The Ceremony
Grandma left to go join the other guests downstairs and left me and dad alone in the room. It was almost time and for some strange reason I was a little nervous. “ Dad, why am I so nervous? I’ve been looking forward to this day for over two years. I shouldn’t be nervous.” Dad took one of my hands and said “ sweety, it is normal for a bride to be nervous on her wedding day. If you weren’t nervous I would be worried. This day signifies a new journey in your life, where it won’t be just you anymore it is the joining of you and Kyle’s life. It is a very huge important step and you should be a little nervous. Being nervous just shows how important this day is to you.” Why does he have to make sense right now? Right then there was another knock and it was Lisa telling us that it was time.
When dad and I got out of the elevator downstairs we could hear the melody of the song we chose for me to walk down the aisle to. Lisa let everyone know we were ready and the song itself started playing and everyone stood up. The bridesmaids and the groomsmen started walking down the aisle and they looked so beautiful in their outfits. Finally it is time for me to meet my husband down the aisle. The moment Kyle's eyes landed on me, he started crying when he saw me in my wedding dress. Lisa outdone herself with my dress, she made me the most beautiful bride ever. Kyle’s reaction when he first saw me walking towards him made me smile and cried at the same time. Everything around us seemed to have disappeared. All we were focused on is each other. I finally got to him and he said “ you’re perfect.” We had written our own vows and we both had tears in our eyes when we were reciting them to each other. Now I fully understand when people say a girl's wedding day is the most important day of her life. This whole experience made me fall more in love with Kyle and we will never let anyone take our love and happiness away from us.
The reception was just as perfect as the ceremony. There was lots of dancing, laughing and kissing. The night was perfect and everybody had a great time and we couldn’t have been any happier than we were right then. Kyle and I left the reception around nine thirty, because our flight to Bali will be leaving at midnight. When we left the hotel the party was still going strong. We could keep our hands off each other in the back of the car heading to the airport. We made it to the airport an hour before the flight was supposed to leave. That gave us plenty of time to check in and go to our gate. It was a long flight, but flying first class made it tolerable. When we landed in Bali it was the following afternoon. The country was so beautiful and it was so strange how the air and sunshine there was different from Greece.
It was the most romantic ten days of my life. I would be very surprised if I am not pregnant when we get back home. It was as if we couldn’t get enough of each other during those ten days. Some days we didn’t leave our room and would have nothing but room service. When our ten days were over we didn’t want to leave. But, reality calls and we had to go back to our lives in New York. The last time we spoke to our families was the day we landed in Bali and that was just to tell them we made it there safely. When we ended the call, we turned off our phones. If there were any kind of emergency our families knew what hotel we were staying at. Thankfully there were no emergencies, so no one disturbed us. The flight going back home will be even longer than when we came here from Greece.
I have had a wonderful time over the last fourteen days, but I am ready to get home. I miss home and our day to day life. I can hardly believe that I am Mrs Grant, just thinking about it puts a smile on my face. We finally made it back to New York and we were really tired and jet lagged. Kyle didn’t have to go back to work until the following Monday, so that gave us five days to relax at home. That first night back we slept about thirteen hours, but it felt so good to sleep in our own bed. When we woke up we ordered take out and started watching television waiting for our food to be delivered. We finally turned our phones back on and they both buzzed for about fifteen minutes straight. All the calls and messages that we received in the last two weeks started popping up. The buzzing got so bad that we silenced the phones until they were updating everything.
Our food showed up and we dove in like two starving people stuck on a remote island. I don’t know if it's just me, but no matter how delicious the food you eat on vacation is, there is nothing like the food we have back in the city. After we finished eating we went for a short walk around our block. I love walking at night in the city, it always gave me this sense of belonging. The rest of the night was relaxing and we went to bed early, still feeling a little tired. The next morning we went shopping at the supermarket, acting like the typical newlyweds. While we were picking out fresh fruits and talking about the tropical fresh fruits we ate in Bali, we heard the voice of the bane of our existence.
