Chapter 58

"Extreme justice is often injustice."

The city park was filled with a lot of people especially the youth. The park was also filled up with different reporters. Some were filming the park and reporting while others were interviewing the people. All the people that came to the park had a board raised. For some, they wrote I stand for justice while others wrote insulting words about the feathers such as "fuck the feathers and the government."
Out of all the board raised, only one stood out, and on the board were these writings. "Bring back my family. The feathers deserved justice."
The board was raised by a woman wearing an all-black outfit including a Face cap and a pair of glasses. Her face couldn't be seen but the board she held in her hand stood out.?
The sun was bright and scorching but the people didn't care as they gathered themselves and raised their banners. Soon Mary arrived at the park and walked to the front of the city park where she could be seen. She raised the megaphone in her hand and addressed the crowd. "Thank you all for coming. Thank you for supporting this protest," Mary bow and the people cheered her up. "My name is Mary Adeitan and I am anonymous." She introduced and the crowd cheered.
"For years now, the feathers have oppressed a lot of people and nothing had been done about it. Most of you here probably lost one or two things to the feathers. I also lost a friend but it's time this all end." She shouted and the people chorused with a yes. "It all going to end. This injustice has to end!" She shouted again.
"Yes," they all chorused.
"Linda was a promising young lady but she died an unjust death. She was murdered in cold blood and didn't get any justice. We are going to make sure Linda gets the justice she deserved."
"Yes!" They all chorused.
"The circle community," she pointed to where Elijah and few people from the circle community stood. They all waved at her and she smiled at them then she continued. "The circle community were sent away from their homes. They were made to live on the streets. Some of them died and those who survived were left to starved until Jeremy Akinsola stood up for them but what later happened, the feathers killed him!" She shouted and beat her chest. "We have to end this. Let me hear you say to end this!"
"End this!" They all chorused.
"Let's end this!"
"End this!"
The people raised their banners as they said they all said the word together.
"Elijah from the circle community has something to say," Mary announced after the cheering had died down.
Elijah walked to the front of the crowd. Due to his stature, he was made to stand on a table as he addressed the table. "Hello," he greeted the people. "I am Elijah and I feel really scared right now standing In front of all these people." He said and the people laughed then they began to cheer him up.
"Elijah! Elijah! Elijah!" They all chanted.
"Thank you, everyone." He bows his hand then he raised his small hand to stop them from cheering. When he got their attention, he continued his talk. "The circle community was people who had nothing but we were happy until the feathers forcefully took our land. They say the president approves it. What kind of president approves such a thing?" Elijah asked the crowd.
"A puppet president," a man from the crowd shouted and soon the people joined in chanting the president's name. "A puppet president!" They all chorused.
"Jeremy Akinsola was a hero who saved us but they killed him!" Elijah screamed. "They killed him because he stood up against their injustice. Though he may not be with us now his spirit is with us." Elijah said silently. "Let us all use this medium as a moment of silence for Jeremy Akinsola."? He requested.
The noisy ground soon became silent as everyone bows their heads as a moment of silence for Jeremy Akinsola.
Elijah continued talking after the moment ended. " he was a great man and he saved the circle community," he sniffed and wiped the tears that are were starting to drop off his face." We all deserved justice for everything they have done to us. I stand for justice!" Elijah raised his tiny hands and the people did the same.
"Justice!" They all chanted.??
When Elijah ended his words, Mary took the stage and clap her hands while chanting the word justice. The people also did the same with their boards raised.
"Justice!" Mary shouted for the last time and raised her hands to stop them. "Thank you all once again for your supports. Just like Elijah had said, the president abandoned us and let the feathers ruled the country. What do we say to this?" She asked the crowd.
"Justice!" They all chorused.
"I challenged the president as a Citizen of Mecianda. If he can prove all the allegations are false, I will shave my head and take any punishment given to me." She said confidently and the people cheered for her.
Kendra and Paul arrived at the scene and watched Mary as she addressed the people from afar.
"She is vibrant," Paul commented.
"Yes, she is," Kendra replied with a smile while watching Mary. "I missed our group." She confessed.
"Should we move closer?"
"No, Paul. Let's watch them from here."
While watching them from afar, Kendra took her time to look around and that's was she saw it.
A sniper was on the roof of the skyscraper opposite them. Kendra closed one eye and opened the other to see where the sniper was pointing towards. When she realized who the sniper was aiming at, Kendra ran into the crowd.
"Kendra!" Paul ran behind her. When he reached her and tried to stop her, Kendra pointed to Mary without saying anything.
Kendra wanted to scream for Mary's attention but she was too far away. She ran with every bit of strength in her body. Because of the large crowd, Kendra finds it difficult to reach Mary on time. She had to push some of the people away to create space for her to run.
"Sorry," Kendra apologized as she pushed some people out the way. When she was getting closer, she shouted Mary's name by which was futile.
"Mary!" She shouted her name as loud as she could. "Mary!" She shouted again but Mary didn't hear her instead it was Lisa who noticed her.
Lisa was surprised to see Kendra running towards them. She couldn't believe Kendra was in front of her. "Kendra," she whispered.
Kendra's eyes met hers and when she was sure that she had gained Lisa's attention,? she pointed to the skyscraper. "There is a sniper on the roof!" She shouted.
Lisa shook her head as a sign that she didn't hear her.
Kendra pointed to the skyscraper and shouted again. "Sniper!" She shouted.
Lisa noticed the sniper this time. She pushed Mary away and a loud shot sounded.?
Bang!
The park suddenly grew silent. Kendra stopped abruptly as soon as the shots were fired. She turned her head to the Sniper and back to the stage. Someone from the crowd started screaming and soon everyone joined in. Most of the people ran away while few were lefts behind. Most of the reporters ran away as soon as the gunshots sounded.
The peaceful protests had turned into a bloody one.

Meanwhile, the feathers were gathered for an urgent meeting to discuss the video Mary posted online. It was Simone who spoke up first as soon as the meeting started.
"Who the hell is this Mary Adeitan? And who the hell is Linda?" Simone questioned.
"Why are you asking when you know how Daniel's sons are? They have a lot of victims and I wouldn't be surprised if she is one of them." Alissa replied.
"What are we going to do about this?" Leonard asked and When he didn't get any reply, he pointed to the screen of his phone. "I am watching the gathering live and people came out to support her."
"It seems to me that a lot of people hated us." park commented.
"What do you have to say to this? Do you have any plans, Daniel?" Munachi questioned him.
Daniel sighed heavily and looked at their faces. "Calm down and continue watching the video."
"As if a miracle would happen," Alissa chuckled.
Daniel ignored her and stood up from his chair. He walked to the front of the room and turned on the TV in the room. "Do me a favor Alissa and watched what would happen next." He encouraged with a smile.
When the TV came on, it was showing Mary live on every channel. So Daniel picked one channel for all of them to watch. The feathers all watched with Rapt attention and Alissa commented on every scene.
"So this tiny thumb is alive?" Alissa commented when the video showed Elijah as he addressed the people.
"Yes. Jeremy Akinsola helped the circle community." Park replied.
"So what's your plan huh? Are we going to seat here and watched these people insulting us?" Alissa teased and then burst into laughter.?
"Shut up Alissa," Simone shouted. "Just watch," she pointed to the TV screen.
"Sitting here and watching this thing is getting on my nerve." Alissa voiced out.
This time, no one replied to her as their eyes were all focused on the TV screen. It got to a point when Daniel sat down and stood up again. He paced around the room and speak to himself. When the gunshots scene came up, Daniel jumped up and shouted joyfully. "Yes!"
Simone also reacted by smiling at the reaction of the people toward the gun shooting.
"This is your big plan huh?" Alissa questioned and when she didn't get a reply, she proceeded to ask another question. "Who was that?"
"Andre," munachi replied to her.
The feathers all turned their eyes away from the scene and discussed their next plan. Only Alissa watched the rest of the video. The feathers were so engrossed in their discussion that they didn't notice Alissa standing up from her seat ad heading towards the TV. "Guys!" Alissa shouted. "Look up and see this." She called for their attention and pointed to the screen. "Andre shot the wrong person." She threw her hands up and quickly dropped them down. "You just killed the wrong person."
Daniel stood up from his seat and watched as an unknown woman was rushed into an ambulance. He saw Mary rushing into the ambulance and it made him scream.
"You never listen now looked at what happened. Your stupid hitman just shot the wrong person." She mocked and started laughing...
"Shut up," they all shouted at her.
"No matter what happened now. We are launching our project is going to stop us." Daniel promised.??
"I hope so," Alissa commented.

In the underground where James and Lara were locked up. They both looked towards the door and nodded at each other. They both communicated using their eyes as a signal.
James bought out the knife he stole earlier from One of Daniel's men when he was being electrocuted from his pocket. He used the knife to cut the wire that was tied around his body. He accidentally cut his hand but he didn't care about the blood that was pooling out of his hand. All he could think of at that moment was getting out of the building. After he successfully untied himself, he beckoned for Lara to watch the door. He dropped the wire around him and moved to Lara and he untied her.
"Now?" Lara questioned.
"Now!" James nodded.
Lara screamed and the guards came rushing into the room. James rushed at one of them with the knife in his hand, he stabbed one of the guards.
The masked man groaned out in pain and fell to the ground. Lara fought the other man but he was too powerful for her. He picked her up like paper and threw her to the wall.
Lara landed beside a flower vase and her head made contact with the floor. "Ouch," she groaned in pain but struggled to stand. The man got to her and grabbed her again but Lara didn't back down this time. She grabbed the flower vase and hit the man on the head. The man dropped to the ground and held his bleeding head.
"Are you alright?" James asked her as soon as he was done with the other man.?
Lara nodded and walked towards the injured man laying on the ground. She removed his mask and gasped. "These men are not from mecianda."
"They are assassins. You can tell by the scars on their body." James added.
"Let's go," Lara said to him.
James and Lara both ran out of the building but they didn't get to the stairs as one of the men went after them. He grabbed Lara's leg and pulled her down.
"Help me," Lara begged James.
"Kick him on the face with your other leg," James instructed.
Lara did as told but it was futile. James joined in kicking off Man's face until he couldn't take it anymore and let go of Lara's leg. "Let's go," James grabbed her hand and they both ran out of the building. When they got to Daniel's parking lot, they were attacked by another set of masked men. It was as if they were alerted.
"What do we do?" Lara questioned as the men fired bullets at them.
James didn't reply instead he bought out a pair of car keys from his pocket. He pressed a button and the car opposite them flashed a light. "Run when I say you should." He told her.
"How do we get past all those men and how the hell did you get this key?" Lara asked.
"Run!" He shouted at her.
Lara did as told and ran into the car. She entered the driver's seat and bow her head as the men fired bullets at her. Soon, James rushed in to join her.
"Start the car," he shouted at her.
