CHAPTER 60
CHAPTER SIXTY
NADIA’S POV
He was there for me? How dare he say that? How dare he make my heart flutter like that as though it was only his to possess?
“You seem…distracted,” Drake’s voice intercepted my thoughts, pulling me back to reality. It took a full second for me to realize I was at a rather fancy restaurant on a date with Drake.
“Can you blame me? My friend is in your hands, a man who I watched kill a tourist on our way here,” I pointed out in a soft voice, leaning slightly a bit so no one could hear us.
Drake barely grunted in response, continuing his streak of devouring the steak on his plate. I guess being part wolf did come in handy too.
“You know when you first turn into a hybrid, your body is confused on what to adjust to. The ravenous side of a wolf and blood thirst of a vampire, keep fighting for control. They play around with your emotions and mind just so they see who wins in the end. Now, if you don’t try to control that as soon as possible and with the right person by your side, you could end up a cold-hearted killer, enjoying the death of a prey one after another. Seeing blood sip off your victim’s body spikes adrenaline in you,” he leaned forward, letting his fork fall softly on his plate, “Do you really want your friend to end up like that?”
I cringed with dread at the thought of Trina turning into some deadly killer who enjoyed the hunt of innocent people but then again, how was I supposed to trust Drake?
“I can deal with her,”
“Come on gorgeous, we both know you can’t do it. No, I’m not underestimating you but you have zero knowledge on my kind and since she is the first offspring, I’m having in quite a while, I wouldn’t want to lose her either,” he straightened, picking up his fork again as he cut a piece of steak,” I know you don’t trust me yet, which actually hurts my pride, but once you have all your memories back, then you will,”
I reached forward, gripping his rather cold wrist,” Then help me get my memories back,”
For a split of a second, his eyes fell on my hand around his wrist, remained glued and softness smoothed its way over his features. He was quick to clear his throat, the usual smirk exuding utter arrogance returning.
“How could I possibly help you?” He questioned as I withdrew my hand.
“You are well known and feared hybrid and so I’m assuming that you can easily get hold of a witch powerful enough to retrieve my memories,” I took a breath, letting him meet my gaze so he could see the hope in my eyes,” I’m very desperate, Drake. The man who murdered my family is in town and he gets to breath another second. He deserves to die in the most excruciating manner. I want him dead,” I muttered with a tightened jaw.
“You think I don’t want to end the entire Carson Whites bloodline? I want that too more than anyone especially after Carson’s great grandfather saw to it that my hybrids were no more. Those hybrids were family to me and he mercilessly participated in killing them. What kept me alive all these years was the fire of vengeance in me. Alone, I couldn’t take out all those werewolves and with some witches backing them up, its an almost impossible task,” he paused,” Why do you think a hybrid as powerful as me hasn’t taken them down just yet?”
“They have witches backing them up? I thought use of magic was banned in this town,” I pointed out. Had Mrs. Heathers lied to me about that part?
“It is banned but Carson White just like his forefathers, would bend rules in secret,” he paused, this time his jaw tightening,” I loathe the witches as much as I do with the werewolves. Winning this war means having an army powerful enough to take both parties down. Attacking Carson right now would just be walking to a death trap. I’m impulsive and very vengeful but I’m not stupid,”
“So you are telling me all this big bad hybrid thing you got going on is just a cover up for the scared little hybrid you really are?” Why was I mad that he was scared of attacking the werewolves? I wanted Carson White dead and the devil that I was supposed to dance with, happened to be a coward.
“Want some chocolate cake for dessert?” He said instead as he signaled for the waitress.
“No. What I want is some goddamn help, Drake. If you and I actually share a history together, then please help me out. The only way I’ll let you stay with Trina until she is herself again is if you help me out,”
He calmly ordered dessert, ignoring me as he checked his phone, taking a sip of water from his glass. If there was one man who seemed to get on my nerves this much, it was Drake. I was treading on the delicate edge of my sanity and he was sitting calmly opposite me acting like he didn’t loathe wolves as much as I did.
“So what now?” I demanded.
“Ah! Chocolate cake. Just something sweet, other than you of course, to put me in a great mood. All this talk of reliving my past has admittedly made me a little…upset,” he smiled as the cake came. Was it bad that his smile wasn’t as conniving as it should? It made him look less scary.
I had barely touched my dinner despite being hungry. Releasing a frustrated sigh, I dug into the cake refusing to moan against the sweetness. Once we were done, he paid up for dinner and then led me out of the restaurant.
“I know I’ve already said it before but…mmmh, seeing how beautiful you are, makes it worth the wait,” He said, the moment we got in his care.
“Not very flattering, Drake. How about-“
“Would you like to see Trina tonight? She could use a familiar face,” he cut me off.
“Of course, I want to see her,” I pointed out the obvious.
“Okay. Good choice,” He changed direction, driving into the more lavish parts of town. How very predictable of him.
“Welcome to my humble abode,” he gestured, opening the front door wide.
I hadn’t anticipated the décor of his home to be mostly dark art but then again, he was Drake. I slowly let my gaze feed on the look of his house before sweeping around for any sign of Trina.
“I really do hope you brought some meal home because I’m starving,” I turned around at the sound of the familiar voice just as Trina came into view, dressed in an extremely sexy, revealing black off shoulder dress, very much opposite her style. This was the most make-up I’d ever seen on her face and were those heels six-inch tall?
“T-Trina,” She looked nothing like the girl I was best friends with.
A smirk curled on her lips as she covered the distance between us, stopping before me as she ran her newly manicured fingers over the side of my face, tilting my jaw to meet her gaze.
“You like my new look, Nadia?” her voice was sly.
“Who are you?” I muttered, still very in shock. There was no trace of the woman I used to know. All this badass, sexy Trina was the exact opposite of her. She was always the more reserved, more mature of our trio.
“Me? Trina. Just a more elevated version of myself. At least I don’t have to sit in the back and watch all the guy’s flirt with you and Sasha. It feels great not to be the responsible one in the group and you know what? I’m going to get as loose as you two and just fuck any guy that show interest as long as he is hot enough,”
“Trina this is not you. Look, I have no idea what Drake did to you but-“
“He gave my life a new meaning. Aren’t you happy that now I get to be as much fun as you and Sasha? I mean, come on Nadia. In one month, you’ve had three different, extremely hot men,”
“I haven’t had three men, Trina. I was never in love with William and as for Collins, we just had some fun in Vegas. He and I never had anything solid and we never will. He was good while he lasted. As for Drake-“
“And send,” She cut me off, as she pushed her phone inside her purse.
“What?”
“Oh, I just sent that audio to Collins, I’m pretty sure he’d be happy to know his exact place in your life,” she smirked.
“Why the fuck would you do that?” I snapped.
“Because I hate the wolves and that Collins guy the most,” the smirk turned into a hardened look of hatred,” And I’ll see to it nothing remains of him and his pack,”
