CHAPTER 18

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
COLLIN’S POV
“So how was the meeting? Any Alphas that died by your hand today? Any broken bones perhaps?” Danny joked the moment I walked into his apartment after I got back to the park house after the meeting.

“As much as that would have been so much fun, unfortunately not. It’s really a critical time right now with a serial killer on the loose. So did you find anything? I want to figure this whole thing out before it blows up,”

“Actually, you are going to love this. Remember that house on the seventeenth street? The one that no one had been living in for the past god knows how many years and has actually been named ghost house?” He questioned as I sat down.

“Yeah?” I quirked an eyebrow up.

“Last week, it was completely cleaned, the lawn mowed and you know why? Because it was book by three women for a full week stay starting this Monday but for unknown reasons, they never showed up. Listen, this is part where it gets interesting,” he really knew how to tick my patience. Right now, any piece of information was vital in narrowing down where

“Just get on with it Danny,”

“Nadia called to book that house for a stay in this town,”

“N-Nadia?” I felt my heart beat racing. Even the mere mention of her name was enough to send my wolf into a ripple of excitement. It was almost impossible to imagine how every part me always reacted like I was on fire.

“The one and the same Nadia. So I guessed right away the other two would be her friends,”

“But why would she be coming here? Woodcave is like in the middle of nowhere and there is not really much to see here,” I pointed out. How could three women of such high status take interest in a town this small in the middle of nowhere?

“That’s what I asked. I mean, come on, they are like super rich and that house is just some old abandoned building. The weirdest part was that when Nadia called, she asked for that specific house claiming it belonged to a friend of hers,” he shrugged.

“Who told you all that?” I questioned.

“Miss Heathers. The old woman owning the human’s only coffee shop in town. She self-appointed herself to take of the house after the owners disappeared years ago,”

“Disappeared? And did she say why?” Why would Nadia be coming to an abandoned house?

“Nope,”

I stood up, my interest of that specific house puckered up as I looked at Danny with a serious expression.

“This is what we are going to do. I’m going to give Mrs. Heathers a visit while you give our library a visit. Dig out as much information as you can get about the owners of that house,”

“First off, you’d need luck to get Heathers to talk and how the hell am I supposed to dig out information about a house that I had no idea who it belongs to?”

“I don’t know Danny. Ask somebody or just…just figure it out,” with that said, I rushed to my car right in front of my apartment, revving the engine almost immediately before driving out of the pack house.

What would Nadia book the ghost house specifically? Funny thing was I had no single idea why it was called ghost house and I had my father to blame for this. He sent me to boarding school since elementary and only let me take over the pack after he retired to New York to keep up with family hotel business. I had never really given a single shit about my family’s business but my older sister, Grace, was doing pretty well with that.

The coffee shop was full of the human chatter and not a single supernatural soul was present. After all, it was the only coffee in town that was meant for humans only and it was pretty much illegal for any kind of supernaturals to step in.

“Your kind are not welcome here,” it was easy to recognize the old woman with her stoic expression and looking so well despite her years.

“Then I suggest you cooperate Miss. Heathers. We wouldn’t want the humans to know about my kind, now would we?” I snapped over the counter, loud enough only for her to hear.

“Don’t be so confident Collins. You may be an Alpha among your pack but you are no alpha here. I do not fear you,” I had never had someone challenge me like this before. She had guts, I had to give her that.

“Trust me, you do not want me to cause a ruckus here Heathers. I mean, the last thing we would both want is one of your customers to get hurt by my…fangs. Let’s go somewhere and kindly talk. After all, you did talk to my friend, right? Then why is it so different when we are the same kind?”

“I only talked to Danny because despite being your kind, he actually spends time with us. So, if you’re here about Nadia and that ghost house, you won’t be getting a thing from me. And just so you know, reckoning is coming for your kind,” she leaned in to whisper,” Wolf,”

Take me Alpha
