CHAPTER 36
CHAPTER THIRTY SIX
COLLIN’S POV
One sentinel down.
One fucking Sentinel.
“Can you stop pacing Collins? You know that ain’t going to solve a thing, right?” Danny stated for probably the hundredth time.
“You don’t get it. This is the fourth member of my pack that I’m losing and I cannot take any more hits, Danny,”
“Trust me, I get that better than anyone because this pack is my family and you are like the brother I never had. Even though I’m still mad at you because you didn’t tell me Sasha came along too but I think now, let’s retract out steps. Before you got sidetracked by a certain Venezuelan beauty, we had figured out that Mrs. Heathers was certainly hiding something,”
“Right, “I stopped pacing,” So now I have to get focused and find an alternative way to figure out what she knows regarding this serial killer,”
“Yes and by the way, I did give the library a visit like you asked me. It turns out, ghost house is not an actual ghost house,” that got my attention.
“Go on,”
“Fifteen years ago, it was the Dela Fuente House,”
“Nadia Dela Fuente,” I whispered in recognition. That had to be fucking impossible. I mean, I had been a little disturbed as to the exact reason why Nadia had exactly come to Woodcave but now it all made sense.
She came back home.
“Yes,” He confirmed.
“But why haven’t I heard about the Dela Fuentes’s before?” What the fuck had I been missing? With this killer on the loose, more things were coming out.
“Well, we spent the better part of our lives in the city. This town must be hiding more secrets despite the innocence it exudes,” Danny frowned lightly.
“What else did you find out?”
“I brought home some materials and well, I could not sleep yesterday, so I did some more research regarding the Dela Fuentes. You’d not believe what I found out. Nadia’s late mother, was the direct descendant of Cassius and her father is also of Dela Fuente,”
“Is that supposed to mean something?” I questioned with a little confused frown.
“You are so ignorant. Cassius and Dela Fuente were among the original three hunters. That means Nadia is from a hunter family from both sides of her parents. Well, her father for sure was not a hunter but her mother was one of the best. Something however does not add up and I’m not sure if the records got it wrong or something,”
“What do you mean?”
“First it claims Nadia has a twin brother but they also say, the house caught fire one time and Nadia supposedly died in that fire alongside her twin brother. The house was rebuilt of course but then her parents were attacked by a group of wolves and killed. That was why its called the ghost house,”
“But that doesn’t make any sense,” I pointed out. If she was dead then how was she fucking alive then? If she had been a vampire, I would have smelt that right away but she reeked of mortality.
“I know. Do you think maybe she is an imposter?” he questioned and for a second, that thought crossed my mind.
“I’m going to find out right now,” I stormed out of Danny’s place, heading straight into my room. I pushed open the door and my gaze fell on Laila. She was clearly the last person I needed to see right now.
“What are the fuck are you doing here Laila? “I spat.
When she could barely forma reply, Nadia spoke,” Well, Laila and I were having some girl time. She needed some advice on how to back off from things that were no longer hers. Right Laila?”
Laila scoffed,” See you around Collins,”
She walked out, banging the door behind her ever so lightly.
I inched closer toward Nadia, “Laila tends to be a trouble maker. I hope she wasn’t much of a bother to you,”
“I know how to handle her,” a sigh left her lips, “Look Collins, You and I know nothing about each other than how our bodies feel like against each other. Solve whatever it is that you have with her because I sure as hell do not want to be dragged into it,”
“Nothing is there between us, okay? Yes, I was once in love with her but she cheated on me with someone I trusted,” That was a mere fact. Laila and I were never ever going to be anything. My wolf was as disgusted and heartbroken by her as much I.
“Well, she sure doesn’t share the same opinions and women like her, are lethal. She’d stop at nothing to get you back and I already have enough baggage dealing with your kind and my own friend becoming like you. So the last thing I need is to have a target on my back from your ex-wife,”
I let out a sigh,” Laila is nothing to me and enough about that,” I study her eyes, wondering how the hell they could be so breathtaking,” Is there something you want to tell me Nadia?”
“Something like what?” she questioned, frowning lightly but then she sighed,” Well, I didn’t think it was something serious because honestly it sounds ridiculous,”
“Ridiculous? You are an imposter,”
“What?” the frowned returned.
“Please tell me its all a lie, Nadia.” I had no why my voice sounded that soft but I didn’t want to start doubting her.
“Look, for a second there, I thought you were referring to the drake-mate issue but clearly you weren’t,”
“Drake-mate issue?” I frowned visibly.
“Yeah, Mrs. Heathers was telling me I’m some promised mate to the original hybrid and that is why he is here in Woodcave. What did you call me an imposter, though?”
Mate?
Mrs. Heathers and I were going to have a really long talk.
