CHAPTER 71
CHAPTER SEVENTY-ONE
For the next three days, all of us except for Trina remained locked up in the house which lucky for us was sealed off by a spell by Miranda. She had hadn’t talked to us, was barely eating or sleeping but so were the rest of us. Drowning in misery with nothing but the deathly silence for company, we all mourned the loss of the only people had been left of our families, each of us in their own way. While Sasha was besides herself with tears, Trina had been out, Miranda locked herself up in the guest bedroom, staring at nothing while I sat in the same motionless state, barely a shadow of myself.
It was hard to accept what had happened. Mrs. Heathers couldn’t just be gone like that. She was right here one minute and then suddenly nothing remained of her, including her granddaughter. I caused this. Mrs. Heathers died because of me. How could I have been so careless? Where was all the confidence, I’d felt of taking down Carson White? Why did people keep on getting hurt because of me?
My phone rung and upon glancing at it, a sigh leaving my lips. Why won’t Drake just give up on trying to contact me? If I had been mature enough from the start, people wouldn’t have gotten hurt. The worst part of this was that on one hand was the pain of losing Mrs. Heathers and on the other was the missing memories playing in a loop in my brain. They were punishing and yet they had given me more information than I bargained for. From the fire, to what exactly I was down, to Drake’s interaction with me down to the massacre. The most shocking was actually my pre-meditated meeting with Collins and the exact role he played in my life.
The door of my bedroom opened up as both Sasha and Miranda walked in.
“You guys look terrible,” I attempted to joke, my voice growing hoarse. My throat felt dry, hurting a bit. I hadn’t shed a single tear for the past three days.
“And you look like you walked out of a runaway,” Sasha joked back, sitting down as she took my hand, sandwiching it between her palms,” I know I’ve been selfish for the past three days, not coming to check up on you,”
“Hey, we were all in mourning,”
“What are we going to do about it?” Miranda spoke for the first time, her thought thickened with bitterness. I knew exactly what she felt. I lost my parents to Carson while I watched.
“Miranda,” I started.
“The spell wears tomorrow. I don’t know about you two but I’m not going to lock myself in a house while Carson White lives. That man murdered my entire family and so I’m sorry but I’m not going to sit here and waste my time doing nothing. Carson needs to be stopped,”
“We can’t just go out there, with no concrete plan. Everyone that has died so far, is all my fault. From my parents to Harry and his grandmother, Mrs. Heathers, her granddaughter and now your family. The only thing all these deaths have in common is their association with me. More than anyone, I want to take down Carson and those wolves,”
Miranda sat down, her voice now softened,” My parents didn’t die because of you,”
“I appreciate you trying to make me feel better but I know the only reason they came after you, its because they found out you saved me that day,”
“It has nothing to do with that. They didn’t see me,” she paused, swallowing down as she added in a trembling the wolves,” My parents refused to join the wolves,”
“Wait, what are you talking about?”
“Carson paid a visit to my parents and told them to join them in a fight against you but my parents wanted nothing to do with the wolves. He didn’t take their rejection well and so he killed them. My mum was lucky enough to conjure a portaling spell and push me right through in her last moments,”
“Wait, I thought the witches were already on his side,” I pointed out, a little surprised.
“All covens except one are loyal to Carson except for one. That is the coven my family and Harry’s grandmother belonged to,”
“The coven of the enchanted sisters,” I said in realization,” They are the ones who made me,”
“Wait, you remember? “Both Sasha and Miranda exclaimed at the same time.
“Everything unfortunately,” I sighed. One part of me was relieved to know everything but a certain of burden came with finally knowing everything. The reality of what I was, how I was made and what my fate was, had sent a certain sense of darkness taking over my heart.
“Wait, if you do then maybe this is a good time to tell you something. About an hour before the incident happened, I had been with her at the coffee shop. Her granddaughter had dropped in to help out after her piano lesson,” she voice grew so soft,” Adrian is alive,”
“I know,” I replied.
“You do?” Her lips parted in surprise.
“That fire that was supposed to kill us, was a indeed a cover but not the way you think it happened. The Enchnated Sisters, made us a weapon, Carson somehow found out and so they did some spell that stops you heart for some time, then made it look like both Adrian and I died in that fire. Adrian and I were separated with Adrian actually being moved out of town to be trained by one of the enchanted sisters while I was returned home. However in order to protect me, mum made dad believe it was an actual fire and that Adrian was really dead,”
“Wait, did you say us? Like you and Adrian?” Miranda questioned.
“In order to end the wolves, Adrian and I would have to reunite. Together we are like a nuclear bomb but apart we are mere explosives. The thing is, it was never just against the werewolves, “I paused, “ The dark witches too. The Enchanted sisters wanted to purify magic and after several unsuccessful interventions to stop the other covens from quitting dark magic, they finally had enough. Only those who quit on dark magic would be spared. The covens were obviously not too happy and so they joined hands with Carson, making him believe I was the weapon to end werewolves. I’m guessing they were the ones who figured out I was still alive and they weakened the spell, Harry’s grandmother put on me to be able to hide in plain sight,” I explained.
“Okay, I have to admit this is a lot to process but if Adrian is alive, how do we find him?”
“He is in town,” Sasha answered.
“What do you mean?” I questioned, looking at her.
“You know how we’ve been hearing about the assassin killing werewolves from each pack in town? It was Adrian and when he learnt you are back in town, he made Mrs. Heathers swear she wouldn’t tell you about him,” Sasha said.
Wait, Adrian was the assassin? It suddenly made so much sense. He was very much alive, trained and had the right motive for wanting to end the werewolves. A small teary smile found its way over my lips, a chuckle leaving my lips. At least I had one more family member still breathing out there.
“Okay, we need a concrete plan now. At least we know Adrian is out there,”
I picked up my phone, took a deep breath as I dialed Drake’s number.
“Fuck! You had me worried sick! Are you okay? I heard about Mrs. Heathers and I-“
“I remember,” I cut him off in a softened voice. Every moment we’d shared together was now printed in my mind, replaying over and over. Except Drake had no idea of the full story about me being his promised mate. I had no idea what exactly to feel about it. Was I supposed to feel pity for him that he got used by a bunch of witches without knowing it? Even if I were to choose him, my heart would always belong to another.
“Y-You do?” he questioned after a second of hesitation.
“Yes. I remember everything and its time for us to make the first attack. Tomorrow, the protection spell on the house will lift and we need you to meet us outside the town. It is too unsafe right now for us to remain in town. Also, I know a coven of witches that can help us,” I said. It was time to fight.
“And you trust this coven?” He questioned; his voice full of doubts.
“Yeah,” I looked over at Miranda,” I can trust them with my life,”
“Lets hope it won’t be a mistake. I’ll make sure the vampires and the were-dragons are getting ready to fight,” I could almost picture him wearing that condescending smirk.
“It won’t,” I said, cutting off the call.
“W-We are leaving town? There have been wolves prowling out side the house for three fucking days, not to mention cops. We can’t step outside,” Miranda pointed out.
“Then good thing we got you. You said you were learning magic on your own. Please tell me one of those spells was portaling magic,” I said.
“Um…that was my mother’s specialty,” she answered.
Well, fuck!
