"Justice and judgment lie often a world apart."

Lara arrived in the courtroom in a black and white hospital uniform. She sighted Lisa sitting alone and walked to where she sat. "Hey Lisa, "Lara greeted and sat beside her.
Lisa stared closely at Lara to make sure she was not seeing a ghost.
"What are you doing here?"Lisa questioned as she continues staring at Lara.
"I could not miss today because it is Kemisola first trial"Lara replied and looked around the courtroom probably searching for someone
"The boss is over there "Lisa pointed to where Jeremy was sitting.
"Who is the prosecutor?"Lara asked.
Lisa pointed to where the prosecutor kyle falana was sitting.
"He is the prosecutor?"Lara inquired and Lisa nodded. "Oh my goodness! That is kyle falana and he is very good at solving cases."
"My boss is also great at revealing the truth" Lisa replied with a smile on her face.
Lara realized what she said and tried to tell Lisa not to misunderstood her but then, the judge had arrived.
"All rise," the bailiff said as judge Leonard entered. "Department two of the superior court is now in session, "he announced and then continued, "judge Leonard presiding. Please be seated."
Everyone in the courtroom sat down. The people in the court were not up to twenty including the court reporter that was allowed into the courtroom.
The feathers were not present for the trial. It seems they were not interested because they believe they would win.?
Leonard looked up from his seat and looked around for Jeremy. When their eyes met, Leonard smiled at him. A wicked smile.
"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen" he greeted. "Calling the case of Sola's murder versus Kemisola. Are both sides ready?"Leonard asked.
Kyle falana stood up with confidence, he was sitting opposite Jeremy at the prosecutor's side.
"Ready, your honor"
"Ready for defense, your honor. "Jeremy also replies.
"Will the clerk please swear in the jury?"Leonard requested.
The clerk, a young woman who looked to be in her late twenties stood up from where she was seating and walk to the jury stand.
"Will the jury please stand and raise your right hand? "The clerk instructed and the jurors did as told.
The jurors were a group of ten people, five women, and five men.
"Do each of you swear that you will fairly try the case before this court and that you will return a true verdict according to the evidence and instructions of the court, so help you, God? Please say I do"
"I do"the jurors chorused.
"You may be seated, "the clerk instructed. They all sat down and she went back to her seat.
"Can we have your opening statement?"Leonard requested.
Kyle Falana stood up again and face the jury.
"Your honor and ladies and gentleman of the jury. The defendant had been charged with a case of murder and when found guilty in September 2015, she was sentenced to jail for fifteen years. The evidence I present will prove to you that the attendant is guilty as charged" when kyle finished talking, he sat down.
Jeremy proceeded to stand up and face the jury. "Your honor and ladies and gentleman of the jury. Under the law, my client is presumed innocent. Five years ago, my client was defamed and charged to court for a crime she didn't commit. During this trial, you will come to know the truth that Kemisola was indeed framed for murder. Kemisola got to the scene of the crime and before she could speak, she was arrested and sentenced. Therefore, my client is not guilty."Jeremy spoke with confidence and when he was done, he sat down.
Kemisola sat beside Jeremy in a green prison uniform, both her hands were chained like a hardened criminal.
"The prosecutor may call it first witness, "Leonard requested.
"The prosecutor calls the arresting officer," kyle said.
The bailiff took an old stout mam to the witness stand. The clerk walked to him and made him swear an oath.
"So help you, God?"
"I do, "the old man replied.
"Please state your first name and last name, "the clerk requested.
"David Ayeola"
"You may be seated"the clerk instructed and walked back to her seat.
The court reporter walked to the witness and requested for him to spell his last. When he was done, the reporter left the witness.
Kyle stood up and walked close to the witness stand. "Inspector David, where do you work?"
"I was once?an inspector at LGPD but now, I am retired."
"When did you retire?" kyle questioned.?
"Three years ago"
"Where were you on the night of September 25th, 2015?" kyle faced him while asking the question.
"I was patrolling the street around land road when I was called for a murder report, "the old man explained.
"Where was that?"
"The old mansion of Lordon, "the old man replied.
Jeremy stares closely at the man and from looking at him, Jeremy knew that he was lying.
"Can you explain what you saw when you for the scene?"
"Yes sir. I saw her, "he pointed at Kemisola. "I saw her hitting the deceased with a stick repeatedly on the head."
Kemisola gasped at what the old man revealed. "Why was he lying?" she thought as their eyes met. Kemisola gave the old man cold stares, she never forgot the man's face because it was he who arrested her five years ago.
"Very well then, we do not need to drag this case for long because he saw her killing the deceased. Thank you, I have no further questions." kyle said and went back to his seat.
"Does the defense have any questions? "Leonard asked Jeremy.
"Yes, your honor. May I proceed?"
"You may, "Leonard replied.
Jeremy walked to the witness stand, he faced the man and smiled at him.
"When you saw Kemisola hitting the deceased head, what did you do? "Jeremy questioned the old man who trembled where he was seating.
"Objection! Your honor" kyle stood up.?
"Objection sustained, "Leonard said and hit the gravel.
"I--did--"the old man's lips trembled as he struggled to find his words. "I met her at the scene. I didn't see her."
"If I may recall Mr. David, that exactly what you said a few minutes ago" Jeremy stated and smiled at the old man who looked confused.
"Lying bastard, "Jeremy muttered under his breathe.
"Objection your honor" kyle stood up again.
"Objection sustained. Defendant, desist from asking such questions "Leonard warned and hit his gravel.
Jeremy ignored Leonard's warning and then asked the old man another question again.
"Did you or did not see Kemisola hitting the victim on the head?"
"Defendant, I am warning you"Leonard hit the gravel as a warning to Jeremy.
Jeremy smiled at the man and faced the judge.
"Thank you, your honor. I have no further questions."Jeremy bow and went back to his seat.
"What is he doing?"Lara whispered into Lisa's ear.
"It a secret our boss had mastered. Do not worry he knows what he is doing"Lisa whispered back.
"The witness is excused, "Leonard announced and hit the gravel. The bailiff escorted the old man out of the witness box. Kemisola stared at him as he walked out and when their eyes met, pain, anger was written clearly on Kemisola's face.
"The prosecutor may call the next witness, "Leonard requested.
"The prosecutor calls the witness at the scene," kyle requested.
"A witness at the scene?"Kemisola whispered to Jeremy. "I can swear on my life that there was no one around. They are lying."Kemisola lamented.?
Jeremy looked at her and fold her hand softly. "It going to be alright Kemi, "he assured her.?
The bailiff took the second witness who was a young woman to the witness stand.
"James. "Mary called, "what is going on here? Kemi didn't talk about a witness "
"That's because they are lying, "James spoke with anger in his tone.
"Order. "Leonard hit the gravel and the courtroom grew silent.
The clerk made the woman swear an oath and she did.
"state your first name and last name, "the clerk requested.
" miss Alia Joseph"
"You may be seated"the clerk instructed and walked back to her seat.
The court reporter requested the spelling of her last name. When they were done, kyle proceeded with his questions.
"Miss Alia. Where were you on the night of September 25, 2015" kyle questioned?
"I was walking home from work," she replied.
"What happened on your way back home?"
"I heard a scream at the old mansion of Lordon. I went to look at what happened because the mansion was an abandoned one. Then I saw her killing her friend."Alia pointed to Kemisola.
"What happened after then? "Kyle questioned.
"I called the police and they came and took her away, "the woman while looking at Kemisola.?
Kemisola stood up from her seat and slammed her hand on the desk, making a loud bang. "You are lying. There was no one inside the bush. You are lying! "Kemisola yelled at the woman.
"Order!"
"Kemisola sit down now or we will lose this case, "Jeremy whispered and pulled her back on the chair.
Kemisola calmed down and wipe the tears off her face. She was being cheated and she hated it.
When the courtroom was silent, Leonard continued. "You may proceed, prosecutor, "he said.
"No further questions, your honor." kyle bow and went back to his seat. He looked towards Jeremy and smirked at him.
"Does the defense wish to ask any questions?"Leonard asked.
"No your honor, "Jeremy replied while sticking to the plan of the justice.
"We present only the doctor's report for now because we do not have any tangible evidence yet."That was what Jeremy and the justice planned a day before the trial. He wanted them to adjourned the case so they could find more clues and evidence to bring down Hamilton's boys.
"The witness is excused, "Leonard ordered.
The bailiff took the young woman out of the witness stand.
"Does the prosecutor have any other witnesses?"
Kyle stood up and bow. "Yes, your honor. The prosecutor calls the doctor who performed the autopsy results on Sola's corpse."
The bailiff took a middle-aged man into the box where he was made to swear an oath, give out his name which was Dr john. When everything was done, john proceeded to ask his questions.
"Dr john. Where do you work?" kyle asked as he walked closer to the doctor.
"I am employed at molly's hospital. I've been working there for years now, "the doctor replied.
Kyle walked back to his desk and took a paper from his desk and showed it to the witness.
"Did you perform the autopsy test on sola?
"Yes I did, "the doctor nodded.
"What was the outcome of the test?" kyle questioned.
"The deceased death was as a result of bleeding out. She died after getting hit on the head, "the doctor folded his hand and replied.
"Were you able to identify the fingerprint of the defendant on Sola's corpse?" kyle asked.
"Yes"
Kyle took the result to the jury to have a look. The jurors passed the paper amongst themselves. When they were done, kyle took the result and gave it to Leonard.
Leonard smiled at the result and handed it back to kyle.
"Thank you. I have no further questions and no other witnesses, honor" kyle bow, and went to his seat.
"Does the defense have any questions?"Leonard questioned.
Jeremy smiled at what Leonard just asked him. "This was the time," he thought and stood up.? Jeremy picked a paper from his desk and walked to the witness stand.
"Dr john. If you see your signature, will you recognize it?"Jeremy asked him.
The doctor look dumbfounded and was unable to answer Jeremy's questions.
Jeremy smiled and proceed to aka another question. "When the test result came out was there any other information?"
"No, "the doctor replied the time around.
"Is this your signature?"Jeremy showed him the paper.
Leonard and kyle exchange looks as Jeremy gave the doctor the paper.?
"This is my signature but, how did you get it?" the man asked looking surprised.
"If this was your signature and you signed it then, I guessed you sign this result. This paper is the real result conducted on sola by Dr john. "
Kyle almost shouted in his seat. "How the hell did he lay his hands on such confidential information?" he thought.
"Objection your honor!" kyle stood up.
"Objection sustained, "Leonard ordered.
Kyle walked with a paper in his hand and showed it to Jeremy. "How do you have a fake result when the real result is here?"
"A fake result can be made but?can a fake signature be easily detected?"Jeremy questioned kyle and when he had no answer to it, Jeremy continued.
"On September 26 Mr john, you gave these test results to sola's family. Am I correct?"
The doctor gulped and didn't answer.
"Objection your honor, "kyle stood up again.
"Sustained, "Leonard ordered.
"Dr john didn't give any test results to Sola's family. This is fake." kyle argued.
"This is the signature of sola's younger sister Lillian. " Jeremy gave a piece of the result to the jurors and another to Leonard.
"The test result shows that not only did sola died from bleeding out as a result of getting hit on the head. She was also raped repeatedly that night. Now tell me, did my client also raped her?"Jeremy questioned.
The jurors whispered among themselves as they pass the result amongst themselves.
"Your honor. I would like to have the result marked as defendant exhibit one and ask that it should be admitted into evidence, "Jeremy requested and bow. when he raised his head, he smirked at Leonard.
Leonard frowned at him and squeeze his face in anger.
"Does the defense have any objections?"Leonard asked kyle who was shaking where he stood.
"Yes, your honor" kyle replied.
"Proceed"
Kyle bow and took the result from Jeremy's hand. "How real is this result? And if it was real, why is it just surfacing now?"
"That for the doctor to answer because this was his signature. "Jeremy pointed to the signature on the paper.
"I refused to believe this. I object to this exhibit "
Jeremy circled him before replying. "Then I hope you can explain the signature of doctor john."
Kyle stood dumb for a minute and then he chuckled. "No more objections you're honor" he declared.
Leonard fumed where here was seated. This was not how he planned to end the case.
"The result will be admitted as defendant exhibit one "he declared and hit his gravel.
"Thank you. Your honor, I have no further questions."Jeremy bow and went back to his seat.
"The witness is excused. "
"Your honor, the prosecutor rests with his case." kyle bow and sat down.
"Your honor, the defendant also rests with his case for now, "Jeremy also bow and sat down.
The jurors spoke among themselves. When they were done, their foreperson handed over a file to the clerk which she took to Leonard.
Leonard adjusted the glasses on his face before he spoke up. "Since the prosecutor and defendant had refused to?provide tangible evidence for this case, this trial has being adjourned to the 31st of this month."Leonard declared and hit the gravel.
"All rise !" the bailiff shouted as Leonard stood up to walk out of the courtroom.
