CHAPTER 72

CHAPTER SEVENTY-TWO
COLLINS POV
I barged into my home office that my Dad had turned into his own office. I barely had any control over my own pack and with his being a former Alpha, he still had power over the wolves, especially the older ones. With his legs patched on the table and a cigar between his lips.

“Tell me it’s a fucking lie. Please tell me this is some sick conspiracy theory the other packs are making just because we happen to be the strongest pack in town,” I started.

He merely blew out a cloud of smoke, remaining unbothered despite my uncultured entrance and my tone.

“She was a threat that I had to eliminate,”

“A threat you had to eliminate? She was fucking human, dad!” I snapped,” Since you got here, you’ve been doing nothing but turn everything over. The others packs have lost trust in me and they want to stay away from us because apparently we are out of control,”

He stood up, grabbing his coat, “Its not my fault they are a bunch of pussies,”

He walked out of the study with me hot on his tail. I was very much mad because now this was another mess added to my list that I needed to clean. For a fleeting moment, my thoughts wondered off to Nadia, wondering how exactly she was fleeting. Had she found out about the hit on Mrs. Heathers yet? Would she think I had something to with it? Why was I thinking about her again? Dammit!

“Where are you going?” I questioned.

“To make sure she is actually dead. Are you coming or not?” He questioned.

Left with no choice, I followed him into the car and soon I was racing out of our pack compound into the familiar streets.

“Why her? How was she a threat?”

“She was in cohorts with the assassin and the added advantage is that this is likely to shake up that Dela Fuente kid a little, enough to give us the upper hand. I know you don’t believe me because nothing out of the extraordinary has happened yet but Nadia is no good person. Do you really think someone who harbors that much rage against me would really be shaken by your little crush on her? She will kill me, you and very damn wolf in town. So, you better believe that your girlfriend is a weapon against us,” He walked out of the car, leaving me to navigate it for a good packing spot in the already filling street. Placing a hit on Mrs., Heathers, a popular figure in town, had been a wrong move that not only got the towns people talking but also the others packs refusing to associate with me. Alpha Hezron of White moon pack was the one who had called me.

I was stepping out of the car when her scent hit me first just as I heard her voice.

“What the hell did you do to Mrs. Heathers? Because if you are responsible for what happened here today, I’m going to kill you,” she was seething but at the same time she seemed to have no idea what was going on. Maybe it was the worst time but I was a bit relieved she was back. A night in Las Vegas with Drake? I had turned and tossed all night, trying to refute images of what could possibly happen between them. Speaking of drake, my eyes wondered around, expecting the him to pop out of nowhere with that conniving confidence of his but there seemed to be no trace of him.

“I’m only getting started, sweetie. If I have to destroy every single person you care about for you to actually realize what I’m made of, then I will do it,” Father spoke and that was my cue to cut in despite not being ready to face her yet.

“Can we just go?” I spoke, joining them.

“What did he do to Mrs. Heathers?” She turned her attention to me. Her eyes held rage mixed with fear and I wanted nothing more that to hold her, tell her we could do this but then again, I didn’t really mean anything to her, did I?

Instead, I mouthed,” If I were you, I’d be running out of town as fast as I came,”

She chuckled,” So this is it? This is how you act just because I broke your little heart? Its not my fault you get attached easily, Collins,” she paused,” Are you really that petty that you’d go after innocent people? Was your ego bruised that much that a woman would only want you for sex? I mean, you should have learned from your ex-wife,”

“Shut up before I snap your head into half,” I seethed. Maybe her words did hit a nerve.

“Go ahead. Do it and become the man you hate,” She dared me, adding an edge on her tone,” Become your father,”

That was what it took for me to snap, my hand going around her neck,” One more word and you are dead meat,”

How could she know how much I loathed my father? He had done nothing more than ruin my life for me. Now that he was here, he was leaving blood trail in his wake and unfortunately it was looking bad on me because I was the Alpha.

“She is not worth it son. Come on,” Dad signaled me and that was when I let her go, a shaky breath leaving my lips.

I walked away with him, my heart speeding up, the rush of what had just happened hitting me. I had her by the neck, my hands reluctant to squeeze even slight and that was when I knew even in my last breath, I would still not lay my hands on her. She could put a sword through my heart and I still wouldn’t think she was a devil under that pretty face. The need to protect her despite what had happened between us was overwhelming and unexplainable. Dad suddenly stopped, turning around.

“By the way Nadia, you might want to start running for your life. I heard the cops got a tip about the fire you caused sixteen years ago,” he smirked. Wait, what was he talking about?

“W-What are you talking about?” Nadia asked the same thing I was wondering.

“You know, the fire where you supposedly died in,” He then walked away, nodding at the cop who let us in.

A fire? No, it didn’t sound like something an eight-year-old would do and especially not Nadia. This had to be one of another dirty tricks up Dad’s sleeve. When was he going to stop all this madness? After my body dropped dead with mum and my sister? At this point he was pulling me towards death without stopping to think about what the pack really needed at a time like this.

Suddenly, a scream, louder than anything I’ve ever heard, tore through the air and consequently a series of things happened. First, grey clouds covered the sunny sky, three huge bolts of lightning striking across the town, followed by thunder that seemed to shake the town. I had never seen anything that scary and just like everyone present, we stood transfixed by Nadia. I felt my wolf shift, something that I should have never felt, suddenly pulsing hard through me. Her scent, was much stronger now, teasing my wolf only in a way a mate should. It didn’t make sense because I still hadn’t rejected Laila yet and now my wolf was here, trying to push past my defenses and claim her. What the hell was happening? I needed to get out of her before my wolf wins.

“I’m going to kill every last wolf in this town. Mark my words, Carson White,” Her voice tore through the air, sounding stranger, heavier and more threatening but then she fainted right after. The rage, the pain, the loathe in her; I’d felt it stronger than anything. It had burned through my veins, my wolf threatening to burst through my skin and protect her, his energy growing stronger, almost breaking through my willpower.

That’s when I ran out of that place. I ran like the wind itself was on my tail but I merely made away from the open streets, when my wolf grew too out of control, bone cracking as I gave in to the shift.

That had been three days ago and much to my chagrin, I hadn’t gotten a second to breath as I tried not to think what taken place three days ago outside the coffee shop. I was yet to confide to anyone and the more I tried to block my thoughts of her, the more intense they grew. I had lost track of everything around me, spending my time running in the forest or working out or in the venting room. I’d avoided everyone and well, since dad had been making me feel invisible despite being the Alpha, he had barely noticed me spinning out of control.

Take me Alpha
