CHAPTER 70
CHAPTER SEVENTY
My head hurt like hell and all the way back to Woodcave, I could barely keep my eyes open. Ugh! Why did Trina let me drink some more? I needed to take a break from all this and actually get serious.
“Back to town,” Trina’s voice tore the silence that bathed the car. I hadn’t seen or heard from Drake since we left him with Caleb and Darius yesterday night. Was I worried about him? Just a little bit.
I forced my eyes open, taking in the familiar town. Well, yesterday night might have been the last time I let myself drink for probably a good while. Being back here, meant getting ready for the reality and the decisions I’d made. I had chosen the path of vengeance and there was no turning back now.
A cop car with the town’s Sherriff on the wheel, passed us at super speed, honking like it was on some thief’s tail. It didn’t strike me as odd until we got close to Mrs. Heathers’ coffee shop to find a crowd of curious onlookers and the coffee shop seemed to have been under attack. The windows were shuttered and were those claw marks on the door?
“Stop the fucking car!” I shouted, my heart speeding up in terror, my thoughts instantly tuning to the probability of Mrs. Heathers being okay.
The moment she pulled to a halt, I literally rushed out of the car, pushing through the small crowd of murmuring onlookers. The cops were already setting up a perimeter and the Sheriff was already calling for backup.
“I need to get in!” I shouted, trying to push past the cop trying to keep the crowd at bay,” Mrs. Heathers! Mrs. Heathers! Dammit! Let me through,” I tried to put my weight against him but he was pretty adamant.
“This is a crime scene, ma’am. You can’t get in until the scene has been cleared,”
“You don’t get it. Mrs. Heathers is-“
“No one is allowed in the perimeter,” he glared at me hard in the face.
Fuck! What the hell was happening? I gripped my hair, frustration kicking in as I turned to the nearest person with the intention of asking what was going on but instead my gaze landed on Carson White approaching the crowd. Out of anger mixed with the fear of not know what was going in, I walked over to the mad.
“Oh, look who we got here,”
“What the hell did you do to Mrs. Heathers? Because if you are responsible for what happened here today, I’m going to kill you,” I seethed, my jaws drawn tight.
He merely smirked as he spoke,” I’m only getting started, sweetie. If I have to destroy every single person you care about for you to actually realize what I’m made of, then I will do it,”
“Can we just go?” Collins spoke, joining us before I could react to Carson.
I turned to him,” What did he do to Mrs. Heathers?”
He looked at me, his eyes void of any emotion as he mouthed,” If I were you, I’d be running out of town as fast as I came,”
I chuckled,” So this is it? This is how you act just because I broke you little heart? Its not my fault you get attached easily, Collins,” There was a flicker of hurt in his eyes but he was quick to cover it up,” Are you really that petty that you’d go after innocent people? Was your ego bruised that much that a woman would only want you for sex? I mean, you should have learned from your ex-wife,”
“Shut up before I snap your head into half,” he seethed back, glaring into my eyes.
“Go ahead. Do it and become the man you hate,” I paused, adding an edge on my tone,” Become you father,”
That was all it took for him to have his guard down, his hand going around my neck,” One more word and you are dead meat,”
“She is not worth it son. Come on,” Carson signaled him.
He glared at me one more time before letting go of my neck, both of them walking toward the crowd. With his back on me, I felt a certain sourness tearing up the back of my throat. I had definitely not meant anything I’d said to him but watching him act like my words didn’t hurt him, had made me feel worse. No, this was not about him. Something happened to Mrs. Heathers and they orchestrated it.
“By the way Nadia, you might want to start running for your life. I heard the cops got a tip about the fire you caused sixteen years ago,” Carson turned around, smirking.
“W-What are you talking about?”
“You know, the fire where you supposedly died in,” He then walked away, nodding at the cop and they were let in.
Wait, what did he mean about the fire I caused? I snapped out of my state of confusion when I heard the ambulance just as the cops took out three body bugs from the inside. My eyes widened, turning to run in the direction just before Trina caught me.
“What is going on?” My voice was trembling, eyes growing watery.
“I’m so sorry but-“Her voice was enough to make me know what happened.
“N-No! No! Nooooh!” I screamed so loud and consequently a series of things happened. First, grey clouds covered the sunny sky, three huge bolts of lightning striking across the town, followed by thunder that seemed to shake the town. I should have been scared dead out of my skin but I wasn’t. Instead, I felt something shift, and whatever had been holding me back, suddenly seem to leave, my body and soul feeling both free and energized.
“I’m going to kill every last wolf in this town. Mark my words, Carson White,” That was the last thing I said before I passed out from exhaustion.
An avalanche of all the memories I’d been missing hit me hard like a tornado and when I came to, I was lying on the bed in my house, shaken to the core.
“Thank God you are awake. Don’t you fucking scare me like that ever again,” Sasha shouted, pulling me into a tight hug.
Trina had been pacing to and from but she was quick to come over, her eyes holding the look of bewilderment,” I have seen some very bizarre things in movies but nothing as crazy as this. Care to tell me what the hell that was?”
“I-I don’t know,” I muttered helplessly. Nothing about it made any sense except that I felt new, like someone who had just been reborn. I remembered every single part of my life I thought I’d forgotten and never have I ever wanted to kill that bastard Carson and every single wolf in town more than I did now.
“That was a freakshow right there. Lighting, dark clouds, thunder and your eyes looking all black like Lilith walked out of hell. You were something else,” she paused, shaking her head slightly,” Something dark and extremely powerful and whatever it is, it was sucking the life out you. I mean, you were all scary for like two minutes, threatening the wolves in that scary voice and then boom! You fainted from exhaustion. You should have seen the look of puzzlement on Carson’s face. He looked like he could shit himself in fear. It was like he saw his own death right in front of his eyes,” She clasped my palms,” I never really gave a shit about the wolves from the get-go but now that they killed Mrs. Heathers and her granddaughter, I’m doing whatever it takes to take him down. Mrs. Heathers was the only human who was kind to us since day one,”
“He killed her granddaughter too?” I mumbled; my rage revamped.
“And the cops covered for him already. You, Sasha, me, vampires, Drake and were-dragons, are going to take all the werewolves down. We are going to paint the town red with their blood,” Trina said.
“I can’t lose any of you. Please Trina, take Sasha and go back to New York. You’ll both be safe there. Until I take down Carson, he won’t stop at just hurting you two,”
“The hell I’m leaving you alone,” Sasha countered venomously,” I grew up without a mother and the few times I’ve interacted with Mrs. Heathers, I felt the warmth of a mother. Now I’m back to being an orphan and I’d rather die killing that motherfucker!”It was the first time in a while I was seeing tears in Sasha’s eyes. Granted, she’d spent more time with Mrs. Heathers than I did.
“But-“
I was cut off when a portal opened right in front of me, a screaming Miranda coming crushing on the floor, her hands bloody. The portal immediately closed after that.
“Miranda?” I called, taken by surprised at her presence.
She looked at me, fear in her tears eyes before she glanced at her hands then looked back at me, mouthing incoherently,” No, no, no. I n-need to get back. I need to save them,”
“Slow down. What the hell is going on?”
“Its Carson,” she trembled,” He killed my family,”
