CHAPTER 31

CHAPTER THIRTY ONE
NADIA’S POV
I stared blankly at Collins. Nothing he said made any sense to me. Hybrid? Having to kill her her first?

“What?” I shake my head slightly in confusion.

“We have to kill her first, Nadia,” He repeated for the third time, this time sounding openly frustrated.

“Kill her? So, you are going to kill Trina and I’m just supposed to happily oblige? That woman lying there in those chains, unconscious, is my best friend and you are telling me that you have to kill her. I’m not going to let you lay a hand on her. I don’t care what she becomes but you are not going to kill her Collins,” I was adamant.

“We are not going to kill her, like totally kill her. I mean we are going to kill her but -Ugh! Now I’m just confusing myself. Deal with your woman Collins. I’m out of here,” Danny threw his hand slightly in the air, quickly leaving the room with the doctor in tow.

Collins met my gaze as he clasped his palms with mine,” Look, I’m really getting impatient Nadia and so, I’m only going to explain this one more time. I thought it was going to be pretty easy explaining this to you since you are author but clearly, it’s harder than I thought. Your friend, Trina is not a normal werewolf. She was bitten by a hybrid wolf who supposedly extinct. As I explained before, a hybrid is someone who is half vampire-half werewolf. The werewolf venom is already deep in her veins and now all we need to do is just kill her to activate her vampire side. Or at least I suppose that’s what we are supposed to do. I mean, I’ve never encountered a hybrid before. Then once that is done, she’ll come back again as a hybrid. Did you get any of that Nadia or do I have to sedate you to sleep and only wake you up after it’s all done?”

I detached my hands from his and slowly sank on the couch. This could not be possibly happening to me. It was only today morning when I was a normal person with two normal best friends and just in a split of a second, it was all gone; snatched away from me so brutally.

“I’ll take that as a yes to understanding. Now, I’ll get the guys and get this done with,” Collins matched out of the room and barely seconds later, he was back with the doctor, Danny and Ethan.

They talked for a few seconds but I barely heard any of it. This was the time I needed Sasha’s bad jokes and talkative, free spirit but unfortunately she was not picking up her phone.

“It’s time Nadia,” I nodded as I stood up.

I made my way towards the glass separating us, letting a few tears roll off my cheeks. With my palms pressed against the glass, I gazed at the unconscious form of my best friend.

“I know you cannot hear me but I’m so sorry I dragged you here Trina. If I had stayed back in New York like you wanted, you would not be here and you’d not be…this. I’m sorry and you have no idea how I wish I could take your place right now. If you hate me after this, I will understand. I’m the worst friend,” I did not bother rubbing off the tears on my face. This was the first time in a really long time that I had cried. I caused this. I did this to her and nothing would ever make me feel more guiltier than this.

“I-I can’t watch this,” I muttered as I brushed past Collins, walking outside.

I could not stand watching any of them turn my friend into a hybrid or whatever that creature was. I stepped out of the house, sitting on the lounge chair in front of the apartment. The last thing that my mind cared to register was the chills biting into my arms. My mind reeled with thoughts of what she’d become. Thoughts of how I was to blame for all of this.

“Nadia,” I looked up, finding Mrs. Heathers. She looked out of breath, worry written on her face. Had I really been so into my thoughts not to even hear her approaching?

I rushed into her motherly embrace as she engulfed her arms around me.

“I’m really sorry about Trina, Nadia. When you called and told me what had happened, I closed down the coffee shop immediately. As much as I hate being here, among these soulless creatures, I needed to slap some sense into Collins. He had no right turning her into a werewolf!” She snapped angrily as I pulled away from her embrace.

“He was not the one who bit her,” I answered.

“And you believe that? He is a liar and I’m going to show you that he is-“

“She is turning into a hybrid, Mrs. Heathers,” I cut her off, my voice cracked.

“W-what? But…Wait, what exactly do you mean she is turning into a hybrid?”

“I didn’t really understand that much about any of it either but Collis mentioned that Trina was bitten by a hybrid werewolf. Now they are going to kill her and activate her vampire side or it sounded something like that,”

“Kill her? They can’t kill her yet without making her drink vampire blood. She won’t survive the transition. I can’t believe Collins could be so naïve,” She walked into the house, dragging me along with her.

“At this point, nothing surprises me anymore,” I admitted.
