CHAPTER 24
CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR
NADIA’S POV
This could not be happening. This had to be a nightmare and I would probably wake up soon enough.
“So werewolves are not only real but have been here in Woodcave for centuries?” I questioned for probably the hundredth time, seeking some sort of denial in Mrs. Heathers’ eyes. It was pretty hard to believe that the town you spend your childhood in was a haven to werewolves.
“Yes Nadia. Even when you were a kid, they were there, “she replied, no hint of frustration in her voice.
“Then why don’t I remember any of it?” I questioned.
“Because there are parts of your past that have been taken away from your memory. I would really love to sit here and tell you all about the werewolves and other supernatural creatures but I don’t have the luxury of time. So I’ll just brief you on it even though I’m beginning to believe this is the beginning of a war. If it is as far as the prediction comes, then it’s going to be a disastrous war and Nadia you are part of it,”
“Did I say this town is level million type of freak?” Trina pointed out, still pacing around Mrs. Heather’s house. Who could blame her though? We were all freaked out pretty much and even Sasha who would usually try to lighten the mood by a joke or two, seemed utterly shocked.
“Yes, a hundred times Trina,” Sasha said, rolling her eyes.
“So apparently I grew up in a werewolf infested town and the only reason I don’t know all this is because some parts of my past have been taken away from my memory. What does that even mean anyway?” I questioned. It was getting hard to wrap my head around all this. It’s like, one minute I was living a pretty normal life in a normal world and just like that, it was all gone within the blink of an eye. Suddenly I’m learning some novel creatures were actually real and what I used to call my hometown, was actually home to them.
“Usually, a witches would be responsible for that but it’s been years since a witch was spotted in Woodcave. After signing the agreement, all the supernatural beings were separated,”
“Can you speak in a language I can understand please?” I rubbed my forehead with my index finger.
“Werewolves are not the only mythical creatures alive. There are vampires, witches, were dragons and Hunters. They all used to live in peace with the humans, right here in Woodcave. It was like a supernatural city but then the quest for dominance broke them apart and a war broke out. They all signed an agreement around fifty years ago. Witches moved to DarkCave Town, Vampires moved to BloodCave Town, Dragons now live in Firecave Town and well since the Hunters were not exactly the type to cause trouble with anyone unless provocated, they remained here, in Woodcave alongside the werewolves. For years, it was peaceful until one night, fifteen years ago, when a hunter was attacked by a rogue werewolf and killed. The hunters retaliated against the wolves. Being very animalistic, the wolves responded by storming into every hunter house and killing every hunter family without even sparing the kids,”
“Fifteen years ago? A-Are you saying that my parents were…” I muttered hesitantly, my breathing growing erratic a tad bit at the possibility of the unfinished sentence.
“Hunters? Yes, your mother was a hunter and one of the best this town ever had,”
“Wait, you expect me to believe that my mother was a freaking hunter?” I questioned, looking at her. None of this was making any sense to me. My mother was the sweetest, kindest and most peaceful soul I ever knew. Her being some hunter did not just seem believable, at least not to me.
“Hunter? She sounds like some badass woman. Wait, by hunter, you mean walking around with a spear or walking around with a gun to hunt animals?” Typical Sasha.
“No. By Hunter, I mean a supernatural Hunter. They possess special skills to track and kill supernatural creatures, especially those that cause trouble to humans. Their skills in dealing with these kind of things, makes them above the normal hunter,”
“So if my mother was a hunter, then am I some sort of freak too?” I questioned.
“You do not possess the power of a hunter Nadia. You my dear, are something else. At this time, the human race in this town depends on you,”
“Something else? What am I exactly?” I questioned.
“The only thing your mother said was that the answer lies in your memory, “she said.
I stood up, my hands pressed firmly against my hips,” Alright Trina, we are going back to the City. This town, this life, is not the one I envisioned for myself and if this means me never getting the actual answers I needed, then I’m just fine,” I stated, throwing my hands slightly in the air.
“You cannot just run away from your destiny Nadia,” Mrs. Heathers pointed out.
“Look, I respect you for taking care of my family house all these years but this twisted life with werewolves and whatever creatures, is not my life. My life is in the city, where I have two great friends and write novels both for a living and a hobby. I do not want any part of this and no one can change my mind about that,” I stated with finality. I was not about to spend one more damn night in this place when who knows? Maybe a werewolf could tear me and my friends apart. Even if a goddamn sexy werewolf with rippling muscles would not make me stay a second in this place.
“But you cannot just-“she started but I stopped her.
“My decision is final Mrs. Heathers. Also about my house, you can sell it if you want to,” I walked out of her house with Trina and Sasha in tow. Just my bad luck, dusk was approaching in so fast, considering it was already fifteen minutes past six.
“Look, I know you are scared about this whole crazy truth about wolves and so do I but I do not think we can travel at this time. I’m already cramped up enough and so are you guys. How about we just book a motel for the night and then we can go away very early tomorrow morning?” Sasha pointed out as we got inside the car.
“You know she is right,” Trina backed her up.
“If I remember correctly there used to be a motel a few miles from here. I’ll give you the directions and you drive. I’m not exactly in the right shape for that,” I said. My mind was a whirlwind of thoughts as I tried to make sense of what my life had suddenly become.
“Alright,” Trina answered as she got behind the wheel.
