Chapter 19
Ryan's POV
I saw that Rei seemed to be making an unpleasant face at us. Especially with my friends like Dylan and Tom who seemed to be starting to corner him. As for Mark and I, we don't care. We are not saying that Rei is completely wrong. Because I also don't really know what's in Rei's heart and thoughts. Just being able to guess without being able to prove it is stupid and naive. If Rei is proven guilty and deliberately threw the ball at Jake's head, slowly the contents of his head will be discovered too.
"Emm... I'm not like what you think and suspect about me. I really didn't do it on purpose. I didn't even know that my ball had landed on your friend's head. So I'm sorry, I'm sorry again."
Mark patted Rei's shoulder.
"You really have a big heart, you dare to apologize even for something you didn't mean at all."
"But it's not that easy, it's easy to just apologize while our friend Jake's condition can be seen for yourself, right?"
Rei looked at Jake who seemed to still feel dizzy and dizzy. It seemed like he was trying to gather his full consciousness. Because he probably still felt dizzy from the impact of the ball which hit his head not gently but quite hard too.
"Never mind Tom, Dylan, don't escalate the situation too much by continuing to accuse Rei without strong evidence." I said.
"It's so easy for you, Ryan, to talk like that. Don't you really care about Jake, your friend, our friend?" Dylan apparently started to get annoyed with me.
"I care, I really care. Because he is in a condition like this, I really care about wanting Jake to calm down first. If the atmosphere is noisy then it will be clear that Jake will have difficulty calming down. He will become increasingly dizzy and it will be difficult for him to regain complete consciousness." I explained.
"Yeah, don't make matters worse, Ryan said, support Jake calmly." Mark added.
"Okay." Tom said.
Dylan just remained silent with his expression still annoyed.
Then he spoke again with a little buzz but it was still audible.
"Well, because he messed up, we ended up failing practice and were only able to practice half way, hmmm..." As he walked to the side, he took a drink which he kept in his small bag.
Our sweat was still dripping, my friends and I took Jake to the edge of the field.
Meanwhile, Rei followed us to secure Jake. It seems that Rei is a responsible figure, it's proven that he is still with us to this day. Mark tries to give Jake an impulse so that Jake returns to full consciousness. Because he's been talking a little slurred but sometimes he's connected. Maybe his head still felt the impact, so it still felt like it was shaking inside his head. So he still has difficulty being able to focus and concentrate and balance himself with his environment.
"Aren't you coming home?" I asked Rei.
"Yeah, you've got the ball you were looking for." Tom said.
"Well, I don't feel at ease if your friend Jake isn't fully conscious yet. I still feel bad for your friend and you friends."
I rubbed Rei's back.
"Don't worry, you're safe. We're not angry and our friends will be fine."
I thought that Rei wasn't a college kid here. But why is he here and we see him more often around campus? Is he a new kid or a junior who just entered? The thing is, we had never seen him on campus before, but this is the only time I mean recently.
Because if he was still a high school student who came from Oakwood High School it seemed a bit impossible. Because we never see him wearing clothes or uniforms that show he is still a high school student. I will try to find out who he really is and what his mission is.
After trying to persuade Jake several times, Jake finally regained consciousness and started laughing again by making jokes.
We also felt relieved, as did Rei, who had been wearing a face full of tension and anxiety. But now the expression on his face faded and began to show a sense of relief and calm.
"You're just making me panic." Dylan said.
"Yeah, I'm worried too." Tom added.
Mark and I just smiled at their behavior. Meanwhile, Rei looked confused and seemed to be in the middle of us.
"Finally I didn't lose any of my valuable assets, I can still eat for free in the canteen." Tom who looks serious.
"Hahaha, you bastard."
"But I still don't seem to remember that." Jake replied to Tom's joke.
"Hahahahaha." Made us laugh out loud together. I was left shaking my head by the child's behavior.
"Umm, then, because Jake is aware. As a request from my guilt. I want to invite you to have coffee at a cafe nearby. How about you be willing and accept my offer."
"Come on," enthusiasm surged without keeping the image out of Tom and Jake's mouths.
"No! I don't want to. You guys, I want to go home." Dylan said as if he was still annoyed with Rei and me because of what happened earlier.
"Come on Dylan, don't be like that. We appreciate Rei who wants to have good intentions towards us." Mark said persuading Dylan.
But Dylan still didn't want to come and preferred to go home alone. Finally Dylan came home and we let him go home without forcing him to come with us. We started walking towards the cafe we were referring to. This cafe is a regular place for us to hang out and is a favorite cafe for other campus kids who also like drinking coffee.
"Hmm, I think Dylan is really stupid, how could he miss the opportunity to get free coffee. Hahaha..." Tom started talking all over the place.
"Hahaha, yes, I think so too, even though I know what he really wants, in his heart it's just the boss's prestige." Jake chimed in as crazy as Tom.
"Husss ah, that's our friend." Mark said to intervene.
"Just stupid, Jake."
"Hahaha, that's right, how about we tell Dylan in front of Dylan when we meet on campus that the coffee is really good."
"Hehehe, that's a great idea."
They high-five.
I don't really care about their chatter, which is often always weird. I focused more on inviting Rei to talk so that she wouldn't feel alone and strange. Finally we arrived at the cafe we were going to. Start choosing a seat and order the coffee menu variants available at this cafe. Rei invited us to order any type of coffee we liked without caring about the price. He seemed to really want to make amends for his mistake.
