A New Path

The day after I received my acceptance letter, I told dad about me transferring to New York University and he was also very happy. He thought it was an excellent idea and was happy that we would be spending more time together. I told him that Kyle wanted me to move in with him. But I explained to him that I will live with both of them during the week. This way they both get to share me equally. He laughed at me as usual, probably thinking I was out of my mind. During our conversation he told me he would love for me to meet Elizabeth, so we could get to know each other. I am guessing their relationship is getting serious, if he wants me to meet her. We are meeting grandma for dinner tomorrow night and he invited Elizabeth to come as well.
That night I spent the night with Kyle and as usual we made love and talked about what kind of wedding I wanted. He was so dedicated to making sure I would get the perfect wedding of my dreams. He created a wedding diary on his tablet, so we could write down all our ideas for the wedding. We had a section for each part of the wedding process. We even had a page that listed possible places we would like to have the ceremony. We even threw out the idea of having a destination wedding and that brought on a whole nother set of ideas. The good news is that since I don’t graduate for two more years, we have a lot of time to narrow down our ideas.
After breakfast the next morning we went to Coney Island to spend the day with the other guys. I love Nathan's hot dogs and cheese fries on the boardwalk. We went on a few rides and just spent the day goofing off. This has been my best summer vacation since my mom died and I am loving every minute of it. Over the last few weeks we have not seen or heard anything about Heather and everything was so peaceful. Not having that stalker following us around the city has become our new normal and I for one is enjoying this peace. We left Coney Island around five, because I had to get back and get ready for dinner with my family. Since Kyle didn’t have any plans for the night I invited him to come along. I was glad he accepted my invitation, because I will need someone to talk to just in case I don’t like Elizabeth. I know it is a terrible way to think, but I can’t be too careful after the kind of rich people I met this summer.
Kyle and I got dressed at his apartment and we would meet everyone else at the restaurant at seven thirty. Kyle made sure we left the apartment on time, so that we wouldn’t be late. Bless his heart, I was always late for some reason. When we got to the restaurant dad and Elizabeth were already sitting at the table. From a distance we could see that she was a very beautiful lady. Grandma was not there yet. We walked over to the table, Kyle pulled out a chair for me to sit. Dad greeted us and then he introduced us to Elizabeth. From the way she spoke we could tell that she had a strong personality. She spoke with confidence, but she was still humble. She was divorced, but she had no children of her own. Even though she was a self made millionaire, she showed no arrogance or self- importance. That gave her a thumbs up in my book, so far. She asked me about school and my future goals and she seems genuinely interested in getting to know me. I appreciate that she was putting out the effort and I returned her kindness.
After a few minutes grandma arrived smiling and apologizing for being late. She sat down and dad introduced her to Elizabeth. We had a good time eating and getting to know each other better. During the meal I texted my dad with my phone under the table “I like her.” When his phone buzzed, he pulled it out of his pocket and looked at the screen and smiled. I knew it was important to him for me to like her. Especially since our relationship has just started to flourish. I am glad that she turned out to be a good person, because I was the one who has been pushing him to start dating. It would have been terrible if I disliked the person he chose to be with. I am happy everything worked out well, even grandma seems to like her.
The last week in August the guys told us that one of their friends from high school was getting engaged and we were all invited to the party. I called Lisa after Kyle told me about it “ hey girl, do you know which of their friends are getting engaged? I wanted to get them a present, but I don’t know what to get.” she was silent for a few seconds “ I wasn’t focused on that when Thomas told me. I was busy picturing the kind of dress I was going to wear.” see what I mean? Her head is all wrapped up in fashion. “ I will ask Thomas later when I see him for our date.” We spoke for a few more minutes before ending our call.
