Unwanted Guests
When we got back to the house we heard music playing and voices. Kyle grunt and stormed into the house. I looked at Lisa and we all followed behind him. He went straight to the back yard where there were about six people in the pool splashing around. “ All of you get out of the pool, pack your shit and leave right now.” The look on his face was scary. I was wondering who all these people were and just then one of the girls spoke. “ I am not leaving, the house is big enough for all of us to stay.” She stood on the side of the pool with her hands on her hips. “ I am not going to tell you again Mel. You can come back after our week is over, but you will not be staying here this week.” She stomped her feet, like a child and said “ I am going to call mom and dad, because this is not fair. Why can’t we stay here together?” It makes sense now, she is his younger sister Melissa. “ Hi Melissa,” said Thomas. “ You don’t have to greet her, she is leaving. All of you get out of my pool and out of my house now.” Kyle softly yelled.
Melissa took up her phone and dialed a number, we all knew it was their parents number. She put the phone on speaker, after two rings someone answered the call. She did not give the person the opportunity to say hello, before she started talking a hundred miles per hour. “ Kyle is refusing to let me and friends stay at the house with him and his friends. It is not fair, why do I have to leave? It’s my house too, he has no right to kick me out." She was playing the innocent role. “ Sweetheart, calm down. You knew that your brother already said he would be at the house this week and he wanted the house all to himself. Why did you go there with your friends?” asked a male voice. But Melissa refused to give in. “ Where is mom? I want to talk to mom, because you always pick his side.” Kyle rolled his eyes at her words. He looked at her friends and asked “ Why aren’t you getting your shit?” Melissa screamed “ Why are you embarrassing me in front of my friends? The house can hold all of us, plus Lisa’s family house is four houses down the beach. You guys can just go there instead.” She complained.
There was silence for a few seconds and then we all heard a female voice come out of the phone “ Melissa Grant! You and your friends leave right now and don’t let hear one more thing about this. Do you understand me?” yelled their mother. “ Yes, mother” she said with a very soft voice and the call ended. She looked at Kyle with pleading eyes, but he walked back into the house. After a few seconds I followed him into the house, he was heading to his room. I didn’t stop him, I just followed him. Once we were inside I gave him a hug and a kiss. We sat by the window enjoying the view and ocean breeze, while holding each other. “ If we double up the rooms, she and her friends could stay.” I said to him, he smiled and kissed me on the head. “ She needs to leave. She always gets her way and she needs to learn boundaries. She knew I would be here all of this week and I needed privacy. I had a family meeting and I told them that I would be spending time with the woman I planned to marry. No one was allowed to come here during this time, but she always made everything about her.” I understand what he was saying, so I didn’t push the issue any further. I was smiling inside at the fact that he told his family he was going to marry me. Saying it to me while we’re playing around is one thing, but telling his family is on another level.
Around six Mark’s and his girlfriend showed up for dinner. His girlfriend was very friendly and soft spoken. They make a really nice couple and they look like they're so in love with each other. Thomas pulled Mark aside with two beers so they could talk in private. Lisa was trying to hide her nervousness, but I could see it all over her body. I gave her a hug and said, “ I promise that Mark will be happy that Thomas loves you, because he knows Thomas is a great guy that will take care of your heart.” she giggled like a little girl. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t an only child, because of bonding moments like this. Having a sibling that loves you and would protect you at all cost, is special. We kept looking in Mark’s and Thomas' direction to see if we could gauge their moods from their body language. We went inside to check on pasta and dessert, when we came back out they were hugging and laughing. That told Lisa everything she needed to know. She took off running and jumped on Mark which landed both of them in the pool. The rest of us started laughing.
