states if either party fails to fulfill their part of the contract that party will forfeit twenty percent of their shares in the company.” I rolled my eyes at the old man and said “ Hold your horses. Are you telling me that he knew about me all this time and he never acknowledged me or my mother?” I wonder if he thinks that after finding out this information I would change my mind and help him? Amazing! I looked at the lawyer and said, “Again I still don’t see what any of this has to do with me. Even if both of my parents had signed that contract, it still would not have anything to do with me.” I did not stop looking at the old man while I said my peace. “ You’re such an insolent child” said the old fart. “ Dad, have you known about Kadian all this time? Why didn’t you ask me to bring her home? Was it because that lying cheating bitch Vanessa wasn’t her mother? Would you have rather I stayed with a woman that was cheating and lying to me than someone who was honest and loving? All these years I knew you were a heartless bastard, but this takes the cake.” the old man just made a dismissive sound with his nose and mouth.
The lawyer cleared his throat to get our attention back. “ The contract also stated that after the wedding ceremony, Ms Kadian Hayes will receive five percent shares from the Holloways. After ten years of marriage Justin Holloway will take over the company as its only CEO.” Maybe it's just me, but I have yet to see what any of this has to do with me. “ The issue is that both Mr Hayes and Mr Holloway made a bet with one of their business acquaintances about the completion of the marriage contract.” Now everyone at the table was looking at the two old men. It seems that no one else knew about this bet, by the look on their faces. Now I am dying to hear the details of this bet, it should be epic knowing these two. “They bet forty percent of their shares that the marriage would take place without any issues.”
I burst out laughing so loud that Kyle looked at me with concern in his eyes. Now everyone around the table was talking at the same time and I was still laughing with my head thrown back on the back of the chair. I mean honestly how could they not find this funny? Two old men not knowing what the future holds bet their lives, work and families lively hood on something so stupid. “ Ladies and gentlemen, please calm down.” the poor lawyer trying to get control of the room again. He is going to earn his money today, because the room is in chaos. Chase finally opened his mouth and said “ what the fuck is he talking about dad?” Even Ms Holloway was talking and she looked very upset. “ watch your mouth boy” was old man Holloway’s response to Chase's question. This is better than prime time tv, because I could make this shit up. After the lawyer cleared his throat a few more times everyone quieted down.
I still had a big ass grin on my face. Those two old farts are unbelievable, they actually think that they had so much power over their families, that we would just do whatever they said. “ Now ladies and gentlemen, do you see the problem we’re facing?” Everyone in the room looked pissed off except me. In my eyes this is still not my problem. “ Do you see why the marriage must proceed, Ms Hayes?” he asked me and I gladly replied “ No. This still has nothing to do with me. The only thing I know for sure is that those two fools are crazy and should be declared senile.” I made sure I pointed my finger at both of them. “ So, you’re willing to lose twenty percent of our company shares to a stranger? That will only leave me with thirty percent, we built this company from the ground up and you’re willing to give it away just like that?”
