Chapter 47
Leandre decided to go home after speaking with the security guard. But, as he was driving, he called Emerald to see where she was.
"Where are you?" he asked.
"We waited for you at home," Emerald said on the other end of the line.
"All right, I'm going home," Leandre said, putting his phone back in his pocket.
He was outside the house an hour later, waiting for the family. And he noticed that only Emerald, Cheska, and mother Lucille was leaving. So he rolled down his window.
"Just the four of us?" Leandre asked.
"No, they were already there and went first because Geo was too excited to bathe in the sea. I thought you wouldn't come with me, but Cheska said you should come next, so we just waited for you because I don't want to drive a car." Emerald replied.
So when they boarded, Leandre didn't ask any more questions. He drove away from the scene. Nicholas didn't even tell him he was going to join them, indicating that this friend of his is too advanced for such gatherings. He won't know the location until they meet.
Days, months, and years have passed in Alondra's life, but everything that has happened to her feels as if it happened yesterday. She considered going home with them before her stomach grew into a year. Garret never left her side after she gave birth to a baby girl.
From the time she was pregnant until her belly grew, he was there for her every step of the way. This is what she turned to when she was upset about the pregnancy and missed her parents.
She is now a full-fledged doctor, which she had long desired, but her parents and sister, Mathilde, were unaware because they assumed she was only working in the city. For Alondra, the reason she came to the world was to see her baby girl. Even though giving birth is difficult, it is worthwhile when she sees her child sleeping in the crib. She gained the courage to face childbirth and pregnancy, but she was still afraid to tell her parents that they had a grandchild. Garret tried to stop her from applying to the hospital because he wanted her to be a full-time mother to their child.
Garret was accepted as Princess Shania's father, which Alondra did not object to because her sacrifices were no laughing matter. He had sleepless nights because he was more involved in the baby's care than she was.
She is perplexed as to why he hasn't found a girlfriend or married until now. But she chose not to inquire. Even though she could afford to buy a house, she chose to stay with Garret because she had grown to be his friend and sympathizer throughout her life.
She has been at home since giving birth and has not been able to visit the boutique because she has made Harley the manager and has also added other staff because her boutique is growing Garret has also built a restaurant named Shania.
And she remembered Yohan, who was still working with her, and how he always brought her fruit and food from their farm as a thank you for her assistance.
His life has improved now that he has built a house for his parents and purchased a nice car, for which he and the rest of her first staff were grateful. So they don't want to leave her, so Alondra is grateful that she is surrounded by people who adore her. So she's going to see her parents this month because she hasn't seen them in a long time. They communicate via phone calls, but they also meet in different ways. Despite having difficulty achieving her goal, she was successful. It's not a joke that her sacrifice was that she underwent training and online classes while pregnant just so she could finish. It's a good thing she passed the bar exam.
So all she has to do now is thank Garret for not abandoning her. So, whatever happens, she will not leave this man until he finds a woman for whom he can care more. They didn't even become lovers, and no other feelings arose within a year, but she thought of him as a brother because he was such a nice person.
She is currently in the living room with baby Shania. They were still waiting for Garret, who had not returned home. At this house, it's usually around five o'clock in the afternoon. And Garret did not call her if he can go home late. She has finished breastfeeding Shania and is now sleeping soundly in her crib. She went out to open the gate when she heard it ring and saw Garret stagger inside, who she knew was very drunk. So she led him inside and placed him on the couch.
"Oh my, Alondra. I'm wasted. We made new friends so I got drunk. How's my baby? Didn't she fall asleep waiting for me?" he asked as he was about to get up and take Shania inside the crib but Alondra managed to stop him.
"Go to sleep. Don't disturb the baby who was sleeping earlier. Why did you get so drunk? It's good that you got home safely and didn't crash." answered Alondra.
"I will not die because there is a reason why I lived. I love your daughter Alondra so much that I can take care of myself." Garrett said.
Even though she was annoyed because she had just seen him drunk, Alondra just smiled. She removed his shoes and socks and changed into clean pajamas and a t-shirt. In addition, pillows and blankets were brought to the living room. She frowned as she dressed Garret slowly. He is her lifelong best friend, so there is no malice in her attire. She turned on the air conditioning and pushed the crib into the room near the living room when she noticed Garret was sleeping too much. She didn't go upstairs to the nursery because she was too tired. Because she is going home to the province tomorrow and will let Garret know if he will agree.
The next day, Alondra prepares the items she brought with her to her parent's house in the province. She finished bathing and breastfeeding Shania. Perhaps she won't cry without her. She had only been there a few days. She didn't want to leave her baby, but she had no choice because she wasn't ready to tell her parents she was pregnant.
She placed Shania in the crib and the living room while she waited for Garret, who was sound asleep on the couch. He was too drunk for her to know what he drank. She prepared breakfast for them both. She heard Garret singing in the living room a few minutes later.
Perhaps he is carrying Shania. So Alondra emerged from the kitchen and approached them. Garret danced with her baby while carrying it. Alondra smiled as she looked at them.
"Good morning. Doesn't baby complain about your smell?" Alondra asked with a laugh.
Garret shook his head but didn't stop dancing.
"She likes to dance, so when she grows up, she will see that she loves me more because you don't know how to dance," Garret said causing Alondra to frown.
"I can't deny that baby loves you more than me who brought her into the world. Even though she's still small, I can see that you're her favorite." Alondra replied smiling.
"Yeah. Even if I'm too tired from work, I'm relieved when I see her smile."
"Yes. Take a shower first and we'll eat." Alondra said.
"Okay."
She took Shania first so that Garret could take a bath and she brought her to the kitchen. After some time they were at the table eating.
"I'm going home. And I'll leave Shania with you first. Is that okay?" Alondra asked.
"Sure. How many days will you be there?"
"Ten days. And then I prepared everything she will use including milk because I can't breastfeed her," answered Alondra.
"Okay. When are you leaving?"
"I hope it's now. But how about your work?" Alondra asked while eating.
"Someone will replace me if I have to watch over Shania," Garret replied.
Alondra held Garret's hand.
"I'm sorry because you still felt my life's flaws," Alondra said.
"Everything will be fine; you can count on me at any time; I adore this baby of yours; even if you are gone for a few months, you can count on me to properly care for her," Garrett responded.
"Thank you so much, Garret; I owe you everything."
"Don't even think about it. Just go ahead and get ready to leave," he said.
So, after eating, Alondra went upstairs to get dressed and gather her belongings. Even though she was nervous about being separated from her baby, she knew she had to do it even if it meant becoming weak.
She was outside the house a few minutes later, waiting for a ride to the terminal, with Garret by her side carrying Shania.
She kissed her baby's cheek to make sure she didn't miss her too much. Alondra was about to cry, but she stopped herself. When someone stopped in front of her, she got into that taxi. She even waved goodbye to Garret after the taxi drove away. She was bitterly smiling because she had been selfish.
Leandre had the right to know that he had a child with her, but she didn't want things to get worse. The taxi is moving, but Alondra's thoughts are on Shania. But, because she chose to hide it from her parents, he may grow accustomed to it in time. She arrived at the terminal, and the driver assisted her with her luggage.
And Alondra is overjoyed that her parents won't realize she had a baby because she hasn't gained any weight. She sat at the far end, near the window. She only had to wait a few minutes before the bus arrived. Alondra could feel the cold air like she did when she was new in town and went home to them. The same feeling and essence, but she is now more nervous when she returns home because nothing is the same as before and a lot has changed.
